Een jaar of 5 geleden kocht ik voor wat research eens het boek Beatmeisjes van Frank Dam. Leuk boek, maar ik kom er nu pas achter dat er ook een editie bestaat met een bonus-cd. Helaas heb ik die niet, anders had ik dat leuke nummer van Leontien Snel al eerder ontdekt.

Verder nog wat mooie ontdekkingen, zoals een ballade van Michel Polnareff en een nummer van Lowell Fulson dat bekend aandoet (zal wel door de Otis Redding-cover zijn).

Hoog binnen komt de nieuwe single van The Kinks: een van hun beste en een fijne revanche na het flauwe Mr. Spaceman.

Ik ben het hier helemaal mee eens. Als je wil bezuinigen op de extra info, dan zou ik de vergelijking met andere tops als eerste weglaten.

Ik sluit me ook aan bij Herman. en justus18.

Bovendien heb ik er een dubbel gevoel bij. Ik vond je laatste overzicht (met de commentaren) geweldig, maar ik vond het ook erg veel.

MuMe is voor mij toch voor snelle en toegankelijke info en lijstjes. Als je het toch maakt zou het voor mij een oplossing zijn als je het als bijv. excel lijst beschikbaar stelt. Dan is het meer een naslagwerk op het moment dat ik er tijd en zin in heb en kan ik er makkelijker door heen surfen (niet als extra werk bedoeld maar ik neem aan dat je zoiets als basisniveau gebruikt).

Maar ik zou ook heel tevreden zijn met een soort tiplijstje met een beperkt aantal nummers van deze week/maand. Eigenlijk a la Luc maar dan met meer exotische keuzes die je ons voorschotelt. We hoeven niet te streven naar compleetheid, lukt toch nooit.

Ja, dat vermoedde ik al want Jenny and the Rascals staat er ook op. En het boek is weer van al die eerdere krantenartikelen uit het NRC.

The Buffalo Springfield maakt een grote sprong van 7 naar 2. Het ziet ernaar uit dat deze band volgende week op 1 staat. In 1967 was Buffalo Springfield nog amper buiten de VS bekend. 'For What It's Worth (Stop , Hey What's That Sound)' heeft dan ook niet in de Belgische en Nederlandse hitlijsten gestaan. De waardering voor dit nummer groeide pas later, wat ook blijkt uit de notering in de Top 2000.

The Byrds met 'So You Want To Be A Rock 'N' Roll Star' gaan als een speer en zullen nog verder stijgen. Ook dit nummer deed het in 1967 niet geweldig. In Engeland flopte het en in Nederland stond het slechts één week op 40. In de VS haalde het plek nummer 29.

The Byrds zijn een erg goed gedocumenteerde band als het om releasedata gaat in tegenstelling tot bijvoorbeeld Cat Stevens vorige week.
Dan is het jammer dat ze met een single die niet voor maandag 9 januari 1967 verkrijgbaar was de gezamenlijke top 20 weten te halen van zaterdag 7 januari.
Of je past de datum van de top 20 aan of je neemt het nummer niet op of het klopt gewoon niet.

Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth (Stop , Hey What's That Sound)" is in 1967 niet in Nederland op single uitgebracht. Je kon de single wel in Duitsland en Frankrijk krijgen. Pas in 1971 werd de single alsnog in Nederland uitgebracht maar inderdaad met weinig succes.

Het was mij inderdaad ook opgevallen, maar aangezien inmiddels een aantal deelnemers The Byrds reeds in hun lijstjes hadden opgenomen vond ik het te ver gaan om rectificaties te verlangen. Het gaat immers om slechts twee dagen en we hadden afgesproken om niet te gaan muggenschriften. (met een n)

Ik ben het niet eens met jouw eerste quote hierboven om drie redenen:

1) Bij Paperback writer ging het ook om twee dagen. En daar hadden meerdere deelnemers deze ook al opgenomen. Dus moet je consequent zijn. Ik vind het dus heel goed wat je daarover in jouw tweede quote hebt gesteld. Twee dagen is eigenlijk een week.

2) Ik ben er nooit een voorstander van om individuele lijstjes te rectificeren. Het lijkt mij goed als we elkaar verbetervoorstellen doen, ook als het details betreft. Maar het persoonlijke lijstje wordt alleen gewijzigd met goedkeuring van de persoon die het gemaakt heeft.
Dus een nummer van Radiohead in iemands weeklijstje van 1967? Geen probleem voor mij, maar ik stuur wel een verbetervoorstel.

3) Je kunt dus drie dingen doen met het weeklijstje. Je past de datum van de top 20 aan (maar dat wil je niet gezien je tweede quote) of je neemt het nummer niet op of het klopt gewoon niet. Ik zou aan het derde punt willen toevoegen, of het klopt gewoon niet maar als we weten of vermoeden dat het niet klopt dan benoemen we dat ook.
Een voetnoot, net als met Paperback writer.
En volgens mij is dat hier nu wel voldoende gedaan.

14. Boudewijn de Groot - Het Land Van Maas En Waal
Boudewijn de Groot gaat meer de carnavalstoer op maar hij komt er goed mee weg mede door de sterke tekst die ook meezingbaar is. Maar zijn beste song zoul ik hey niet noemen, het werd wel zijn grootste hit.

24. The Condors - Tomorrow
Kende ik niet, het lijkt wel wat op Beach Boys. Toch wel een erg leuke song voor de vocale harmonieën en de licht psychedelische sfeer.

