Met 9 lijstjes - voor poeha heb ik het laatst gepostte lijstje gewoon meegeteld voor deze week - hebben we twee weken achter elkaar dezelfde deelnemers. Toch zijn er flink wat verschuivingen. Vooral opvalt dat T'pau verdubbelt, van 3 naar 6 lijstjes en daarmee meteen de nummer 1 pakt. Ook Inxs doet het goed en stijgt naar 3. De rest van de oude top 10 zakt daardoor allemaal 1 of 2 plaatsen.

"Ik wil wel een nieuwe kerstsong schrijven maar dan iets minder truttig" zal Chris Rea hebben gedacht en hij voegde de daad bij het woord. Het nadeel heeft alles te maken met beklijven. Het idee zal worden omarmd maar truttigheid is juist iets dat mensen rond Kerst willen en dus zit Rea voor de rest van zijn leven met Driving Home for Christmas opgescheept.

Je kunt je ook geheel niets aan trekken van deze dagen en gewoon een ouderwetse ronkende cover presenteren. Het werk van The Kinks is haast niet te verbeteren door een andere band dan The Kinks. Maar ere wie ere toekomt, de Stranglers hebben een versie gemaakt van All day and all of the Night waarbij je je vingers kunt aflikken.

een rustig weekje, slechts 2 binnenkomers, aan de top gebeurt weinig behalve dan dat T'pau aan de deur van de top 5 klopt. Hoogste binnenkomer zijn Bill & Jennifer, daaronder nog de Nederlandse groep Charlee. Ik weet weinig van de groep, de single herken ik wel meteen, typisch 80s pop/dance.

Op 19 komt Bruce Springsteen binnen met Tunnel of love. Hij ging met zijn tijd mee, want het intro van deze song deed mij eerder aan een Madonna-song denken. Gelukkig neemt het lied een wending en wordt het alsnog een gevoelig en toch swingend Bruce-nummer, met teksten die zijn relationele problemen weergaven.

Op 31 de grote commerciële knaller The time of my life van gelegenheidsduo Bill Medley (van The Righteous Brothers) en Jennifer Warnes (van o.a. Leonard Cohen-covers). Het was de titelsong van de film Dirty dancing, tegelijk een eigentijdse film en een ouderwets goed duet met geweldige vocalen. Niet vreemd dat het weken, zelfs maandenlang op 1 bleef staan.

Op 33 Anita Meyer van wie ik vanaf de eerste single (The alternative way) een fan was; alleen werd het repertoire dat ze zong steeds minder interessant. Maar met The exodus song (oorspronkelijk uit 1960) kan ze haar grote vocale kwaliteiten helemaal kwijt, compleet met vol orkest. Als ik mijn Alle Hits-overzicht check, is dit helaas de laatste notering voor Anita...

Op 34 Marillion met weer een intens gezongen ballad, Warm wet circles.

Op 35 Labi Siffre op de vrolijke toer, maar de teksten zijn eerder zwartgallig, en misschien had hij daar (destijds) ook wel alle reden toe.

17. Madonna - The Look Of Love
Derde matige single van Madonna op rij, werd een hit omdat het van Madonna is maar het fletse nummer blijft geen moment hangen, begrijpelijk tussen de plooien gevallen.
Cijfer: 4,5

24. Alison Moyet - Love Letters
Al vaak gecoverd (van wie is het origineel?) maar deze versie is met de nodige gevoel en passie gebracht.
Cijfer: 8

25. Kinderen voor Kinderen - Moeders wil is wet
Zal ik natuurlijk nooit uit mijzelf draaien maar al de kinderen dit leuk vinden is het voor mij ook goed.
Cijfer: 5

26. Charlee - You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else
Voor dit soort plastic wegwerphits heb ik veel minder genade. Originaliteit of eigenheid is ver te zoeken, de blazers zijn nep en de zang is ook zwak dat het na een tijd irriteert.

27. De Havenzangers - Oh Mona
Hetzelfde geldt voor dit soort flauwe covers die niets toevoegen. Weg daarmee!

28. Bill Medley, Jennifer Warnes - (I've Had) The Time Of My Life
Gelukkig niet zo mierzoet als de meeste duetten dit decennium al zal ik het nooit tot mijn favoriete songs rekenen. De vocalen en samenzang vind ik wel OK.

29. Guesch Patti - Etienne
Met dit nummer heb ik nooit enige affectie gehad hoewel ik Franse songs doorgaans wel kan smaken. Ik vind het vooral ritmisch te eentonig en die harde gitaren vind ik niet bij haar stem passen.

30. Sinéad O'Connor - Troy
Dit vind dan wel weer een topper hoewel ik enige tijd nodig had om het te waarderen. Maar die passie en emotie - eerst ingetogen om dan uit te barsten - zijn zelden gehoord in het hitjaar 1987.

