Hoogste nieuwe is de debuutsingle van Paul Gardiner, de bassist van Gary Numan's Tubeway Army. Het nummer is ook ingezongen en geproduceerd door Numan en eigenlijk beter dan zijn meeste recente singles, al heb ik de allerlaatste nog niet gehoord volgens mij.

I'm In Love van Evelyn King valt uit de lijst, maar de lovers rock/reggae cover van Jennifer Lara is stiekem veel leuker en komt ervoor in de plaats.

Het nummer van Marcia Hines kwam me bekend voor; waarschijnlijk een hit geweest. Leuke plaat wel. Verder weer eens een Church-single. De opvolgers van het fantastische Unguarded Moment komen daar niet bij in de buurt, maar deze is wel prettig. Azoto is disco, Grace Jones cover Bill Withers en Pigpag blijkt naast de bekende hit ook nog minimaal één ander nummer te hebben.

De hoesjes zijn wat groter en verkregen via Discogs.

Heel even dacht ik dat we helemaal geen nieuwe binnenkomers hadden. Maar uiteindelijk wist Anita Meyer de ban te breken door alsnog op de twintigste plek binnen te komen.

Er was voor iedereen heel erg veel zweet en bloed voor nodig, gelet ook op het aantal punten bij de onderste helft van de lijst, maar uiteindelijk zijn er altijd twintig nummers te vinden.

In echt een bizarre lijst aangaande punten.
Het begon er alvast mee dat de nummers 1 en 2 evenveel punten hadden.
Dan de nummers 3 en 4, vervolgens 9, 10 en 11. En op het rijtje helemaal extreem te maken hadden ook de tracks 12, 13, 14 en 15 evenveel punten. Een gelijke score is al redelijk zeldzaam maar deze uitslag is niet terug te vinden in onze eerdere archieven.

Nog even voor iedereen: wie als hoogste genoteerd staat wint de hoogste plek. Dus voor Love Action en Love song gold twee eerste plekken voor Love action en geen eerste plek voor Love song. Dan wint in dit geval the Human League.
De Simple Minds hebben wel een straight flush gehaald, wat op zich ook vrij uniek is: alle 13 users hebben Love song in hun lijst staan. Maar blijkbaar niet hoog genoeg.

Inmiddels beginnen Soft Cell en Duran Duran nu toch wel aan hun weg naar beneden.

De grootste winnaars zijn OMD en Genesis. Die plusten er heel wat bij. Beduidend meer dan de Rolling Stones en Jon & Vangelis, hoewel die het ook niet slecht doen. Het behalen van steeds meer punten gaat hier wat langzamer.
Jon & Vangelis brengen hier het origineel waar Donna Summer in 1982 een nummer één hit zou halen met State of Independence.
Niet alles is helaas even eerlijk.

Nu breng je het alsof Donna S een platte draak van een cover heeft gemaakt dat wil ik toch wel bestrijden

Het gaat over eerlijk.
In die zin had een notering voor het origineel eerlijk geweest.
Het is niet minder dan de cover van Donna S. En waar zit 'm dat dan in?

Was dit al een single in '81? Volgens mij eerder eind '83 ofzo.

In dit topic zit een groot aantal mensen die graag zo vroeg mogelijke releasedata zoekt ongeacht wanneer de wereld het leerde kennen Ik heb al flink wat hits van 82 en 83 voorbij zien komen.

Nee, dit was zeker nog geen single in 1981, ik heb het even kort opgezocht. De samenwerking met Melle Mel ontstond pas in 1983, de single pas (veel) later in dat jaar.

Tenzij er een onvoorstelbaar tegendeel wordt bewezen, lijkt mij dat deze single vanaf volgende week nog even de koelkast in gaat.

Het origineel is zeker wel minder te noemen dan de cover, al mag jij best vinden van niet

De versie van Donna Summer is echt zoveel beter en ze scoort er niet voor niets een wereldhit mee, al moet ik er wel bij zeggen dat ik commerciële oren heb.

Het origineel vind ik vrij tam en mat klinken en ook niet iedereen trekt de stem van Jon Anderson dus ja dan heb jij hier je antwoord musician

Dan zal ik van het weekend al wat hits uit 1984 er in zetten je kan ze maar vast gehad hebben

Ik schat zo maar in dat de nieuwe single van Depeche Mode, I just can't get enough, hier hele hoge ogen gaat gooien. Het ligt aantrekkelijk in het gehoor en heeft een hoog aaibaar gehalte: dat nummer gaat het in onze lijst wel redden.

Dat geldt vermoedelijk ook wel voor Prince. We komen in een fase dat zijn ontwikkeling tot volle bloei gaat komen, tot in sneltreinvaart de jaren '80 door. Ik denk ook gelijk de beste muzikale periode uit zijn leven.

