18: This Soft Machine is een Australische discoproducer die debuteert op het Belgische Eskimo-label van Aeroplane. Hij heeft wat hulp gekregen van de gitarist van Darkside, iemand van Cut Copy en de dochter van Jack Nichelson. Muzikaal klinkt het erg als The Juan MacLean, dus wie dat graag hoort kan hier niet omheen.
22: Tensnake komt weer met een discohouseknaller in de stijl van zijn eerste bekende singles (zoals o.a. Coma Cat). Dit is niet zó goed, maar toch wel weer erg lekker.
29: LA Priest is een soort arty funky electropop van de vroegere zanger van Late of the Pier. Erg catchy plaatje.
31: Lakker is een stuk zwaarder, meer industriële techno met een sacraal geluid. Een soort mix tussen Nils Frahm en Vatican Shadow. Deze gaat volgende week nog flink stijgen, denk ik.
34: Sonnymoon heb ik al wat vaker beluisterd, maar meestal viel het kwartje niet zo. Bij dit minimale uiterst zwoele nummer deed dat het wel.
35: Django Django hebben hun surfgitaren weer van stal gehaald. Bijzonder leuk bandje blijft dit toch, al vind ik de singles nog niet dermate geweldig dat ik het album al beluisterd heb.

Ik ga proberen om de Afrekening van week 24 vandaag te posten.
Even een reminder aan JoaMuse, Aroentje, Dance Lover, kemm en Poeha die waarschijnlijk nog met een lijstje komen. Het zou fijn zijn als dat vandaag mocht lukken, maar ik wacht sowieso tot iedereen zijn lijst geplaatst heeft.

Veel nieuwe Algiers heeft Arrie ook maar deze vind ik toffer. Is hun laatste ook en denk hierbij aan Gang of Four apart dansbaar en heel lekker. Kill it Kid heeft veel invloeden White Stripes meets PJ Harvey. Prinzhorn Dance School is coldwave, minimal maar erg aanstekelijk. Dan de single van lonely the Brave geweldig nummer zelfs een tikkeltje psychedelisch. En dan Joy Division reincarnation Ceremony hoor en oordeel.

05. Class Actress komt na een kleine 4 jaar afwezigheid terug met een perfect synthpopliedje, geproduceerd door niemand minder dan Giorgio Moroder. Een verslavend geluid. Ook wel iets voor herman denk ik.
13. Shura is nog zo'n recent synthpopfenomeen dat tot nu toe alleen maar goede singles heeft uitgebracht. De 7 minuten gaan als een roes voorbij.
14. Princess Chelsea heb ik ontdekt via de nominatie van DjFrankie in het Song van het Jaar-topic. Van dit soort zoete dreampop krijg ik in principe nooit genoeg.
21. Splinternieuwe single van Sue the Night, een van de leukste Nederlandse indiepopbands van dit moment.
23. Neon Indian maakt chillwave op zijn allerchillst. Heerlijke single voor de zomer.
26. Met dank aan herman. Heeft inderdaad redelijk veel weg van The Juan MacLean, een van mijn favoriete nu-disco groepen. Dit nummer maakt me benieuwd naar meer werk.
31. De laatste single van Best Coast' uitstekende derde plaat. Onweerstaanbare garagerock, zeker in combinatie met de clip. Klinkt ook een beetje als de Green Day van de jaren 90.
35. Zoals Sunderland al aangeeft de eerste echt leuke single van My Love Is Cool. Lekker fel.

Een paar interessante nieuwe binnenkomers:
Satellite stories: een buitengewoon aardige cover van Calvin Harris. Speciaal opgenomen door de Satellite Stories voor een Finse compilatie, Soliti. Na een wat tegenvallend derde album geven de jongens hier aan ook andere wegen te kunnen bewandelen, zonder door het ijs te zakken.
Ducktails: ik zou mijn band nooit zo noemen, maar het is mooie akoestische indie, een beetje laidback en doet in muzikale zin heel erg in de verte een beetje aan The Smiths denken, behalve dan de vocalen.
Vant: ook hier kort en krachtig maar dan in een beduidend hoger tempo, vooral ook wat steviger en een sterke melodie.
Lonely the Brave en Muse: ook hier boeiende stevigheid en volgende nummers van een recent album.

Het duurde even, maar leuk dat Sprinter van Torres uiteindelijk door meer mensen is opgepikt. Geweldig nummer.

Leuk dat ik Algiers nu ook in een paar andere lijstjes zie verschijnen, ahoewel met een andere single. Black Eunuch is ook sterk, maar wat mij betreft niet zo geweldig als Blood en Irony. Utility. Pretext. Die laatste pakt bij mij nu de koppositie.
Of ze dat een tweede week kunnen volhouden is maar de vraag, want Rapsody, Nicolas Jaar en Joey Bada$$ zijn flink in aantocht. Joey Bada$$ is nog niet zo veel langsgekomen in mijn afspeellijstje, daarom 'slechts' binnengekomen op een negentiende plek, wát een fantastische single is dat. DJ Premier schotelt weer eens een prachtige beat voor, en Joey maakt daar gretig gebruik van. Mooie samenwerking tussen een veteraan en een jonge nieuwkomer,
Sonnymoon blijft scoren in mijn top 40, deze keer met Transparent Times, waarvan vooral de bijgevoegde live-clip sterk is. In een ogenschijnlijk klein kamertje zie je de muzikanten gepassioneerd het nummer spelen, met een heel knusse en intieme sfeer. Ik vind de live-versie eigenlijk zelfs beter en het beste wat ik ooit van Sonnymoon gehoord heb.
Sophie Hunger zorgt weer vroor de vrouwelijke folk die vaak in mijn lijstje te vinden is. Supermoon is een prachtig liedje, met een donker randje. Veelbelovende ontdekking, deze zangeres.
Sef moet je vooral niet te serieus nemen, want dat doet ie zelf al helemaal niet. Wel mag hij zijn onzinteksten over een knallende productie van FS Green & SirOJ rappen, waardoor het allemaal op z'n plaats valt. Doet wel wat denken aan De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig.
Jessy Lanza komt met erg mooie PBR&B, die ergens in het midden tussen Jessie Ware en FKA Twigs ligt. Spannend en sensueel, maar ook sfeervol. Sterke week trouwens, qua binnenkomers. Er komt veel moois uit!
