Niet te doen, dit. De jaren tachtig zijn zo'n beetje mijn favoriete decennium, ik houd van veel muziekstijlen en ken heel veel muziek uit die periode. Ik ga mezelf dus straks ongetwijfeld voor de kop slaan omdat ik bepaalde titels vergeten ben. Maar goed, uit het hoofd, ééntje per artiest (anders is het helemaal een onmogelijke opgave) en in een redelijk willekeurige volgorde (want ik ben niet zo'n lijstjesman):

Daar heb je het al. Als ik de lijstjes van andere users gebruik, denk ik meteen: hoe kon ik nou The Police, The Alan Parsons Project, Tears for Fears en Joe Jackson vergeten? Zo'n lijstje is wat mij betreft dus probleemloos uit te breiden tot een top 50. Komt-ie:

Is eigenlijk niet te doen. Zelfs met maar 1 album per artiest is het al moeilijk om tot max. 30 te gaan. Ik heb ook alleen die albums genomen die ik zelf fysiek in bezit heb..

Ik heb mijn top 30 toch nog enigszins aangepast door Joe Jackson en John Hiatt eraan toe te voegen. Helaas, Michael McDonald haalt dat niet, ondanks de onmiskenbare kwaliteit van deze verzamelaar. Die brengt niet alleen het beste van zijn solocarriere tot dan toe samen, maar laat zich ook beluisteren als een regulier album met alleen maar topnummers.

Ik heb trouwens nog twee andere verzamelaars in mijn lijstje: van Echo & the Bunnymen en van de Frank Boeijen Groep. Van de laatste zou geen enkel regulier album sterk genoeg zijn voor een notering, maar deze verzamelaar is near-perfect. Voor Echo geldt in zekere zin hetzelfde, al zou ik wellicht Ocean rain een plaatsje hebben gegund als deze verzamelaar niet voorhanden was.
