De top 3 ligt zeer dicht bij elkaar, maar ik beleefde net het meeste plezier aan Twenty Five Miles, dus die stijgt in de 18e week verdiend naar 1. Eén van mijn ontdekkingen van dit jaar toch wel. Ik heb het inmiddels ook genomineerd voor de MuMe-ladder.

Verder zijn er nieuwe plaatjes van Os Mutantes (de eerste single van hun derde album dat ik niet zo goed ken, maar dit is een heerlijk nummer), The Guess Who (moest ik een keer of 5 horen voordat ik er wat aan begon te vinden) en Evie Sands (een soort Dusty maar dan met meer power).

Veel mooie nieuwe hits, veelbelovend voor volgend jaar. Murray Head kruisigt Hem alvast voordat Hij was geboren. Enfin, misschien is Superstar het beste nummer van Jesus Christ Superstar en dan kun je natuurlijk niet op het juiste tijdstip van het jaar letten.

Jackie Lomax vind ik ook leuk. Jammer dat New Day niet beter werd gegund. Misschien had hij moeten beginnen met een nummer dat was geschreven door Paul McCartney. Zoals Badfinger dat deed. Come and get it had Sir Paul eigenlijk bedoeld voor Abbey Road maar het is daar nooit op terecht gekomen.

De symfo van Ekseption en The Nice (herbewerking van Tim Hardin) is natuurlijk ook van bijzondere klasse.

Edwin Starr mag de fanclub wel dankbaar zijn voor zoveel toewijding en gekoesterde waardering voor dit muzikale kleinood. Sinds van de zomer al, voor de goede orde.

Het is nota bene de enige nieuwe binnenkomer van deze weeek. Waar Earth & Fire een eerste nummer één notering weet binnen te halen. En dit is dan slechts het debuut. Ik denk dat we nog zeker 4 prachtige jaren met Earth & Fire gaan meemaken.

The Stooges - 1969 was niet alleen de B kant van de single I Wanna Be Your Dog, maar is ook als A kant uitgebracht met als B kant Real Cool Time.

7. Ekseption - Italian Concerto
Lijkt mij meer klassiek en jazz dan pop, vrij eigenzinnig met het gebruik van orgel, piano en blazers. Ambitieus maar niet te pompeus.

Vind ik nog één van de betere Nederlandstalige nummers dat jaar. Niet dat ik het geweldig vind (vocaal stelt het weinig voor) maar het heeft tenminste een zinnige tekst.

24. Joe Cocker - She Came In Through The Bathroom Window
Een eigenzinnige, bluesy verwerking van een Beatles-nummer, rauw en doorleefd met de typische Cocker-power.

26. Sandra + Andres - Reaching For The Moon

27. The Equals - Rub A Dub Dub
Een simpel nummer, zelfs een beetje knullig maar wel vermakelijk en goed ingezongen door Eddy Grant.

29. The Nice - Hang On To A Dream
De vroegere band van Keith Emerson met een symfonische, wat jazzy bewerking van een nummer van Tim Hardin. De zang is echter zwak en na verloop van tijd wordt het te pretentieus (typisch Emerson), ik verkies toch het soberder origineel.

Ouderwetse ska/reggae waar ik wel graag mag luisteren maar in dit geval is het mij te niemendallerig.

Dateert van 1959, werd in 1961 op single uitgebracht en kwam merkwaardig in 1969 in de top-40. Aangename jazz dat ik graag wil horen, bijzonder knap gebracht.

In mijn lijst zingen Sly & The Family Stone de jaren '60 vaarwel. En dat terwijl Townes Van Zandt nu al vier weken op 2 staat.

Verder vier nieuwe binnenkomers, waaronder de nieuwe Os Mutantes. Ik moest even wennen aan dit nummer, maar nu ben ook ik helemaal om.

Stone Free van Jimi Hendrix stamt al uit 1967, maar werd pas in december '69 op single uitgebracht.

