De nieuwe single is wel leuk, maar ik vind die bassline toch teveel op Can't Stop lijken, zoveel dat het me irriteert. (edit: zei ik al eerder overigens zie ik net, oeps). Anyways, wss geen top 20 plaats voor mij.

Ik luister meestal mijn top 40 op de fiets, en als ik nummers begin te skippen gooi ik ze uit mijn lijst. Radiohead heeft het helaas niet overleefd, vond het toch niks aan. En ik ga het niet in mijn lijst zetten "omdat het Radiohead is". Wel een eervolle vermelding voor Highly Suspect - Bloodfeather, heerlijk nummer en 7 weken het gehaald. Nu begint het nummer toch "te oud" te worden voor deze lijst.

Dat valt mij enigszins tegen, de nieuwe single van de Red Hot Chili Peppers. Ik had ruimte vrij gemaakt maar toen uiteindelijk er slechts 40 nummers mochten overbleven, haalden ze die plek niet eens.

Het zijn oudjes las ik ergens. Zelf blijf ik het altijd nog zien als een wat jongere band, net als bijvoorbeeld Pearl Jam, omdat ik artiesten van eind jaren '80, begin jaren '90 nu eenmaal niet als ouder kan beschouwen, met nog zoveel actieve groepen uit de jaren '60 en '70.

En dan hoef je als Red Hot Chili Peppers nog niet zo uitgeblust te klinken als nu toch wel een beetje het geval is.

De duvel is oud en de Drowners zijn natuurlijk nog broekies van het zuiverste water. Babys! Ze hebben voor mij alleen wel het mooiste nummer van de week gemaakt, hoewel ik het nummer een paar weken over het hoofd heb gezien. Verder dank voor de Amazones, D.A.R.K., Car Seat Headrest en de Minor Victories, die ik o.a. oppikte bij Grecio en DJFrankie.

De nieuwe peppers klinkt beheerst, niet meer zo wild, maar dat hoeft daarom geen minpunt te zijn. Verder niets opzienbarend aan natuurlijk, maar slecht, zeker ook niet. Bassline trekt op Can't Stop? Iets in mij zegt dat dat niet de 1ste keer is bij hen

Ik bekijk het maar per nummer en misschien volgende week.

Maar Dark necessities is toch wel heel erg mellow.
En dat is dan nog tot daar aan toe, maar bij de RHCP valt het juist extra op

Janet Jackson: Janets nieuwe single lijkt ditmaal toch weer wat terug te slaan op haar oudere werk, maar klinkt tegelijkertijd fris.
AlunaGeorge: De derde single op rij die wat mij betreft helemaal raak is. Deze is wat rustiger en donkerder, met een subtiele en gedetailleerde productie van ZHU. Die laatste bevestigt voor mij nu ook zijn talentenstatus.
Grimes: heerlijk euforisch popliedje waarbij ze het ontzettend lekkere ritme van Rihanna's Pon de Replay leent. Ook Grimes flirt nu met dancehall.
NAVVI: gloedvolle, sfeervolle electro-pop met zangeres, kan bij een hoop users wel in de smaak vallen denk ik. Iets voor Gretz bijvoorbeeld?
James Blake: gewoon een typisch James Blake-nummer, mijn favoriet van de drie singles
Freeway: toffe, expressieve rapper
True: spannende Kraftwerk-cover van Zwitsers PBR&B-duo
Juan Calderon: vleugje R&B met akoestische gitaar, van een in Chili geboren Nederlander (ofzo)
Scroobius Pip: Engelse rapper heeft een Congolose vluchteling geïntervieewd en daarop gebaseerd een nummer geschreven. Hij wordt bijgestaan door akoesfische gitaar en de Congolese zanger Didier Kisala. Soort combi van folk, rap, en Afrikaanse muziek, best uniek. Overigens voor een liefdadigheidsproject, het album The Long Road, waar ook Kindness - A Retelling vanaf komt, de nummer 1 van herman.


FKA twigs pakt trouwens in de negende week eindelijk de nummer 1-positie. Dwt zal een unicum zijn, maar Good to Love is ook een enorme groeier gebleken.