Het Yellow Magic Orchestra levert weer een leuke single vol elektronica. Sterke melodie. Ik was helemaal vergeten dat het YMO eigenlijk in 1983 er al weer klaar mee was. Korte carriere geweest. Wel veel albums.

Slade heb ik ook jaren niet meer in mijn lijst gehad, dan toch in ieder geval niet meer sinds 1976. Dan is Lock up your daughters een ouderwets als Slade klinkende comeback. Is daar nog net zoveel ruimte voor als in 1973, is de vraag.

De Pretenders hebben een brand nieuw album, hun tweede, en dat zullen we weten ook in de komende maanden. Het begint alvast met Day after day.

En ten slotte het gelegenheidsduo Dave Stewart en Barbara Gaskin. Een vrolijke cover, aardig bewerkt en goed voor de hitlijsten. Ook hier hoeven we ons geen zorgen over te maken.

Jon and Vangelis staan bij mij voor de derde keer op nummer 1.
Je bedoelt kansrijk? Die stem trekt mij dus wel. Het origineel straalt voor mij een intieme, spirituele sfeer uit. De cover blinkt uit in toegankelijkheid en kracht. Maar belangrijker, bij mij speelt het moment van kennismaken hier een gigantische rol. Als je een nummer of versie eerder leert kennen, in dit geval het origineel, voelt die vaak als de “beste” ervaring — zelfs als er later een technisch beter geproduceerde versie verschijnt. In dat geval is die volgende versie toch grotendeels een nabootsing.

Je zou het enigszins kunnen vergelijken met de Iphone. De nieuwste versie is beter maar de allereerste versie maakte toch de sprong van niets naar een touchscreen-computer in je zak. Hoewel die trager was, minder gebruiksvriendelijk en met een matige camera heb je er toch al een bijzondere band mee opgebouwd voordat de volgende versie volgt. Vaak hoeft die volgende versie voor mij niet zo.

Daarom gun ik net als musician Jon and Vangelis een eerlijke notering en zal de versie van Donna Summer bij mij beduidend minder scoren. Maar…..

Eigenlijk heb ik op Musicmeter zelden discussie over smaak. Vaak denk ik: “op ieder potje past een dekseltje”. En soms verwonder ik mij er dan wel over dat op een bepaald potje wel heel veel dekseltjes passen maar dat maakt Musicmeter ook weer verrassend.

Als ik wel eens discussie heb dan gaat het over releasedata. Van elke single hou ik de releasedatum bij in Excel, dus dat heeft mijn bijzondere interesse.
Ja, deze was mij ook al opgevallen. Anders zou deze bij mij inmiddels ook een enorme hit scoren.

Het nummer bevat een opvallende baslijn die is overgenomen van het nummer "Cavern" van de band Liquid Liquid. Deze baslijn werd zonder toestemming gebruikt, wat leidde tot een rechtszaak in 1984 die gewonnen werd door Liquid Liquid. Ik heb geprobeerd de releasedatum van "Cavern" te achterhalen maar dat is lastig, dat zal ergens begin 1983 zijn geweest. Wat de "White lines" betreft lijken de tijdslijntjes wat duidelijker:

Omdat de opnamedatum niet zeker is kan de copyright datum nog een interessant gegeven zijn. Meestal is het aannemelijk dat de opname vlak vóór de copyrightdatum ligt. Daar is tijdens de rechtszaak gebruik van gemaakt en was ook een belangrijk gegeven waarom Sugar hill records de zaak verloor.

In week 30 van Marzipaintree stond op nummer 27 Grandmaster Flash-The adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the wheels of steel.
Die was ik op youtube aan het luisteren voor tips maar zoals gewoonlijk, ook al klik je 86x op NIET AUTOMATISCH de volgende video afspelen, gaat you "ïk doe wat IK wil"tube gewoon door en speelde White lines, die ik waarschijnlijk daardoor heb genoteerd als new entry.
Ik vermoed dat mijn compadre Martijn Jonkers het nummer dan weer bij mij heeft gezien als tip en tadaaa, deze week fraude. musician Zou u aub voor de afgelopen 3 weken White lines willen aanpassen naar The adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the wheels of steel?

Vanwege #Whitelinesgate slechts 1 new entry maar wel een geweldige Steve Winwood die ik bij musician al eerder zag.
Verder een opvallende snelle drop voor Tainted love (zie ook dat ik daar niet de enige bij ben) maar de overkill (ik hoor hem elke week wel zowat) maakt dat ik in tegenstelling tot Girls on film en Super freak hier niet te lang een chart run faciliteer.