Verder verdwijnt Wasn't Born To Follow na 15 weken uit de lijst, waarvan ie er 8 op 1 heeft gestaan. Zonder concurrentie mijn grootste hit van dit jaar, en ook de grootste ooit in de prille geschiedenis van mijn lijst.

Gemiddelde = 6,61

Heel wat geweldige songs, liefst 53 nummers kregen 9 of meer van mij. Opmerkelijk dat de voor mij onbekende nummers meestal tegenvielen terwijl de beste vaak ook de bekendste of meest succesvolle nummers zijn (nu is dat vaak het omgekeerde). Globaal waren de internationale hits prima, de Nederlandstalige daarentegen waren bedroevend slecht op enkele uitzonderingen na.

Het valt mij ook op dat de psychedelica die de jaren 1967 en in mindere mate 1968 domineerde is weggeëbd, in 1969 leek bluesrock de populairste stroming al begon de prog- en hardrock ook meer binnen te stromen (de voorbode van de jaren '70). Soul deed het nog steeds erg goed en reggae begon ook in te worden.

In december van 1969 brachten de Rolling Stones het album Let it Bleed. Het eerste album met Mick Taylor, de laatste bijdragen van Brian Jones. Ook de laatste keer dat er een album van de Rolling Stones in mono werd uitgebracht.

Erg scheutig waren ze niet, met betrekking tot het afhalen van singles van dit album. De discografie van de wiki geeft maar één nummer in die tijd, Live with me. En dat werd dan zelfs geen eens een hit. Hoe is dat mogelijk?
You can't always get what you want werd nog een succesje in 1973. Het wordt een wat "stil" Rolling Stones jaar, behalve dan de live cd Get yer ya ya's out en de single Little Queenie.

Jimi Hendrix heeft wel een paar mooie singles te gaan, in 1970!

Vreemde keuze om 'Live With Me' tot single te bombarderen. Hoewel ik het een goed nummer vind, hadden ze veel beter voor 'Gimme Shelter' kunnen kiezen. Dit nummer wordt nu beschouwd als een van de allerbeste uit hun hele oevre.

Volgens mij werd Live With Me slechts heel beperkt uitgebracht, en was het oorspronkelijk niet eens de bedoeling een volwaardige single van Let It Bleed te trekken (gebeurde wel vaker in die tijd).

Ik wil nog wel eens katten ten opzichte van Peter Green in vergelijk met zijn opvolger gitarist Buckingham bij Fleetwood Mac. Maar voorlopig mag hij zijn neus naar mij ophalen.

Het is wel zo, dat niet alle werk van Green altijd van het niveau Oh Well is geweest, dat is natuurlijk ook weer waar. Maar alle bekende werk, dus ook Albatross etc. dat is allemaal van onberispelijke klasse.

Kun je als je nummer 1 en 2 bent in de Top 100 toch nog de titel "band van het jaar" mislopen? Nou, misschien door Chicago, die de posities 4, 7 en 8 bezet. Andere opkomende bands zijn natuurlijk Led Zeppelin (posities 11, 12 en 15), Crosby Stills & Nash (5, 10) en Yes.

Overigens veel prachtige Nederrock, met name successen van Brainbox, Shocking Blue, Cuby and the Blizzards en de Golden Earring.

Chicago staat echter nog helemaal aan het begin van hun carriere, met Peter Green (niet met Fleetwood Mac) is het daarentegen bijna gedaan.
Daarom toch maar voor FM.

Maar dan werden er wel alternatieve singles, los van het album uitgebracht. En die zijn er ook niet.

Het kan mij voor de notering niet zozeer schelen of er 50 of vier miljoen exemplaren zijn verkocht. Het blijft een wat merkwaardige gang van zaken. Overigens is Live with me het enige live nummer dat is terug te vinden op Get yer ya ya's out, een live cd van een half jaar later. Blijkbaar hebben ze tijdens de Let it bleed tour toch expliciet ondersteunende aandacht besteed aan Live with me.

