Ik had eigenlijk natuurlijk mijn lijst gisteravond willen plaatsen maar UMD, voor nog eens een blik op de Engelse en Amerikaanse lijst hield mij tegen: er werd een update verwerkt. Nog gewacht tot vanmorgen, maar helaas.

Dat neemt niet weg, dat er al zeven nieuwe binnenkomers stonden te dringen, waaronder een klassieker van Nederpop bodem: Kayuta hill van Partner. De band zou een aantal jaren bij ons (in de lijsten) blijven maar ondanks onmiskenbare kwaliteiten waren het geen bestormers van de Top 40.

Chicago had een mooie Nederlandse opvolger met Take me back to Chicago en je kunt natuurlijk ook heel goed van Eric Clapton twee singles zien, als het ene land kiest voor Lay down Sally en wij kozen voor Cocaine. Dat maakt voor de noteringen als zodanig niet uit. Eric Clapton heeft er wel mooi profijt van.

Mocht iemand opmerken dat Psycho killer wel laag blijft hangen: 44 jaar geleden kwam hij precies tot 20 bij mij, dus dit is vooruitgang.
En The floral dance vond ik als 11-jarige al een top 10-hit waard, dus dat kan er nu ook wel weer in zitten (ook al ben ik mogelijk de enige).

Play With Fire is een cover van het Stones-nummer. Ik vind het goed gedaan, lekker gruizige garage rock en vrouwelijke backing vocals. De stem van Mick doet me wel wat aan Ian Dury denken.

Opvallend wel, omdat de muziek onlosmakelijk verbonden was met deze serie, maar ja het is dan ook wel een tijdje dat deze serie op TV was (1e aflevering, 5 oktober 1978)

Dateert eigenlijk van 1969, waarom toen pas een hit? Mooie softsoulsong waarbij vooral die heerlijke orgel een belangrijke rol speelt.

Prima en voor hun doen zelfs vrij aanstekelijke bluesrocksong met expressieve soulvolle zang en fijne blazers.

Ik heb de dvd van die serie nog vrij recent ergens voor een schijntje weggeplukt. Ik vind het ook echt 1978. De verhaallijn is aardig, het is wel erg traag naar 2021 begrippen. Maar voor een paar avondjes jeugdsentiment is Who pays the ferryman leuk te doen.

De charme is ook de wetenschap, dat er nog echt singletjes werden gedraaid in die tijd. Inclusief krassen en overslaan, gebeurt bij meerdere nummers.

Lex Harding doet net of zijn neus bloed. Maar daar liep bij John Paul Young iemand tegen de draaitafel aan en ook Earth & Fire en Black Sabbath komen er niet schadevrij vanaf.

De ware horror voor de verzamelaar: krassende en overslaande exemplaren in je bezit....
Deze week de Sex Pistols op toernee door Nederland en 1e Kerstdag 1977 de Top 100 aller tijden bij Veronica!

Ben toch bang dat johan de witt vandaag de deadline niet gaat halen. Dan gebruik ik de lijst van vorige week, is natuurlijk niet zo'n probleem.

Dank voor alle lijsten voor deze eerste week in december (op weg naar het einde van het jaar) 50tracks, ranboy, herman, Martial, Poeha, luigifort en Justus18. Voor johan de witt deed zijn lijst van vorige week mee.

LucM uiteraard voor de beoordelingen van de nieuwe singles in de Tipparade. Onweerwolf had weer een mooie aflevering van de Top 40!

Waarbij de omroep in wording nog steeds op grote schaal gebruik maakt van de oude jingles, dat wil zeggen, vanuit de tijd dat ze nog gewoon op zee zaten. Maar hoe lang was dat alweer geleden.

"Slechts" 89 deelnemende nummers, is toch weer 4 minder dan vorige week.
En zowaar een echte Hamilton-Verstappen finish met voor zowel Costello als de Talking Heads 84 punten! En voor de kenners toch maar even de herhaling waarom Costello uiteindelijk toch nog wint. Dat gaat puur en alleen om de ene eerste plaats die hij nog heeft. Waar de Talking Heads de tweede plek als hoogste positie hebben staan.

En dan wint Watching the detectives.
Het kan zomaar gebeuren dat het verlies toch (behoorlijk) wordt ingezet. En dan valt Elvis volgende week zwaar naar beneden. Zoals dit keer gebeurd is met het Electric Light Orchestra. Van 2 naar 10 is natuurlijk niet niets.

Voor Queen en Wings zijn allebei de druiven een beetje zuur: een puntje winst maar toch een plaatsje verlies in de lijst. Zo wordt het natuurlijk nooit wat. Maar wie had gerekend op zo'n winst van Gruppo Sportivo!

