De eerste hit van dit vijftal. Vrolijke, erg aanstekelijk en toch inventieve sixtiespop zonder misplaatste pretenties, wat mij betreft niets mis mee.

Het meest opvallende is dat The Mamas & Papas zelfs 5 weken na de release nog steeds stijgen.
The Moody Blues verloor vorige week terrein, maar krabbelt weer op. Billy Stewart stijgt ook ondanks punten verlies. The Velvet Underground wint het meeste terrein.

Van de nieuwkomers in de top 20 is Tim Hardin de meest opvallende. Vijftig jaar geleden haalde hij met 'Don't Make Promises' de top 40 namelijk niet.

Ruig maar ook erg aanstekelijk, deze melodie krijg je niet uit je hoofd en daarom is dit een klassieker geworden.
Cijfer: 8,5

26. Bob Dylan - I Want You
Geen clip gevonden maar iedereen kent dit nummer. Lijkt eenvoudig maar typisch Dylan door de zang en erg leuke mondharmonica. Ook erg ritmisch met aanstekelijke en vlotte melodie en natuurlijk de prima tekst.
Cijfer: 9

33. The Byrds - 5D (Fifth Dimension)
Ook dit nummer heeft een vrij simpele maar aanstekelijke melodie, het klinkt folky met een licht psychedelisch tintje vanwege de (Rickenbacker) gitaarsound.
Cijfer: 8,5

34. The Association - Along Comes Mary
Ook dit nummer heeft een psychedelisch tintje. Zang lijkt op Mama's & Papa's maar wat ritmischer, de dwarsfluit in het midden is wel een prima toevoeging.

38. Elvis Presley - Love Letters
Die periode bracht Elvis vooral kutfilms uit met dito soundtracks maar zijn nummers daarbuiten zijn wel in orde. Vaak gecoverd maar deze ingetogen versie vind ik één van de beste uitvoeringen.

Opvallend herman dat the Dovers na een paar maanden afwezigheid opnieuw binnenkomen.
Ook opvallend dat de The Shangri-La's met Past, Present & Future er nu al uit vallen. Dit was in het Top 100 topic volgens mij jouw enige en dus beste nummer van 1966. Ze mogen nu volgens mij blij zijn als ze jouw top 10 van 1966 halen.
Maar het jaar is nog niet om. Ze kunnen natuurlijk nog over een paar maanden weer terug komen.
In Nederland deden ze dat met the leader of the pack ook en daar zat zelfs 7 jaar tussen.

Klopt, ik was even vergeten dat The Dovers al in mijn lijst stonden en ze waren weer in mijn tiplijst beland. Maar volgende week zullen ze er wel weer uitvallen, want er is genoeg concurrentie.

Past, Present & Future grijpt me nu toch een stuk minder dan een jaar geleden. Ik denk ook dat die top 100 er nu wel wat anders uit zou zien. Mocht ik hem volgend jaar opnieuw opmaken, dan staan er ongetwijfeld meer nummers uit 1966 (en ook 1991) in.

Het is knap dat je zo'n top 100 weet te publiceren. Ik zou dat niet kunnen. Ik krijg het aan het eind van dit jaar al gigantisch moeilijk met de jaarlijst van 1966.
