Ik ben helaas nog steeds te ver van een conputer verwijderd om deze week mee te stemmen, maar kan wel alvast aangeven dat er in de tussentijd wat grote nieuwe singles zijn gereleast. Die van Four Tet (Planet) en zeker die van Bicep (Glue) mogen gelijk de top 20 in, als ik naar hun instagram kijk gaan Gorillaz een single uitbrengen van het geweldige Strobelight, en ook de nieuwste van Juana Molina en Maya Jane Coles mogen er zeker wezen!

Alex Lahey is niet de hoogste nieuwkomer, maar wel het geestigste clipjes van de week. Een redelijk cliché indierock nummer, maar dat vind ik dus heel leuk. De echte hoogste nieuwkomer is de tweede single uit de comeback plaat van de emo-band Rainer Maria. Al had ik eigenlijk nog nooit van deze groep gehoord tot enkele weken geleden.

- The War on Drugs: ik was een beetje afgeknapt op ze door hun vorige album, maar de laatste tijd voel ik ze wel weer. Zeker hun tragere singles zijn heerlijk om op weg te dromen.
- Tricky: spannende laatste single van de triphopveteraan en leuk dat zijn muze van Maxinquaye na ruim 20 jaar weer van de partij is.
- Altin Gün: Turkse psychedelica uit Amsterdam. Toevallig ook dit weekend live gezien op Duizel in het Park en dat was ook zeker de moeite waard. Fijn nieuw bandje.
- Belle & Sebastian: een vrij stevig geluid voor hun doen, maar ik ga dit nummer met de draaibeurt leuker vinden. Fantastisch refrein ook.
- Ariel Pink: dromerige, zweverige mijmerklanken. Er is inmiddels ook alweer een nieuwe single die helemaal far out is.
- Karl Hyde en Matthew Herbert: wat experimentele electronische track waarvan de tekst elke keer weer kriebelt ("i was born 9 months later"). Tof dat Karl Hyde buiten Underworld om ook toffe projecten heeft (eerder ook al met Brian Eno).

Week 28 - 7 augustus 2017 - top 30 - tipparade

De top van de lijst zit muurvast, maar daar onder zien we wel een aantal grote verschuivingen. David Ramirez doet het goed: Twins stijgt van 10 naar 6 en Watching From A Distance komt binnen op nummer 13. Ik ben erg benieuwd naar zijn nieuwe album.

Dat het nieuwe album van The War On Drugs een topper gaat worden is ondertussen een zekerheidje, want ook de vierde single is weer ijzersterk!

Tot slot bevalt de nieuwe single van Everything Everything me erg goed. Kan hij volgende week de top 5 binnen dringen?

Na 6 weken geeft Everything Now het stokje over aan Guilty Party, maar het valt wel op dat scores van boven de 300 er voorlopig niet meer inzitten. Wie weet hoe ver de nieuwe singles van Wolf Alice en The War on Drugs nog weten te reiken. Onderaan verlaat Blanche na 12 weken de lijst; een knappe prestatie van de Belgische songfestivaldeelnemer.

Deze week zijn we wat bescheiden met nieuwe binnenkomers. The Manchester Orchestra scoort een volgende hit met The Moth, een indienummer dat zowat alle registers optrekt. Een dichtgesmeerd geluid vol strijkers zorgt er wel voor dat er aan de dramatiek nauwelijks te ontkomen is. Ik kan me voorstellen dat het behoorlijk aankomt als je er in mee kunt gaan.

52 is Trent Reznor inmiddels en artistiek hoogtepunt The Downward Spiral ligt al bijna 25 jaar achter ons. Strikt genomen is de muziek ook niet heel erg veranderd behalve dat het wellicht niet meer zo urgent klinkt als destijds, maar toch blijft de muziek altijd uiterst spannend en genietbaar wat mij betreft. Less Than is de leadtrack van de nieuwe EP en draait vooral om een synthriffje dat me in de verte aan Blue Monday doet denken. Maar uiteindelijk zijn het toch de scheurende stukken en Trent's zang die me voor het nummer winnen.

