Wat een week! Zoveel potentiele gegarandeerde nieuwe binnenkomers heb ik nog nooit gehad in m'n Excel sheet. Hoezo gegarandeerd? Niks daarvan. Kon er met moeite vijf kwijt, anders kan ik volgende week niets laten binnenkomen.

Kort en bondig:
Een fraaie nieuwe single van de beste Nederlandstalige band allertijden (Het Goede Doel) moet er gewoon in.
Daarnaast kan dan eindelijk het beste nummer van Alides & co de lijst binnenkomen.
Vervolgens een soort van toevallig "eerbetoon" aan de ons deze week ontvallen Chuck Berry in de persoon van een andere rock 'n roll grootheid Little Richard. Kende dit nummer nog niet. Maar zeer herkenbaar in z'n soort.
Uiteraard mag de ZZ Top powerballad Rough Boy absoluut niet ontbreken.
Maar grote verrassing deze week was toch wel de ontdekking van het beresterke Shot in the Dark van good old Ozzy Osbourne. Waanzinnig nummer. Die gaat voorlopig in de replay stand.

Een top 10 met maar één zakker, dat betekent dat de druk aan de top wordt opgevoerd.

Vijf binnenkomers, waarvan vier van gerenommeerde artiesten en één van een nieuweling aan het hitparadefront; en laat dat nu de hoogste binnenkomer zijn. De Del Fuegos waren een Amerikaanse band met een roots-achtig rockgeluid. Op I still want you komt het desolate gevoel van de zanger goed over. Helaas zou het bij deze ene bijna-hit blijven.

Op 26 Chris Rea met een van zijn talloze singles, altijd herkenbaar door 's mans schorre stemgeluid, en dit keer met een redelijk vlot tempo. Hier kun je je geen buil aan vallen.

Op 33 de tweede solosingle van superster-in-wording George Michael. Careless whisper was zwoel-romantisch maar vooral ook poppy; Different corner is veel kaler, triester, maar nog steeds romantisch. Wonderlijk eigenlijk dat dit opnieuw een grote nummer 1-hit werd; het muzikale idioom is gewaagd te noemen. Stem en uiterlijk van de zanger hielpen natuurlijk wel.

Op 37, bescheiden positie dus, komt Prince binnen met het falsetto gezongen Kiss. Aan de ene kant een aanstekelijk deuntje waarbij het moeilijk stilzitten is, aan de andere kant gaat het al snel tegenstaan en denk je: zing toch eens normaal man!

Op 38, nog bescheidener, Depeche Mode, een band die in mijn beleving in MuMe-kringen behoorlijk overschat wordt: wel talloze aardige singletjes, maar zelden overrompelend mooi. Ook dit is weer degelijk opgebouwd, maar het blijft niet echt hangen.

Kiss: ik vind die versie van Tom Jones beter, dat zegt wel genoeg denk ik...

Tipparade: week 12 van 1986.

1. Whistle - Just Buggin'
Een ééndagsvlieg met een redelijk grappig rapnummer. Geen hoogvlieger maar het mag er wel zijn.
Cijfer: 6

18. Queen - A Kind of Magic
Nog één van de betere Queen-hits door het vlotte ritme en natuurlijk is er de krachtige zang van Freddie Mercury. Schitterende gitaar ook van Bryan May.
Cijfer: 8

25. Time Bandits - I Won't Steal Away
Hun vroegere hits vind ik beter, dit is mij te overgeproduceerd met een overdaad aan synths en syndrums en het nummer is ook vrij clichématig.
Cijfer: 4,5

26. The Star Sisters - Just Another Night
Hun Andrew Sisters-medley was veel leuker, dit is een doorsnee popsong dat geen moment beklijft.
Cijfer: 4

27. Mike And The Mechanics - Silent Running
Het heeft iets Genesis-achtig, niet verwonderlijk want geschreven door Mike Rutherford (als Phil Collins dit zingt klikt het écht Genesis). Degelijke, eigentijdse poprocksong waarbij de intro misschien iets te lang duurt en vocaal (Paul Carrack) zit het ook goed.
Cijfer: 7,5

28. Anny Schilder - Mandola Mandoline
Klinkt nog sterk als BZN met wat melige en kitscherige arrangementen al zit de sfeer er wel in. Maar van iemand die uit de band stapt om solo te gaan verwacht je toch beter dan een aftreksel van haar vroegere band.
Cijfer: 4,5

29. Het Goede Doel - Ik Dans, dus ik Besta
Een beetje te tijdsgebonden geproduceerd maar vooral tekstueel een fijne song met gepaste blazers en een refrein die blijft hangen.
Cijfer: 7,5

30. Mental as Anything - Live it up
Waarom dat destijds geen hit is geworden begrijp ik niet. Nochtans een popklassieker die je nog regelmatig hoort met prettige melodie en ritme.

Over de nieuwe binnenkomers (4 stuks in totaal) mogen we ook niet echt klagen en komt Talk Talk binnenstormen op nummer 6 met Living In Another World.

Hounds Of Love is alweer de 3e single van het gelijknamige album van Kate Bush, maar komt het wat bij betreft niet echt in de buurt van de vorige twee, althans dat is mijn bescheiden mening

Bryan Ferry krijgt medewerking van David Gilmour en dat is volgens mij best te horen in het mooie Is Your Love Strong Enough?

