Gemaakt voor succes en ook hier weer gelukt. Geel vanaf de start. Onee na vier lijstjes want mijn nummer twee moest eerst worden ingehaald.
Album dat voorafgegaan werd door wat drummerperikelen: originele drummer (in de zin van: erbij sinds ze punkband The Self Abusers waren) Brian McGee was vertrokken en opvolger Kenny Hyslop was na 5 maanden alweer weg (nadat hij wel de nieuwe single had ingedrumd). Mike Ogletree werd ingezet als verse kracht en drumde op een drietal albumtracks (de nummers 2, 5 en 6).
De reeds uitgebrachte, genoemde single, Promised You A Miracle, deed het goed in de charts en gaf het al aanwezige zelfvertrouwen een nieuwe boost: eindelijk uit de schaduw en in het spotlicht!
Producer Pete Walsh werd op Burchills voordracht verkozen (hij produceerde Penthouse and Pavement) en deze vond het drummen van Ogletree achterblijven bij de skills van de rest van de band. Hij introduceerde sessiedrummer Mel Gaynor en de hitformatie was compleet.
Misschien ben ik wel te hard voor deze plaat, maar ik kan hem echt niet meer horen. Maar dat ie de gemene deler is snap ik heel goed.

Geen zin om het na te zoeken, maar ik vermoed wel dat New Gold Dream de beste nummer 1 tot nu toe is in dit topic - ik had hem zelf op 3. Er staan een paar iets minder urgente nummers op en van de hits is Glittering Prize de mindere, maar Big Sleep en King Is White and in the Crowd zullen hier nooit gaan vervelen.
Thriller is waarschijnlijk van alle platen die ik nooit van A tot Z gehoord heb het album dat ik het beste ken; het zou me niet verbazen als de paar titels die me zo even niks zeggen bij beluistering ook gewoon bekend zijn. Moest ik daar maar eens achteraan dan? Mwah, voorlopig vind ik alleen Billie Jean en met enige goede wil Beat It echt goed.
Niet alle albums zijn hier uiteraard bekend, maar de meeste artiesten die de top-25 haalden doen wel op zijn minst een vaag belletje rinkelen. The Dream Syndicate (nr. 17) is daar dan weer een uitzondering op.
Enfin, uit mijn eigen lijst had ik er 18 al weggegeven. De resterende 2 en de volgorde:
