Wel een erg lekker nummer deze, mooie tip.

Ik weet niet of ik die destijds wel heb gehoord eigenlijk. Maar als ik 'm nu beluister vind ik die wel veel minder dan Where is Your Love.

Ja, die is heel anders. Ik kende Where is Your Love dan weer niet, maar die vind ik ook erg goed.

Where Is Your Love heeft nog tipparade gehaald
Maar in de UK heeft blijkbaar Wasted Country (even) onderin de charts gebivakeerd en de ander niet.

Ja ja, voortschrijdende inzichten! Lijsten maken blijft een boeiende aangelegenheid! Weliswaar met redelijk blijvende globale inzichten maar toch ook altijd met nieuwe ontdekkingen en ontwikkelingen!

Ik moet zeggen dat ik de stemmige nieuwe wintersingle van Enya niet zag aankomen. Ja, wel in fysieke zin maar niet met het idee dat het zelfs zou gaan leiden tot een notering. Maar wat niet is, kan altijd nog komen en de single ademt een prachtige heimwee naar barre winterse omstandigheden in een onherbergzaam gebied met hooguit wat lichtjes in de verte en dan 100 jaar geleden.

Vraag me er van de zomer niet naar, maar rond december mag het van mij worden opgezet.

En dan uit de 'krochten' van het McCartney archief: een single van zijn CHOBA B CCCP album, dat eigenlijk en alleen memorabel is omdat het in 1988 uitsluitend in Rusland werd uitgebracht (wereldwijd pas in 1991). Een album vol covers, wat McCartney er mee wilde is mij niet bekend, maar de hele goede opletters in onze werkzaamheden wisten te noteren dat Bring it on home to me op single was uitgebracht. Dus bij deze!

Neeeeee ik bedoelde meer de media, weet nog dat I don't want your love best veel airplay en aandacht kreeg maar dat DD als gepasseerd werd bekeken

En hier is dan de laatste gezamenlijke weeklijst van 1988, gedateerd op Tweede Kerstdag, en opnieuw op basis van 8 nieuwe inzendingen!

Al voor de vijfde week gaan de Pet Shop Boys aan de leiding, en ze blijven gelijk in puntenaantal, maar ze weten zelfs nog 1 deelnemer erbij te winnen (een zekere ranboy) waardoor ze nu bij 7 van de 8 genoteerd staan, een geweldige prestatie!

De hoogste nieuwe dendert op 5 binnen, de cover van Marc Almond van Gene Pitney's aloude Something's gotten hold of my heart; ik weet eigenlijk niet meer of Gene Pitney op de hitversie meezingt, of dat de duetversie pas wat later is opgenomen.

Op 14 de early house muziek van Kraze, met het toepasselijk getitelde The party. Dansen maar! Op 15 haalt Robin Beck eindelijk onze top 20, na 1 of 2 valse starts. Een aanstekelijke song, die oorspronkelijk voor een (coca cola) reclame geschreven is. En op 20 Kirsty MaColl, recentelijk vaak op de radio gehoord vanwege een kerstsingle met The Pogues, maar nu met een cover van The Smiths.

Een tip van de week is er deze week niet bij, want is er wel een volgende week?

Een gladde standaardballad die mij nauwelijks kan boeien, de niet onaardige maar zoete vocalen ten spijt.
Cijfer: 4,5

24. Madeline Bell - Standing By
Deze ballad past wel op eindejaar maar heeft ook een hoog BZN-gehalte. Zingen kan ze wel maar haar soul komt mij geforceerd over.

25. Aerosmith - Rag Doll
Geen grote fan van Aerosmith maar dit is een stevige en degelijke rocker, gelukkig niet zo glad als de meeste Amerikaanse rock dat jaar.

26. Edelweiss - Bring Me Edelweiss
Dit nummer bewijst dat camp ook leuk kan zijn al hebben ze van Abba te danken, dit is toch wel iets aparts. Geinige videoclip ook.

Liever camp dan dit soort kleurloze covers die niets toevoegen aan de muziekwereld (kan deze man overigens enkel covers brengen?)

28. Duran Duran - All She Wants Is
Een band na enkele succesvolle jaren duidelijk de weg kwijt is, het lijkt op iets willen maar niet kunnen. Het werd ondanks hun hitstatus geen hit.

29. Eros Ramazzotti - Musica è
Deze zanger wil ik slechts met mate horen maar dit is wel een goed opgebouwde en emotionele ballad al is de pathos en bombast niet ver weg.

Een song dat geen enkel moment boeit of bijblijft al is getracht er iets van te maken. De productie is daar ook debet aan.

Dit nummer staat als b-kant of dubbele a-kant zo je wil op de single van Working My Way Back to You die flink in mijn lijst heeft gescoord.

1988 is JUIST een denderend hitjaar. Wellicht het beste ooit, heerlijk met al die "kille" synths.

Ik vind het ook een geweldig jaar, beste van de 80s samen met 85. Wie van die 2 wint weet ik zo niet.

Kille synths? Dat past wat mij betreft eerder bij 79-82.

Ik doelde daarmee meer op de woorden die Luc hier vaak gebruikt. Ging me eigenlijk meer om het woord synths dan dat ze kil zijn, vandaar ook de aanhalingstekens.

Ow zoals in het rijtje productie, drumcomputer, glad en geforceerd

Mijn top 20 van 1988 heb ik al bij elkaar gerekend, 14 nummer 1 platen zitten daarbij. Verder 1 in mn top 5 waar ik van opkeek dat ie zo hoog is geeindigd (leuke plaat maar lucky met lang verblijf)
153 nummers hebben zich laten charten dus deze keer heeft de beste top 100 meer effect dan vorig jaar, ik heb het aantal new entries per week opgevoerd.

Mooie lijst wel, sommige hadden wel hoger kunnen staan als ik nieuwe lijsten had gemaakt ipv lijsten van toen maar andere hebben daar juist veel voordeel van gehad En ik vind het sowieso mooi dat er een aantal lijsten van toen meedoen, zowel in 1988 oa van mij als ook in 1994 waar ik bij de nieuwe lijsten hoor. De verschillen met de eerder geplaatste lijst zijn (helaas) wel groot. In de eerste lijst komen de individuele smaken beter tot hun recht, in de lijst hierboven komt de gezamenlijke waardering meer naar voren. Mijn voorkeur gaat dan ook uit naar deze laatste lijst (al vind ik deze top 3 veel minder mooi dan die andere...). Oordeel zelf!

Ik heb lak aan die gezamenlijke waardering
Geef mij maar de uitkomst van die eerste lijst.

De top drie van de tweede lijst is dan wel weer beter.