The Blow Monkeys scoren hun "grootste" hit in Nederland wat de laatste nieuweling is in de lijst met Digging Your Scene.

Bij deze kondig ik ook gelijk aan dat 1986 mijn laatste jaar word dat ik actief ben in deze topic, dus tijd genoeg om een opvolger te zoeken die eventueel de weeklijst wilt overnemen?

Ach ja, de Moody Blues! Als jonge band van iets van 20 jaar oud, werden ze toen al gezien als dino's en zeker niet meer van deze tijd (1986).
Ze bestaan 30 jaar later nog steeds en jonger zijn ze er natuurlijk niet op geworden. Wel mooi voor het sentiment.

Simple Minds draven gewoon door. Het album Once Upon a Time wordt door veel critici, die van het eerste uur hielden, behoorlijk afgebrand. Maar ik hoor hier de volgende prima track van dit eveneens prima album.

Ja, 1986 wordt mijn laatste jaar hier, dus Trio Hellenique kan verder rustig achterover leunen.
Ik maak dit jaar wel netjes af hoor wat dus ook geldt voor de weeklijst en de jaarlijst.

Mam staat nog op 1, maar The Call komt onstuitbaar aandenderen op 2. Tot mijn blijdschap zie ik deze week opeens The Call ook bij mij collega's binnenkomen, al begrijp ik nog niet goed waarom dat niet eerder gebeurde.

Zes binnenkomers weer, waarvan hofleverancier Simple Minds de hoogste is op 20. Met All the things she said leveren ze opnieuw een puike popsingle met gospelinvloeden af, die inmiddels mijlenver van hun originele geluid afstaat.

Op 26 Suzanne Vega (met Joe Jackson op piano) met haar inmiddels vertrouwd rakende sound.

Op 29 een band waarvan destijds hard werd geroepen dat de sound, en zeker de zang, nogal op The Police leek. Dat klopt ook wel, maar Your love is toch een prima rocksingle met eigen bestaansrecht.

Op 33 een plaat voor het goede doel, en een van de meest onwaarschijnlijke combinaties uit de popmuziek ooit: de brave Cliff Richard met het zootje ongeregeld van The Young Ones. Extra grappig/toevallig is dat The Young Ones tegelijk ook een bekende single van Cliff Richard is. Maar ze coveren Living doll, een andere oude hit van Cliff, en wel met zoveel humor dat je er nog steeds om moet glimlachen als je hem terughoort. 'Here comes the instrumental break'. -'Great Cliff, which instruments do you want us to break?'

Op 34 een artiest die maar zelden in mijn top 40 heeft gestaan, en bij deze aarzelde ik ook wel, niet omdat hij niet goed genoeg was, maar omdat het een cover is van een liedje dat in 1977 ook al in mijn top 20 had gestaan. Lotte van Stephan Sulke is nog steeds een machtig mooie, ontroerende plaat, en Benny Neyman slaagt erin het gevoel van het Duitse origineel goed over te brengen.

Op 36 een song die bij enkelen hier al genoteerd geweest is, Field work van Sakamoto en Dolby. Hij is dus wel op de Nederlandse radio gedraaid, maar niet veel. Een grote hit in mijn lijst zal het dus niet worden, maar ook klinkt hij toch niet zo sterk als de namen doen vermoeden.

Tipparade: week 13 van 1986.

1. George Michael - A Different Corner
Als je het mij vraagt zijn beste nummer. Ingetogen en emotioneel met gepaste begeleiding waarbij hij zijn stem als instrument gebruikt. Grandioos!
Cijfer: 9,5

13. Anita Meyer & Lee Towers - We've Got Tonight
Ik zie het nut niet in van zulke kleffe covers die niets, maar dan totaal niets toevoegen aan de muziekwereld. Het werd terecht ook geen hit.
Cijfer: 3,5

18. Pal - Talk We Don't
Een vergeten nummer van een vergeten band. Buiten de eigentijdse productie heeft het te weinig om het lijf en het blijft ook niet hangen.
Cijfer: 4

22. Nicole - Don't You Want My Love
Een aardig en lekker swingend dance-nummer hoewel de productie hier ook erg tijdsgebonden is. Nadien niets meer van haar gehoord.
Cijfer: 6

26. Phil Carmen - Moonshine Still
De invloeden van Dire Straits liggen dik bovenop, ik zou bijna zweren dat Mark Knopfler het nummer heeft geschreven. Sfeervol is het wel met zwoele sax.
Cijfer: 7

27. Howard Jones - No One Is To Blame
Howard Jones brengt degelijke singer-songwriterspop maar van synths voorzien. Vrij smaakvol zoals de percussie en een pakkend refrein.
Cijfer: 7,5

28. Dolly Dots - Dreaming of You
Geef mij maar hun campy hits van de beginperiode (laten wij zeggen de periode 1979-1984), dit nummer mist pit en hier komen de vocalen ook niet tot hun recht.
Cijfer: 4

29. Sue Chaloner - Don't Try To Change Me
Ook een nummer niet ongeschonden de tand des tijds heeft doorstaan al zit er een portie soul in die bij momenten wat geforceerd overkomt. Aanvaardbaar zonder meer.
Cijfer: 6

30. John Cougar Mellencamp - R.O.C.K. In The USA
Een beetje clichématige rock en ook wat schatplichtig aan Bruce Springsteen maar dit klinkt opwindend en de natuurlijke productie is een verademing.
Cijfer: 7,5