Afgelopen weekend ben ik na lange tijd weer door dit topic gaan scrollen. En toen kwam ik dit tegen:
Toen moest ik aan deze eerdere quotes denken.

Inmiddels ben ik ouder en wijzer en heb ik hitlijsten van Jamaica uit 1967 gezien.
Je moet de kranten van Jamaica bekijken en dan moet je de Kingston Gleaner hebben. Die kranten staan allemaal online en binnen de gratis proefperiode kan je de Jamaicaanse hitparades vanaf 1959 tot 1974 bijna allemaal terugvinden (klik).

En anders heb ik ze voor je, ik kan ze je PM-en. En eventueel andere geïnteresseerden ook.
Ze begonnen ermee in 1959 en stoppen abrupt met de publicatie van die lijstjes in 1974. Daarna heb ik ze zeer sporadisch van een paar Jamaicaanse radiostations maar helaas (nog) niet van 1977 of 1978.

Ook ik stopte plotseling in 1974.
Aan die tijdelijkheid komt zeer spoedig een eind. Ik doe binnenkort hier weer mee.
Op mijn allereerste en voorkeurstopic op musicmeter stoppen we weldra definitief vanwege gebrek aan deelnemers. Het is de afgelopen jaren steeds een soort `Theme from the third man`. Net als in die beroemde film bleek de derde man steeds te verschijnen en te verdwijnen.

Dat we stoppen is voor mij geen groot issue omdat de periode die daar aanbreekt vrijwel samenvalt met het eerste moment dat ik hier in 1972 met dit topic begon. Kortom, met een derde man erbij is de kans groot dat ik daar binnenkort de verdwijnende derde man wordt.

Toch zijn er wel wat gaten gevallen, een half jaartje 72, de periode 1974-77 en verder mis ik eigenlijk ook de periode voor oktober 1965 hoewel dat hier wat off topic lijkt. Van de jaren 60 heb ik ooit wel mijn nummer 1 hits gepubliceerd in dat andere topic toen we weer een derde man kwijtraakten.

Ik ga eerst wat gaten vullen met het voor mij beste vulmateriaal, mijn persoonlijke nummer 1`s. Het lijkt mij leuk om op een speelse manier het voorportaal van 1978 van mijn nummer 1 hits hier te publiceren. Daar verbind ik een kwis aan met een cliffhanger op vraag nummer 10.

Ik heb gekozen voor een lange lijst van al mijn nummer 1-hits van de afgelopen jaren. Daarbij zal ik als tiende deelnemer in 1978 mijn lijst van 10 keer 78 nummer 1 hits publiceren. Wat een toeval dat we beginnen met:

1 Mijn favoriete mm-duo johan de witt en luigifort hebben de afgelopen weken opvallende niet-Engelstalige nr. 1 keuzes zoals de Vlieger en A far l'amore comincia tu. Mijn lijst is wat dat betreft eenzijdiger. Deze is tamelijk vol van Engelstalige nummers en kent slechts een beperkt aantal niet-Engelstalige nummers die op de vingers van twee handen zijn te tellen. Wat is het eerste niet Engelstalige nummer in mijn lijst?
De eerste is een instrumentale maar met een Engelstalige titel dus die telt niet mee.
Daarom is Nr. 14 het goede antwoord. Deze dans is onderdeel van de rumba periode zoals 1978 onderdeel is van de disco periode.

2 Welke artiest(en) had(den) de langste periode tussen twee nummer 1 hits? Dat record werd dit jaar (1977) gevestigd. Deze werd nergens top 10 bij de users hier maar haalde wel de 11e plek bij Martial en 12e bij herman.
Johnnie Watson. Nr 119 - 759. Hij zal in 1978 zijn laatste hit bij mij scoren en haalt dit keer niet de nummer 1.

3 Leuk die wekelijkse polderplaatjes van 50tracks. Hoe vaak staat er een polderplaat tussen mijn nr. 1 hits in bovenstaande lijst?
Slechts 5 keer: nr. 54, 108, 226, 619 en 698.
Merkwaardig zijn de Nederlandstalige gevallen hiertussen want ik heb meestal wat minder met Nederlandstalig. Nr. 54 is een enorme guilty pleasure van mij en dat zal te maken hebben met dat ik dit jaar 25 jaar getrouwd was. Maar het nummer verwijst ook vanuit zijn tijd mooi naar dit topic. Nr. 226 heeft te maken met een boek dat ik aan het schrijven ben.

