In de zomer van 1967 werd het vorige nummer in deze Meter, All You Need Is Love van The Beatles door Bobbie Gentry met Ode To Billie Joe in de VS van de eerste plek verdrongen. Het nummer hield de gemoederen in de VS flink bezig met wat Billie Joe en de ik- figuur nu precies van de Tallahassee Bridge gooide....En dat verbaasde Bob Dylan weer, die als reaktie op Ode To Billie joe, Clothes Lines Saga schreef. En Dylan zou Clothes Lines Saga opnemen met The Band en deze zou later op The Basement Tapes terecht zou komen.

Maar dit rondje gaat dus om Ode To Billie Joe en Mississippi Delta van Bobbie Gentry. Oorspronkelijk was Mississippi Delta als de A- Kant van de single bedoelt maar de radiostations gingen Ode To Billie Joe draaien en zo werd besloten Ode To Billie Joe tot A-Kant te bombarderen. En achteraf de juiste beslissing want Ode To Billie Joe werd een mega hit in de VS.
