We steken er allemaal veel tijd in om wekelijks tot een mooie lijst te komen

Is dan weer geen reden om via allerlei sluiproutes bepaalde nummers in een lijst te zetten die niet eens een single zijn geweest of onder het motto te mooi om m niet mee te nemen.

Uiteraard steekt iedereen er veel tijd in.
Sommige releases die op discogs staan staan niet op Rym en vice versa..dus niet eensluidend..volgens wiki was dit n single dus daar ga ik op af

Tipparade: week 11 van 1985.

1. Eric Clapton - Forever Man
De slowhand ten voeten uit. Weliswaar met een wat gelikt jaren '80-sausje door de synths maar zijn bluesy zang en gitaar zijn hier in optima forma. Ook de percussie hier is geweldig.
Cijfer: 8,5

20. Whitney Houston - All At Once
Een gladde en wat zoete ballad maar aan de uitvoering is niets op af te dingen. Dan toch een voldoende.
Cijfer: 6,5

23. Koos Alberts - Ik Verlang Zo Naar Jou
Van zijn manier van zingen hou ik absoluut niet maar anderzijds komt het enigszins geloofwaardig over al is het refrein erg clichématig.
Cijfer: 3,5

25. Opus - Live Is Life
Natuurlijk erg fout door de lullige tekst en de zang en uitspraak zijn ook niet bepaald om naar huis te schrijven. Maar een fuifnummer is het wel.

26. Flash and The Pan - Midnight Man
Prima popsong uit Australië met meezingbaar refrein maar ook met opgebouwde spanning. De percussie is tevens uniek.
Cijfer: 8

27. Nico Haak - Uw Laatste Jas, Meneer
Op zich een aardig en grappig nummer met een vlot ritme maar ook een erg tijdgebonden productie al klinken de synths wel goed.
Cijfer: 6

28. Nik Kershaw - Wide Boy
Wat minder aanstekelijk of memorabel dan zijn vorige hits maar nog wel degelijke pop hoewel ook hier de productie tijdsgebonden is.
Cijfer: 6,5

29. Eddy and The Soulband - Theme From Shaft - Special U.K. Mix
Is het deze versie? In ieder geval inspiratieloos en compleet overbodig, het is een verminking van deze klassieker.
Cijfer: 3

30. China Crisis - Black Man Ray
Geen baanbrekende band maar ze brachten wel goede popsongs in de tijdgeest zonder gedateerd te zijn. Een pakkend en radiovriendelijk nummer, had zeker een hitnotering verdiend.

Op 24 komt The Power Station binnen, een opvallende samenwerking tussen Robert Palmer, twee leden van Duran Duran en Nile Rogers. Meest op vallend is wel dat het een fantastische single is, met een felheid en dansbaarheid die ongekend is.

Op 31 China Crisis, altijd goed. Black Man Ray gaat over een bekende fotograaf en kunstenaar van begin twintigste eeuw. De song swingt niet zo heftig als eerdere singles, maar het voelt toch wel alsof de zanger iets belangrijks kwijt wil.

Op 32 ook bij mij The Nits met hun trilinguale titel Adieu sweet Bahnhof (misschien leuk idee voor een MuMe-spel, meerdere talen in één titel). Klinkt prettig melancholiek, maar voor mij niet echt een plaat die me omver blaast.

Op 34 een stevige anthem van de altijd wat boos-protesterende Alarm, Absolute reality.

En op 35 Phil Collins die erin slaagt na het nogal lelijke Sussudio een opvolger te produceren die nog een stuk erger is; de coupletten gaan nog net maar het refrein is onverteerbaar. Toch weer mijn top 40 gehaald, zo veel credibility had de man al opgebouwd.

Ik had nog nooit gehoord dat Nile Rodgers er iets mee te maken had, dus dat heb ik eens opgezocht op Wikipedia. Lijkt erop dat ie er inderdaad vrij weinig mee te maken heeft. Wel was de drummer van The Power Station ook drummer bij Chic, en werd alles geproduceerd door Bernard Edwards, de andere helft van Chic.

Nou, vooruit:

'In March 1985, the band issued the album The Power Station, produced by Bernard Edwards with some informal assistance from Nile Rodgers.'

Hij heeft zich er toch een beetje mee bemoeid.

Tja, eens in de zoveel tijd gaat het mis met uit mijn hoofd wat wetenswaardigheden strooien. Gelukkig dat Arrie altijd weer oplet .

Killing Joke houdt nog stand op de nummer 1 positie, maar de concurrentie nadert inmiddels wel met rasse schreden.

The Dream Academy en Foreigner komen deze week binnenstormen op nummer 6 en 7, China Crisis en The Colour Field complementeren de overige nieuwkomers, The Colour Field zat er al een aantal maal dichtbij om de weeklijst binnen te komen, deze week is het dan eindelijk raak maar of het ook een langdurig verblijf gaat worden?

