Heel gaaf nummer (ook in de coverversie van 16 Horsepower overigens) maar ik zag dat het alleen een promo is dan vind ik dat voor mijn lijst niet voldoende om als 'single' te beschouwen.

Op 9 natuurlijk het Tracey origineel, van vriendin en labelgenoot (stiff) Kirsty MacColl, die ook nog meezingt op de cover (maar dat zien we over 4 jaar wel).
Op 11 Stiff Little Fingers, zal voor het laatst zijn (oh wacht,m 1980 kan nog). Het succes van die band in dit topic valt me wat tegen, ook bij voorgaande jaren.
Op 19 The Motels, een ander nummer dan door dix aangedragen maar ook een geweldig nummer. De band komt sowieso de komende jaren vaker in mijn lijst.

Tussen 21 en 30 de afvallers voor de top 20 met oa Toto (I'lls supply the love), Suzi Quatro (she's in love with you), The Selecter (on my radio), Golden Earring (weekend love) en The Jam (eton rifles) samen met enkele die de top 50 wel gehaald hebben zoals XTC en Fischer Z.

Ik ben onder de indruk. Ik neem aan dat je de dans ook kon?

Nope, ik dans nog slechter dan de mannen van OMD, zeker met een 96-basser om mijn schouders.

Vreemd trouwens dat Map Ref boven Outdoor Miner uitkomt, qua Wire. Jullie wegen zijn ondoorgrondelijk.

Pijnlijk om een volledig blanke top 19 te zien in een jaar met zoveel goede zwarte muziek. Drie treffers in de top 20 is een nieuw dieptepunt.

Een pittige kanttekening, waar ik mij helaas wel in kan vinden. Zeker deze twee artiesten maakten mede 1979, Donna Summer had zelfs 7 (!) hits. Zij is niet terug te vinden bij de eerste 50... hoewel dat ook weer te maken kan hebben met de keuze tussen al die hits, zoals On the Radio, Hot Stuff, Bad Girls en zo voort.

Een groep als Earth Wind & Fire, één van de beste funk groepen ever, is hier volkomen genegeerd. Dit terwijl September in 1978 zelfs in de top 10 stond bij RYM (vraag mij niet hoe...). Toen was het ook de beurt aan megahit Fantasy en in dit jaar 1979 Boogie Wonderland. In geen velden of wegen te bekennen.

Kijk de aanwezigheid van The Clash & Wire kan ik nog volgen. Het zijn ook bekende namen. Maar een deel van die 19 is pure underground die in dit gezelschap blijkbaar wel een hele hoge voorkeur heeft. Als ik het niet leuk vond om per jaar een playlist te maken, zou ik vermoedelijk nu afhaken.

Ik had ze vorig jaar nog op 2, maar ik had er eerlijk gezegd niet zoveel van verwacht gezien de aandacht hier op de site.
Echt een prachtig ***** debuut album van die Ieren.

Een beetje een vergeten band, The Motels. Celia is een andere favoriet, Closets & Bullets is ook geweldig maar eigenlijk is het hele debuutalbum van enorme klasse.
