Eleanor Rigby van The Beatles staat al wekenlang met een straatlengte voorsprong op één.
Een opvallend feit is dat geen van The Beatles een instrument bespeelt op dit nummer. Paul McCartney zingt de lead vocal, en Lennon en Harrison zingen de harmonieën, maar de muziek is geheel uitgevoerd door een paar strijkkwartetten, gearrangeerd door de 'vijfde' Beatle George Martin.

Verder zijn er opvallend weinig grote verschuivingen en komen er slechts twee nieuwe nummers binnen in de laagste regionen.

Blijkbaar maakt LucM gebruik van de site Nederlandse top 40.
Ten onrechte noemt deze site Willy Schobben in augustus 1966 al. Deze single moet volgens mij nog door Willy Schobben worden opgenomen en komt in oktober 1966 uit. Deze komt pas binnen in de top 40 op de allerlaatste dag van 1966.
Ook deze staat fout maar is een twijfelgeval. De Nederlandse release in de eerste persing heet Vision maar dat staat fout op de hoes en etiket van de single en geheel afwijkend van alle buitenlandse releases. Een latere persing toont wel de goede titel.

Een advies is om het originele gedrukte exemplaar (pdf) te gebruiken (die staat ook op dezelfde site) bij het beoordelen van singles. Daar staat vaker de juiste informatie. Willy schobben wordt daar pas genoemd op 31 december 1966 en Cliff Richard staat in het gedrukte exemplaar met de titel "Visons".

Inmiddels zijn we ruim de duizend singletracks gepasseerd. De oudere maanden van 1966 komen nog voorbij waarbij vooral de Amerikaanse en Britse top 40 en de topicgenoten die een top 40 hebben de leveranciers van de singles zijn.

In 1966 had Johnny Hoes op de televisie een show met de titel "een lach en een traan" waarin Nederlandstalige liedjes vertolkt werden. Een uitstekende titel omdat de meeste Nederlandstalige singles in de top 40 onder te verdelen zijn in een lach (feestplaten) en een traan (smartlappen).
Voor mij valt op in augustus 1966 dat er ook Nederlandstalig werk voorbij komt wat niet tot die categorieën behoort en ook niet de top 40 haalde. Zo zet Boudewijn de Groot al twee tracks (1020, 1078) op single die later in 1966 op zijn legendarische LP "Voor de overlevenden" terug te vinden zijn. Connie vandenBos haalt met haar "Paleis met gouden muren" (1097) niet de top 40 maar wel veel later de jaarlijkse top 2000 van Radio 2. Ook "de makelaar uit Schagen" (1019) van Martine Bijl is heel bekend maar haalde de top 40 niet. Nederlandstalige muziek kan soms kunstzinnig zijn zoals "de kinderen van de zee" (1018) van Liesbeth List wat gebaseerd is op het :"Adagio in G" van de Italiaanse componist Albinoni . Het was een heel oude compositie die pas in 1948 ontdekt werd, verder in de jaren 50 bewerkt werd en dus eigenlijk vrij recente klassieke muziek is.

We zien meer nummers die gecoverd worden terwijl ze vrij recent zijn. Zo is uit 1966 de beroemde musical "Cabaret" (1012) die de komende maanden vaker voorbij komt in diverse uitvoeringen. En Bad little woman kennen we nog van The-Wheel-aways (08) / The Wheels (122) maar ook the Shadow of knight (1005) komen met een uitvoering.
De B-kant "Put yourself in my place" (990) van the Supremes wordt door het muziekblad Hitweek net zo goed genoemd als de A-kant "You can't hurry love". Ze hadden er wat mij betreft wel bij mogen melden dat het origineel van The Elgins is en in januari al in ons topic scoorde.

Er zijn deze maand ook fraaie originals te ontdekken. Zoals "Je Voudrais Tant Que Tu Comprennes" (1073) van Marie Laforêt die in de jaren 80 gecoverd wordt door Mylène Farmer, een zangeres die het goed doet in sommige topics.

Dat in ons topic niet speciaal dezelfde artiesten het goed doen blijkt ook deze maand.
Opvallend is dat Sam and Dave (1108), Otis Redding (1055), en Bob Lind (1109) met hun recente singles niet in de persoonlijke lijstjes terechtkwamen hoewel ze met eerdere singles hoog scoorden. Bij Otis Redding is het wel verklaarbaar want er is sprake van een single uit 1965 die toen wel in ons topic hoog scoorde en nu in Engeland veel later wordt uitgebracht en een hit wordt.

Rereleases of latere releases blijft lastig. Bewust heb ik niet de single "Lorna" van Adrian Lloyd opgenomen omdat deze al uit september 1965 stamt. Omdat er volgens mij geen rerelease in 1966 is of latere release in 1966 buiten de Verenigde Staten is wordt het lastig deze op te nemen in de releaseoverzichten. Voor een single als "The kids are allright" (1126) heb ik dat wel gedaan omdat deze later is uitgebracht in Engeland. En bij "Land of thousand dances" (1080) is er sprake van een rerelease op een ander label.
De single "Lorna"van Adrian Loyd is legendarisch en werd niet voor niets op Record store day in 2013 opnieuw op single uitgebracht. Ik heb als voorstel dat we aan het eind van het jaar bij de jaaroverzichten het 1965-nummer hanteren zodat we uiteindelijk ook kunnen vaststellen hoeveel nummers we daadwerkelijk in 1966 in onze lijstjes hebben opgenomen. Daar zitten dan ook alle 1965-nummers bij die we begin dit jaar in onze lijstjes hadden staan.

Top-40: week 37 van 1966.

31. De Zangeres Zonder Naam - Jongens Van Achttien Jaar
Duidelijk een stellingname tegen de dienstplicht (die toen nog bestond) en oorlog, het komt mij hoewel erg sentimenteel en een tikkeltje oubollig ook oprecht en charmant over.

32. Donovan - Sunshine Superman
Werd aanvankelijk beschouwd als het Britse antwoord op Bob Dylan maar etaleert hier duidelijk een eigen stijl met psychedelische trekjes. Prima gitaarwerk ook (van Jimmy Page).

33. Stevie Wonder - Blowin' In The Wind
Dit is dan weer een Dylan-cover waarin de soul van Stevie Wonder zich verder ontwikkelt. Al is hier de oorspronkelijke versie moeilijk te overtreffen.

39. Golden Earrings - Daddy Buy Me A Girl
Aanstekelijke melodie en ritme al klinken Golden Earrings nog teveel als hun Britse voorbeelden. Pas enkele jaren later hadden er een eigen herkenbare sound.

Een van de mooiste klassieke stukken die ik ken. Ik ben heel benieuwd. Sowieso ook wel naar wat andere Nederlandstalige nummers in de lijst. Zowel de smartlappen en feestplaten gaan wat langs me heen, maar wat meer Nederlandstalige kwaliteitsmuziek uit deze jaren is welkom.


Ook heel benieuwd naar, Mylène Farmer heeft bij mij in een paar grote hits gescoord in het zustertopic '1991'.


Ik was de singles gewoonweg nog niet op het spoor. Dus ben wel blij met je monnikenwerk. Toen ik uitbreidde naar een top 40 was dat met het idee een wat kleinere tiplijst te hebben, maar zo lukt dat natuurlijk niet. Gelukkig ben ik een avondje vrij om lekker muziek te kunnen luisteren.


Je voorstel lijkt mij prima. Lorna heb ik in mijn lijstje. Geen idee meer hoe ik die heb ontdekt. Wellicht via 45cat.com of anders via de Amerikaanse charts. Dat het nog zowat een jaar ouder is dan ik dacht, maakt het nummer alleen nog maar indrukwekkender.

Hoe was het?

Lekker, was wel toe aan een rustig avondje. Alleen zo aan het eind van de week wil ik ook altijd wel vroeg naar bed.

Als je met 50 jaar oude singles omgaat dan ga je je vanzelf ook minstens zo oud voelen.

Gelukkig gaan we ook met 25 jaar oude singles om

Daar ben ik inderdaad eerder klaar mee.

Voor mij is het andersom..die 60s duren vaak heerlijk maar 2:30..bij 91 is het meestal het dubbele

Ik wist niet dat Bobby Darin de eerste was die If I Were A Carpenter heeft uitgebracht. Geweldige versie, ik vind hem wellicht nog beter dan die van Tim Hardin, die het nummer schreef.

Al vijf weken staan The Beatles op 1, maar houden ze dit nog een week vol? Of nemen The Four Tops het stokje over?
Verder zijn er weinig opzienbarende verschuivingen. De klassieker van Bob Dylan stijgt zoals verwacht, The Monkees ook en outsiders zoals Them en Cliff Bennett zullen nog wel een paar plaatsen stijgen.

Vijf weken en gezien de voorsprong zal er sowieso nog wel een weekje bij komen denk ik.

Wat is het record eigenlijk?

Geen idee, nooit bijgehouden. We Can Work It Out/ Daytripper misschien?

We Can Work It Out/ Daytripper haalde drie weken.
Volgens mij Ticket to ride - The Beatles (6 weken; 18 april-23 mei 1965).
Uiteraard uitsluitend gemeten op basis van dit topic (1963-1966). Of bedoelt herman van alle lijstjestopics?

Nee alleen van deze. Ik dacht dat I Want To Hold Your Hand ook zoiets had.

Nou en of. Alleen heeft dit nummer een officieus record omdat er in de maand januari 1964 te weinig deelnemers waren. Officieus staat dit record op 9 weken van 7-12-1963 tot en met 1-2-1964.
Als we in januari 1964 er nog een paar deelnemers bij hadden gehad met de smaak van herman dan had "I want to hold your hand" het officieel niet gered want in hermans lijstje was dit nummer toen al nagenoeg verdwenen.

Justus18 heeft sinds zijn entree binnen dit topic altijd een top 40 geleverd. Hij hanteert bovendien een prachtig puntensysteem bij zijn lijstjes. Het zou een gemis zijn als hij dat moet loslaten. We moeten zijn mooie commentaar ook al enige weken missen. Uiteraard gaan bepaalde zaken voor maar ik vind dit geen vooruitgang voor dit topic.