Eric Clapton en The Nits gaan als een speer in hun 2e week en lijkt David Bowie toch wel aan zijn laatste week bezig te zijn.

Toto staat er al evenlang in als Bowie, die zag ik niet direct aankomen. Hulde voor m'n favoriete band

Een unicum, de bovenste twee plaatsten voor The Smiths. Maar dat komt dus doordat beide singles in andere landen uitgebracht werden. En ze behoren beiden tot mijn fave Smiths-singles.
Volgende week verschijnt in de UK trouwens alweer de nieuwe single, Shakespeare's Sister, maar die zal waarschijnlijk minder hoge ogen gaan gooien

Verder acht nieuwe songs. Zeven daarvan zijn al aangedragen door de anderen. Ik voeg daar alleen de zeer aangename nieuwe single van Everything But the Girl aan toe. Mijn favoriet van ze.Een prachtig lente-liedje!

bij luigifort vliegt die plaat in zijn Top 50 van 11 een week later in 1 keer er uit en dan gaat t wel hard met de punten.

Helemaal eens. Ik vind het al 30 jaar een verschrikkelijk nummer. Ook afgezet tegen het solo-oeuvre van Collins. Echt dramatisch.
Buitengewoon treurig genoeg, werd het een hele grote hit. En als gevolg daarvan heeft Collins er later vele varianten van op ons afgevuurd. Dit is dus de alfa hit, de bron van alle kwaad!

Derhalve had ik overigens al besloten er absoluut geen ruimte in mijn lijst voor te maken.

Hmmm ...... je hebt blijkbaar mijn lijst van vorige week niet goed bekeken, foei want daar komt dit nummer al binnen op nummer 36.

Ik zie het nu. Dan had ik hem vorige week al mee kunnen nemen

Twee opvallende binnenkomers deze week. Op 10 komt de Duitse zanger Purple Schulz binnen. De single komt in Duitsland begin november 1984 uit en is daar een succes. Maar liefst 23 weken staat deze single in de Duitse single lijsten. Of te wel media maart 1985 staat de single er nog gewoon in. Zo rond deze tijd krijgt de single wel wat Airplay op de radio (ik gok via Frits Spits) maar een hit is het niet geworden. Eeuwig zonde want het is een erg sterke single. Ik gok zo maar dat Bolland & Bolland via deze single ook wel wat ideeen kregen wat betreft de single die later dit jaar zal verschijnen van Falco (en dan heb ik het over Jeanny).

De andere single is het het volledig geflopte Koteja (Oh Bolila) van The Police drummer Steward Copeland. Een combi tussen reggae, worldmusic en westerse klanken.

Goede nieuwe muziek voldoende, nu nog alleen de juiste volgorde...

Harold, Frankie en Sade zijn natuurlijk al helemaal bekend van die tijd. Maar ik verwelkom ook met grote waardering de nieuwe single van The Pogues. Hun eerste hit die in Engeland de nationale lijst zou halen. En verder is de lijst prachtig opgepoetst met nieuw werk van de Blow Monkeys. De Dijk blijft één van mijn meest favoriete Nederlandstalige bands.

We houden het kort dit keer: HSIN staat voor de 2e week bovenaan met hun prachtige anthem toch wel, een nummer waarvan ze zelf dachten dat het een wereldwijde nummer 1 hit zou worden. Helaas volgens mij ergens blijven steken rond de top 20 uit mijn hoofd, oa ook door slechte promotie. Verder weinig veranderingen behalve dan dat Headmaster Ritual opklimt naar boven.

De hoogste nieuwe is van Tears For Fears
Een prachtig zomers en open nummer van een van mijn lievelingsbands, verveelt nooit.
Kings & Queens vind ik ook een prachtnummer, lekker groovy en een waardige opvolger van Love Like Blood. Night Time is trouwens een heerlijk album.
EBTG komt ook binnen met een vrolijk en frivool gitaarnummer..genieten!
Paisleyband The Long Ryders komt ook snel weer binnen met een mooie single.

Wat mezelf betreft: Na Ataque De Caspa weer 3 Spaanse singles, alle 3 erg mooi moet ik zeggen. Ik ben recentelijk de Spaanse muziekscene erg gaan waarderen.
Verder nog een single van Marc Riley (The Fall) met The Creepers, typisch een donker wat arty nummer.
Pseudo Echo komt uit Australie en dit nummer lijkt wel erg op Ultravox, hopelijk kunnen jullie het ook waarderen!
Als laatste een mooie Prince-cover van Cyndi Lauper.

Zeker geen half werk deze week en dat geldt met name voor wat mij betreft de beste single van Frankie Goes To Hollywood met Welcome To The Pleasuredome die op nummer 5 binnen komt knallen en alweer een geweldige productie van Trevor Horn is.
Deze singleversie vind ik ijzersterk, het nummer op het gelijknamige album vind ik zelf net iets teveel van het goede.

