1989: Onrust in Oost Europa, gedurende het jaar worden hier en daar wetten aangenomen die de burgers meer vrijheden geven. De PTT privatiseert. Hirohito sterft. Vanwege De Duivelsversen spreekt de Ayatollah de fatwa uit over schrijver Rushdie. Fusiepartij Groen Links wordt opgericht. Langdurige studentenopstand op Plein van de Hemelse Vrede wordt door Chinese overheid zeer hardhandig neergeslagen en eindigt in bloedbad. Bekerwedstrijd Liverpool-Nottingham eindigt door overmatige drukte gevolgd door paniek in de dood van 96 Liverpoolsupporters door het gedrang (Hillsboroughramp). Vliegtuig met onder andere veel Surinaamse voetballers stort neer bij vliegveld Zanderij, slechts 11 inzittenden overleven het. Hongarije opent de muur en laat zeer veel mensen van Oost naar West vluchten (veel DDR'ers). 9 november valt de Berlijnse muur. 25 december worden Ceaucescu en zijn vrouw geëxecuteerd.

Aan mij zal het niet liggen. Mijn stem heeft Lhasa zeker

1989 was een waanzinnig jaar; de wereld stond op instorten, er gebeurde zoveel in dat jaar.
Verder de opkomst van Britpop, Crossover en gitaarrock.
The Cure maakte hun beste album, en deric zette alles op tape wat hij ontdekte.
Voor mij ook het jaar dat ik punkrock ontdekte (Bad Religion), Nick Cave leerde waarderen, welke op een geleend cassettebandje van een vriend van mij stond, met daarop ook Ramones (Something To Believe In), Fatal Flowers (Well Baby), DAF (Der Mussolini), Replacements (Alex Chilton)en Sisters of Mercy (First and Last and Always). Helaas niet meer in bezit.
De tijd dat ik mijn walkman afwisselde met mijn discman, en de periode dat ik de meeste muziek ontdekte.
En dat in het tijdperk van voor internet.

Slecht nieuws, was hier een van de laatste afvallers voor de top 20.

Wanneer is het nou het einde van de lente, wat zeg ik... Ik bedoel zomer, eeehh nee herfst. Ach nee winter natuurlijk