34. Rudy Bennett - How Can We Hang On To A Dream / Tim Hardin - How Can We Hang On To A Dream
Twee versies van deze klassieker waarvan ik die van Tim Hardin de mooiste vind, is vlotter maar nog meer melancholiek.

39. Rocco Granata - Hello Buona Sera
Deze streekgenoot van mij was ook in Nederland succesvol, opmerkelijk. Dit nummer heeft een gezellige sfeer al is er ook jatterij van Paul Anka - Love Me Warm And Tender.

Geweldige nieuwe singles van The Doors en The Byrds, maar vooralsnog springen de nummers van de Rockin' Ramrods en Kim Fowley er voor mij wel bovenuit. Het niveau is deze weken weer erg hoog met bijna elke week een nieuwe binnenkomer van de buitencategorie.

Fowley's Lights vind ik met de week beter en is nu dan ook al 12 weken aan het stijgen. Had niet gedacht dat ie zover komen toen ie in zijn tweede week van 31 naar 29 steeg. Ik ontdekte overigens dat Lights een psychedelische bewerking is van Hepstars' The Wedding, wat op zich ook wel een leuk nummer is. En Hepstars is dan weer het eerste bandje van Benny Andersson, die later op zou duiken in het bandje Abba.

Verder aardig wat nummers die de top 10 bestormen, wat de vernieuwing van de lijst wel ten goed komt.

Vier van de zes deelnemers zorgen voor voldoende punten om For What It's Worth (Stop , Hey What's That Sound) van Buffalo Springfield op de eerste plaats te zetten. Een waardig opvolger van Dead End Street van The Kinks. Toch komt So You Want To Be A Rock 'N' Roll Star van The Byrds al binnen twee weken akelig dicht in de buurt en..........er is alweer nieuwe concurrentie in aantocht. The Doors met Break On Through (To The Other Side) gaat in de eerste week al als een komeet richting de top.

17. The Rolling Stones - Let's Spend the Night Together / The Rolling Stones - Ruby Tuesday
Een dubbele A-kant met wederom beiden prima singles. Een vrij simpel maar vrolijk meezingrocknummer en een inventief licht psychedelisch getinte popsong met flower power-sfeer.
Cijfer: 8,5 / 9

25. Snoopy vs. The Red Baron - The Royal Guardsmen
Grappig cartoonesk nummer over een beruchte Duitse gevechtspiloot in de eerste wereldoorlog, getuigt toch wel van fantasie al stelt het muzikaal niet zo veel voor.
Cijfer: 7,5

33. Cat Stevens - Matthew & Son
Zijn tweede hit en een ietsje beter dan voorganger I Love My Dog, het valt mij op dat zijn eerste hits nog rijkelijk zijn gearrangeerd (met violen en blazers).
Cijfer: 8

38. The Lovin' Spoonful - Nashville Cats
Luchtige folkrocksong met een knipoog naar country dat de titel en tekst ook aangeven. Toch wel een leuke maar wat onderschatte band.

Ik volg al een aantal jaar de uitvoerige blogs van Greg Wilson, een Engelse DJ uit de jaren '70/'80, en nu heeft hij een mooi stuk geschreven over 1967:

Het stuk gaat verder over allerlei genres, artiesten en de eerste multiculturele nummer 1 hit. Ook leuk om te lezen dat sommige mensen destijds dachten dat de Beatles op hun retour waren, omdat Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields hun eerste single in lange tijd was die niet op 1 terecht kwam (dankzij Engelbert Humperdinck). Maar toen moest Sgt. Pepper's nog uitkomen...

Verder zit er ook een 6-uur-durende playlist bij met Top 40-hits in volgorde van binnenkomst in de hitlijst. Grappig om te zien dat sommige nummers bij ons 2 jaar terug al langskwamen.

Zo af en toe heeft een mens eens een feestje (gisteravond) en vanmorgen heb ik weer eens op de schaatsen gestaan in een schitterende oud Hollandse entourage inclusief snert. Dus iets later dan gebruikelijk dan toch mijn top 40. Trouwens Herman, dat was een interessant stukje over dj Greg Wilson.
Ik ben zelf ook amateur dj en ga zijn blogs zeker lezen.
Wat betreft mijn top 40 heb ik niet heel veel te melden. De top 10 is voor mij persoonlijk één van de beste aller tijden. De grootste verrassingen zijn The Beach Boys met 'I Know There 's an Answer' en Gene Clark met 'Echoes'. Dankzij dit topic waren dat geweldige singles ontdekkingen.
De beste nieuwkomer is wat mij betreft 'I'm A Man' van The Spencer Davis Group. Het roemruchte 'Break On Through (To The Other Side)' van The Doors heeft mij nooit kippenvel bezorgt, maar is wel een top 15 kandidaat. En dan zijn er ook twee blues nieuwkomers die best de moeite waard zijn:
John Mayall's Bluesbreakers - 'Sitting In The Rain' en Slim Harpo - 'I'm Your Bread Maker, Baby'.

Voor de "schaatsliefhebbers". Vanavond, zondag 22 januari op NPO 1 van 22.12-22.42 uur in het TV-programma andere tijden sport. Ard en Keessie. Ze zien elkaar weer eens na jaren.

En voor de "muziekliefhebbers"?
Belofte maakt schuld. Ik had eerder vorig jaar beloofd om ook het slechtste nummer van 1966 te kiezen.
Ik zit ongeveer op dezelfde lijn als herman en LucM. Bovenaan mijn floplijst staan Ard en Keessie.
Hooguit leuk af en toe op een feestje.