Fleet Foxes scoren alweer met hun vierde single als ik het goed heb. Ditmaal is het ingetogen If You Need To, Keep Time On Me aan de beurt. Het is een klein gehouden nummer, repetitief met spaarzame arrangementen waarin de titel herhaaldelijk wordt gezongen. Ik kan me wel voorstellen dat mensen hier wel voor vallen, dit is weliswaar niet zo ambitieus als bv. Third of May, maar zeker zo mooi.

De meest opvallende nieuwe binnenkomer is ongetwijfeld Stombali van Ifriqiyya Electrique, waarin een eeuwenoud slavenritueel dat zou moeten zorgen voor een bepaalde trance wordt vermengd met heftige percussie en electronica. Dit is wel echt iets voor de mensen die het muzikale avontuur niet schuwen, daarom verheugt het me dit hier aan te treffen. Een toffe plaat om de nacht mee in te gaan!

Luister bijvoorbeeld naar alle noteringen van je mede-samenstellers, naar hun verschillende nummer 1-hits, of, als je wilt weten waar ik nog meer naar luister behalve the Strypes (en niet afgeschrikt wordt door een portie oude soul, country of Americana) naar mijn persoonlijke top 50.

Alvast spoilen wat hoog in mijn nieuwe top lijst gaat binnenkomen. Weer een geweldig nummer van voor mij tot nu toe het beste album van 2017.

Ik word haast een beetje gek van de hoeveelheid aanbod en dan gecombineerd met nummers van interessante bands die drie, vier tracks binnen een maand releasen.
Ik dacht dat ik veel kon hebben maar hier wordt de lijstjes autist in mij ontmaskerd.

Waarom drie tracks om uit te kiezen van Manchester Orchestra, waarom niet gewoon 1 track en dan na 8 weken de volgende? Het komt de eindresultaten ook al niet ten goede, zie wat er na drie weken gebeurt met The Strangest Thing van The War on Drugs als Pain zich alweer komt melden.

British India overigens met een prima nieuwe song. Australische band heeft niets met Engeland of India te maken, anders dan vermoedelijk nazaten van ver weg gedeporteerde Engelsen. Maar de muziek is alleraardigst, alle Engelse concurrenten kijken deze week in ieder geval achterin.

Maar ik snap je punt inderdaad, maar goed, dat is sowieso de "zwakte" van dit topic, dat het om singles moet gaan. (zegt niet dat ik het niet logisch vind dat het om singles gaat hier). Het hele principe singles werkt alleen niet meer zoals tien jaar geleden.

Dat is waar. Alleen, als we het in dit topic afspraken zouden kunnen maken over een volgorde, zouden de betreffende nummers tot hun volledige recht komen in de beoordeling er van. Of één nummer bij een groot aantal mumeërs in de top 10 staat of vier verschillende, leidt tot totaal andere noteringen in onze weeklijst.

Het probleem doet zich bij de albumlijst natuurlijk niet voor.

Kleine opruiming in de weeklijst, alsof er deze week plots weer nieuwe muziek is (en dan ben ik qua MuMe lijstjes nog maar tot ergens halverwege de maandag gekomen en heb ik mijn discover weekly lijstje ook nog niet eens geluisterd). Bovenin blijft het, wellicht daardoor, nog een beetje vaststaan, met topnummers die ik nog lang niet zat ben. Enige nieuwe liedje in de top10 is de nieuwe 'Someone'. Dat intro (van het liedje, niet het clipje, hoewel dat clipje eigenlijk ook wel) had (met was fantasie) ook van De Staat kunnen zijn. Ik vind het in ieder geval erg tof gedaan. Verder komt de nieuwe Airways natuurlijk ook in de lijst; komen er twee singles van The War on Drugs binnen; de laagste nieuwe binnenkomer komt uit de tiplijst. En tot slot nog Feel the Same van de mij onbekende zangeres Bully. Uit de tiplijst van Poetertjes.
