De beste man is dan ook een ietwat miskend genie met een bijzonder veelzijdig oeuvre. Welk album je gaaf vindt hangt dan ook af van waar je van houdt. Ben je meer van de smachtende liefdesliedjes dan is een album als "Over" of, het toepasselijk getitelde,"The Love Songs" wat voor je. Ben je meer van de jazzy progrock dan is(met name het vroege) Van der graaf Generator werk wat voor je. Lust je daarbij ook wat post-punkachtige experimenten, dan moet je "The Future Now" en verder eens proberen. Toch meer een liefhebber van de betere jaren 80 'popalbums': check eens Patience. Zo kan ik eigenlijk wel even doorgaan( Hij is dan ook een van mijn helden).

Ik heb nog geen (hoge) beoordelingen voor albums uit 1973, 1974 en 1976. Kan iemand mij er nog een paar aanraden?

Het debuut van The Modern Lovers ('76) lijkt me wel iets voor jou. Doet het over het algemeen wel goed bij de iets jongere stemmers hier, waaronder ook mezelf.

Uit 1974 heb ik trouwens ook maar één echt hoge score, en dat is I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight van Richard & Linda Thompson. Ik zou zeggen, luister het titelnummer eens. Met een beetje fantasie kan je wel zeggen dat er een lichte 'Eefje en Aafke'-ness over hangt wat je wel zal smaken. Daarna eventueel de rest van de plaat, hoewel die iets minder toegankelijk is dan de single.

En wat betreft 1973... Ken je Pink Floyd al?

Tja Geert, weet niet of ik raak schiet bij je hoor, Zappa bijv, daar ben je geloof ik niet zo van...

Al heb ik van Stevie 'Songs in the Key of Life' uit 1976 misschien nog net iets hoger staan, simpelweg omdat er nog meer mooie muziek opstaat want hij duurt langer...maar ik kan altijd moeilijk kiezen tussen die twee. Beide albums kunnen bij mij in de top 10.

Uit 1976 moet je zoals hierboven al staat zeker The Modern Lovers proberen.

En iemand die zich hier vaak om het Nederlandsche lied bekommert, kan toch ook niet om Boudewijn de Groot - Hoe Sterk Is de Eenzame Fietser (1973) heen.

Al die tips hier! Als Geert ze maar niet allemaal non-stop na elkaar gaat draaien, hij luistert zich misschien halfdood!

The Dark Side Of The Moon is naast prog ook opvallend vlot en to the point. Het overstijgt alle progclichés. Geen nodeloos gepronk met concepten of instrumentbeheersing, geen luitsolo's van tien minuten, maar alles in dienst van de songs. Ik vind het soms zelfs meer een alternative rockplaat avant la lettre dan een progalbum.

En bovendien zo'n beetje het bekendste album ter wereld, samen met pakweg Thriller en Sgt. Peppers.

Ik ben normaal gesproken erg tolerant, maar ik vind dat iedere muziekliefhebber dat album toch ten minste één miezerige luisterbeurt moet gunnen. Gewoon een essential listen

Daar heb je eigenlijk wel gelijk in, dus ik ga er eens aan geloven. Scheelt dat ik 5 van de 10 nummers al wel eens beluisterd hebt. En dat er geen eindeloos lange draken zoals de Gekke Diamant op staan. Ik weet alleen niet of het vanavond nog lukt.