Wow, Modern Talking 0.5 op nummer 1 binnen

We hebben weer 9 lijstjes binnen, dezelfde 9 als vorige week. Tijd voor de uitslag.

T'pau blijft onbedreigd op 1, het aantal punten is flink hoger dan vorige week. Dat kan van de nummer 3 niet gezegd worden, dat is gedaald. Sandra is vrijwel gelijk gebleven dus veel gevaar lijkt daar ook niet in te schuilen.
Maar dan, op 4 nieuw Whitney Houston met de 3e single van haar album Whitney, na een dansnummer en een ballad nu weer een uptempo nummer. Vorige week via 2 lijstjes op plaats 26, maar dat telt niet bij een top 20, nu in 4 lijstjes en dus boem naar 4.
Overigens zegt zo'n hoge positie niet alles, een poosje geleden kwam Troy hoog binnen en ondanks hoge verwachtingen heeft die niks anders gedaan dan zakken.
De andere binnenkomer van deze week is U2 met een nummer van The Joshua Tree dat alleen in Noord-Amerika op single lijkt te zijn verschene. Gaan nog andere mensen deze opnemen of blijft het bij de 2 lijstjes waar die nu in staat? Daarvan zal veel afhangen, hoe hoog die kan komen...

In God's country gaat in januari ook in mijn top 40 binnenkomen, wat des te opmerkelijker is omdat ik die destijds dus van de radio moet hebben opgepikt. Mogelijk van de Verrukkelijke 15. Ik had wel snel door dat het geen single was, maar heb het toch een 'normale' chartrun gegeven.

Nog even mijn inhaallijst van week 49. En nu kon ik het niet meer tegenhouden, in dit voor mij een van de beste muzikale jaren stonden er nog teveel nummers te trappelen om binnen te mogen komen. En diversen hadden dat met een top 30 waarschijnlijk niet gehaald. Kon ik niet over mijn hart verdragen. Och gossie

Hoogtepuntje was voor mij toen toch wel de band Blue Zone met On Fire (met Lisa Stansfield als zangeres). In die tijd daarna niets meer van de band vernomen. Tegenwoordig kun je natuurlijk veel info achterhalen, maar toentertijd was dat erg lastig, in ieder geval voor mijn persoontje. Ook fraai om die clip weer eens te zien.

Ben ook van plan wat eerder in de week mijn weeklijst te plannen, aangezien ik dit eigenlijk wel het fijnste topic op deze site vind en het was een ware crime om haast het hele jaar dik achter de feiten aan te lopen. Maar goed belofte maakt schuld, dus ik ga m'n best ervoor doen

Het is niet de allereerste single van Grapes of Wrath maar wel één van de eersten. En mooi gedaan, allemaal nog heel onschuldig, puur en niet eens van al te veel herrie.

En drie singles van The Smiths tegelijk in één lijst gaat je ook niet in de koude kleren zitten "Stop me" heeft z'n carriere gehad en ik denk eigenlijk dat de laatste hem beter gaat opvolgen dan "I Started Something"

Dan kijk ik op Netflix de Vietnam documentaire en er moet mij van het hart, dat ik dan automatisch weer meer ga voelen voor nummers van (ex-) Pink Floyd, die juist toevallig nu allebei in mijn lijst staan. Het lot moet het zo hebben beslist.

Aangezien ik morgenavond bij EUT in Ekko ben nu alvast mijn week 50 van 1987.
T'pau klopt nadrukkelijk aan de deur bij Sandra maar ze houdt nog stand. Daaronder schuift het allemaal een beetje, weinig spannende dingen of het moet binnenkomer van vorige weer Charlee zijn die meer dan 10 plaatsen stijgen.
Wel 2 hoge binnenkomers zo vlak voor het eind van het jaar...
op 8 een tango muziekje, maar niet zomaar, wel met heftige gitaren (vond ik toen zéker) en stoer uitziende zangeres. Lisa Dalbello uit Canada met haar enige hit in Nederland
op 16 dan Pet Shop Boys, tot dit nummer had ik een lastige relatie met de heren, vond minstens evenveel van ze niet leuk als wel.Zo ontbreken in mij hitdossier oa. It's a Sin en Rent maar stond Suburbia wel top 5. Deze was wel meteen raak en vanaf hier ging het ook beter. Ik had destijds nog geen idee dat het een cover was maar dat maakt ook niet uit.

leuk feitje nog, destijds (eind 87/begin 88) had het wasmiddel Persil een actie dat je tegen opsturen van een x aantal zegels die je uit de verpakking knipte een 7" single kreeg opgestuurd; je mocht zelf weten welke mits die in de top 40 stond. Ik heb er een twee besteld (debbie gibson - shake your love, ik wilde ook five star - somewhere somebody maar die kwam niet in de top 40 dus toen werd het wat anders, taylor dayne misschien?), m'n broer ook waaronder deze en om een of andere reden werd deze 2x opgestuurd... gelukje voor mij