4 Welke artiesten hebben de meeste nr. 1 hits? Het is ook de nr. 1 in LucMs artiesten top 10.
The Beatles, 29 stuks. Ze scoren bij mij in augustus 1978 wederom een (kleine) hit.
Voor de singlepuristen (EPs zijn geen singles) hebben the Beatles eigenlijk maar 26 nr. 1 hits gescoord, en dan hebben ze nog het meeste aantal. Als alternatief voor deze twijfelgevallen heb ik deze:

6 Hoewel Justus18 althans met mij een ietwat afwijkende smaak heeft heb ik hem zelden kunnen betrappen op een nummer 1 dat totaal niet voorkomt in andere user lijstjes. Nou valt dat over de afgelopen jaren ook niet te stellen want ik ken zijn nr. 1 hits niet. Maar wat ik wel weet: Justus is net als ik iemand die ook graag de B-kant beluisterd. Welke van nr. 1 nummers kwamen de afgelopen 4 jaar hier in dit topic niet in de lijstjes bij andere deelnemers in dit topic voor?

7 Met wie van de huidige deelnemers hier had ik gedurende mijn afwezigheid van 1974 tot nu in 1977 de grootste klik als het gaat om de nummer 1 hits? Daarbij moet je kijken naar de verhouding tussen het aantal overeenkomende nummer 1 hits versus niet overeenkomende nummer 1 hits.

9 Welk liedje kent hoe vaak de meeste uitvoeringen en zal in 1978 ook weer in de top 40 staan? Het is een nummer dat in dezelfde uitvoering al twee keer de gezamenlijke lijst haalde en ook nog eens in een uitvoering van Nina Simone dat niet in mijn bovenstaande lijst van nr. 1 hits staat.
Drie keer: I put a spell on you: nrs. 188, 255, 323. Dee Dee zal begin september 1978 hiermee de top 40 binnenkomen.
Nr. 323 wist in 1968 en 1972 de gezamenlijke lijst te halen.

10 Wat is mijn 780e nummer 1 hit sinds 5 november 1949?

Met het toenemen van het aantal singles van een album, beginnen we ook steeds meer gerommel te zien met verschillende releasedata overal ter wereld en tegelijkertijd meer op landen uitgezochte tracks: wordt daar nog maar eens wijs uit.

Nu is het wel zo dat er feitelijk dus sprake is van een luxe probleem. Want, muziekland wordt meer en meer een keuzeparadijs waar je eerder met nummers om je oren wordt geslagen dan dat je ze met lichtje moet zoeken.

En dus, lang verhaal kort, nieuwe singles van de Stranglers en Santana die niet standaard zijn uitgebracht in het Westen zoals ik dat normaliter hanteer. Geen Engeland, VS of Nederland. Dat maakt de singles er op zich natuurlijk niet beter of slechter op. Maar het is wel zo, dat een goede single een goede single is en blijft. Daar maakt het land waar het is uitgebracht geen verschil in.

Dus de singles Moonflower en Sometimes.
En tegelijkertijd ook de herwaardering voor Brian Eno. Die het ook maar weer eens met een single probeert. Eno, één van de meest bewierrookte producenten, ooit lid van Roxy Music, wordt niet geplaatst bij de rockdinosauriërs. Hij doet gewoon mee in het alternatieve circuit.

Leuk nummer van een bijzondere Italiaanse danseres die ook nog kan zingen, mijn voorkeur gaat uit naar de Italiaanse single uit november 1976 waar bovenstaande A-kant de B-kant is. De Italiaanse A-kant van die single Forte forte forte vind ik namelijk ook heel aardig.
In 1971 kan je kiezen voor Tuca Tuca, een dans waar een merkwaardige erotische lading vanuit gaat.

Ik schat deze op april 1978 vanwege de labelnummering van Ariola. Maar ik doe ook gewoon met jullie mee, net of die toch uit 1977 komt.

Deze kan ik mij nog heel vaag herinneren. Komt van het label 1000 Idioten records dat er vanuit ging dat er voor elk van hun platen ten minste duizend idiote kopers te vinden moesten zijn. Staat ook in de Dipparade uit het boek Vic van de Reijts groot 45-toerenboek.

Toevallig staat daar ook dit nummer in wat volgens mij volgende week op 23 december 1977 uitkwam en waarin de Zangeres Zonder Naam de Amerikaanse homobestrijdster Anita Bryant vergelijkt met Adolf Hitler.
De Zangeres Zonder Naam zingt dan ook:
Hij vervolgde de Joden, deed niets dan hen doden.

Pikant detail, afgelopen zomer werd bekend dat de kleindochter van Anita Bryant gaat trouwen met een vrouw. Oma Anita zal voor haar bidden.

Veel punkers in mijn lijstje maar de discorage van 1978 is al voelbaar met de geniale singles van de Bee Gees en Cerrone met Supernature.
Ook bij mij geldt net als bij Justus dat de A-kanten meetellen voor de puntentelling tenzij er een * achter staat. Alleen bij nr. 2 en 20 staat een * bij de B-kant en dan is er een voorkeur voor de B-kant.