Mijn laatste weeklijstje in dit topic. Uiteraard zal ik het nog wel een beetje in de gaten houden, maar ik ga me komend jaar richten op 1964, 1989 en 2014.

50tracks, ArthurDZ, heicro, jassn, kaztor, LucM, ranboy en drijvende kracht musician: dank voor het enthousiasme en de muzikale inspiratie gedurende de afgelopen 2 jaar! Het was heel leuk om zo diep in deze periode van de popmuziek te duiken en ik kan de rest van mijn leven teren op de ontdekkingen die ik hier heb gedaan.

Jij ook bedankt herman! Een band als Os Mutantes was ik waarschijnlijk nooit op het spoor gekomen zonder jouw bijdrage in dit topic!

Als het jaar nog een week langer was, had King Crimson het overzicht gewonnen, maar nu is Space oddity de gelukkige winnaar!

De allerlaatste Mume Top 15 van het jaar 1969.

Een nieuw decennium lonkt, met nieuwe uitdagingen en veel nieuwe goede muziek. Ik had graag iedereen zien meegaan naar het nieuwe jaar 1970 maar dat zal helaas dus niet lukken. Naast Herman zal ook Ruud (50tracks) niet meegaan naar het nieuwe jaar. Ruud zal door grote drukte minder actief op musicmeter kunnen zijn. Misschien haakt hij later wel weer aan, dan is hij uiteraard welkom.

Dat geldt uiteraard ook voor Herman. Zowel hij als Ruud hebben natuurlijk enorm veel bijdragen geleverd aan dit topic, qua nieuwe muziek, onbekende tracks etc. Daar past bij mijzelf alleen maar bescheidenheid. Ik weet dat daar veel tijd in gaat zitten om daar zo actief mee bezig te zijn.

Dat gezegd hebbende, heb ik ondanks het vertrek van Herman en Ruud er zelf erg veel zin in om gewoon met alle anderen door te gaan met de jaren '70. Want ook dat mag worden gezegd: niet iedereen wordt wekelijks voor zijn deelname bedankt maar het spreekt voor zich dat alle bijdragen buitengewoon op prijs worden gesteld. De moeite die er in wordt gestoken is bekend.

Het staat buiten kijf, dat iedereen die heel graag wil aanhaken voor 1970 van harte welkom is. Misschien moet mume nog eens een topic krijgen waar mume-ers kunnen worden gevraagd om aan topics mee te doen, misschien weten velen niet eens dat we bestaan!

Dit was (in ieder geval voorlopig) mijn laatste bijdrage aan dit prachtige forum. 1970 is een schitterend muziek jaar maar de tijd ontbreekt voorlopig om hier echt in te duiken. Ik dank musician voor de prima organisatie en allen (ranboy, heicro, LucM, herman, ArthurDZ, musician en jassn) voor de inspiratie.

Top 50 1969

Gebaseerd op voorkeur, niet op punten.
David Williams, om maar een voorbeeld te noemen, kwam pas in week 51 binnen in mijn top 20 en kan om deze reden niet genoeg punten scoren om bij de beste 50 te komen, maar ik vind dat zijn nummer wel thuis hoort in de jaarlijst van 1969. Hetzelfde geldt voor Seasons van Earth & Fire en Another 45 Miles van Golden Earring.

Over het geheel genomen vond ik 1969 iets minder sterk dan 1967 en 1968, maar deze jaren behoren m.i. tot het beste wat er is voortgebracht in de pophistorie.
Het was wel hét jaar van een flink aantal van mijn all time favourites.

Blues muzikant van het eerste uur is John Mayall. Vele wereldberoemde artiesten hebben ooit in zijn band gespeeld. Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Jack Bruce, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood en Mick Taylor zijn een paar voorbeelden.
Room to Move was op radio Veronica veel te horen. Dit topnummer werd daardoor uiteindelijk zijn enige hit. Het mondharmonicaspel is onweerstaanbaar en maakte grote indruk op mij en vele anderen.