Dat er in Nederland ook prachtige muziek wordt gemaakt bewijst The Dutch met het zeer fraaie Another Sunny Day, de grote doorbraak is er echter nooit gekomen en daar leent de muziek zich misschien ook niet helemaal voor, maar de echte liefhebber weet wel beter!

Na deze single komt later dit jaar nog het geweldige America dat zijn weg ongetwijfeld ook gaat vinden in deze lijst en zodoende blijft The Dutch voor altijd in mijn muzikale hart en dan denken we natuurlijk ook zeker aan het muzikale pareltje This Is Welfare

De hele top 4 zit vast, wat vooral voor Breakfast wel een prestatie is (al 11 weken in de lijst).

Het rijtje binnenkomers deze week opent met een regelrechte sensatie. Ten eerste: op 7 binnen komt maar eens in de zoveel jaar voor. Vaak gebeurt zoiets als er een single uitkomt die ik al kende (als albumtrack). Dat is hier ook het geval. The unforgettable fire (want daar heb ik het over) had al een chartrun in de Verrukkelijke 15 op zijn naam staan, terwijl het toen nog geen single was; maar zo kende ik hem wel. Misschien hadden we het album toen ook al in huis. Zodra de track op single uitkwam, knalde hij bij mij op 7 binnen. Waar die volgende week zou staan, laat zich ook raden...
Ten tweede is The unforgettable fire een van de beste singles aller tijden (wat mij betreft), en laat ik het maar meteen weggeven: als hij mijn top 20 verlaat, is het de nummer 1 aller tijden volgens mijn top 20 (en ook volgens mijn top 40). Wat ik er zo bijzonder aan vind: elke seconde is geweldig, elk moment slaat de song weer een nieuw pad in, het heeft een heel ongewone structuur; het is ook geweldig geproduceerd (door Brian Eno natuurlijk) en heeft schitterende vioolpartijen (zonder dat de song erin verzuipt).
In de NL top 40 wordt het een kleine top 10-hit, maar ik vind het al ongelofelijk dat zoiets moois überhaupt een succes wordt.

Op 23 komt Frankie goes to Hollywood binnen met het titelnummer van hun fameuze debuut-dubbelalbum; op de plaat duurt het bijna een plaatkant, hier is het van normale singlelengte. Het is erg stuwend en meeslepend geproduceerd, gebaseerd op de legende van Xanadu. Ik vind deze ook beter dan de eerste twee singles.

Wat een verschil tussen de vijf binnenkomers. Op 27 komt USA for Africa binnen met We are the world, een van de meest commerciële songs ooit opgenomen met een artiestengroep als nooit eerder vertoond. Het idee is duidelijk geleend van Band Aid (Do they know it's Christmas?), maar wordt hier even op zijn Amerikaans uitgeserveerd, dus veel massale zang en veel herhaling van het refrein. Lionel Richie en Michael Jackson zijn de componisten (zo uit mijn hoofd gezegd...) en dat is wel te horen. Op eerste gehoor een prima goede-doelsingle, maar vaker horen is niet aan te raden.

Op 30 Nik Kershaw met Wide boy, minder bekend, maar nog steeds met zijn typische stem en sound, en eigenlijk niets mis mee. Hoogstens spreekt het net wat minder aan.

En op 36... Anny Schilder met Love is... Ze had met kerst al een eerste hit met Het Goede Doel (Eeuwige Kerst), maar dit is haar eerste echte solohit sinds ze door BZN was ingeruild voor de veel jongere Carola. Het begint al met een kinderkoor (met erbarmelijke Engelse uitspraak), maar het refrein is toch best aardig. Toch ben ik wel verbaasd dat ik hem destijds in mijn top 40 zette, want erg veel stelt het niet voor.

Ik heb het niet meegemaakt maar ik dacht altijd dat The Unforgettable Fire best een grote hit was geworden, maar tegenwoordig gewoon heel weinig wordt gedraaid. Het heeft de top 10 gehaald, toch?

Het is wel zonde dat je andere singles uit die tijd (Pride, Sunday Bloody Sunday) nog regelmatig op de radio hoort maar dat The Unforgettable Fire voor het grote publiek in de vergetelheid is geraakt. Misschien toch te 'moeilijk'?

Nog steeds wel hoor..maar ik luister veel minder naar U2 dan vroeger..lees: nauwelijks. En dan eerder AB of Zooropa

Tja, nu heb ik gewoon een tikfout gemaakt, ik wilde een kleine top 10 hit schrijven ( het is ook onlogisch om te schrijven dat het in de top 40 een kleine top 40 hit werd), maar goed, de fout is gemaakt en ik heb hem ook weer hersteld.
