Tipparade: week 21 van 1986.

1. Mai Tai - Turn Your Love Around
Deze dames kunnen best zingen (hoewel hun soul soms geforceerd overkomt) maar de productie die typisch is voor die tijd is een minpunt.
Cijfer: 5

10. Marvin Gaye - I Heard It Through The Grapevine
Zie week 3 van 1969, onverwoestbare soulklassieker.
Cijfer: 9

23. Maarten Peters & The Dream - After the Party
Kende ik niet, vrij vervelend nummer met te pretentieuze zang en matige uitspraak.
Cijfer: 4

24. Satisfy - For The Longest Time
Een cover van Billy Joel, lijkt teveel op het origineel zonder iets toe te voegen behalve dat de zang wat vlakker is.
Cijfer: 5,5

25. I've Got The Bullets - In The Middle Of The Night
Een Nederlandse band die nu door velen vergeten is. Niet onaardig, toch wat betreft de zang en melodie maar te glad (neigt teveel naar AOR) en de titel wordt teveel herhaald.
Cijfer: 5,5

26. The Cure - Boys Don't Cry (New Voice - New Mix)
Verschilt tenslotte weinig van het origineel (misschien positief aan die remix). Hoe dan ook is het een sterk Cure-nummer op elk vlak.
Cijfer: 8

27. Icehouse - No Promises
Deze Australische band heb ik steeds met Roxy Music vergeleken door de (gladde) sound en de zang al halen ze natuurlijk niet het peil van deze band. Degelijke popsong met fraaie zang.
Cijfer: 7,5

28. Trea Dobbs - 'n Kus Van U Meneer
Een melodie die mij bekend in de oren klinkt (al kende ik dat nummer niet) en flauwe rijmelarij, meer stelt dat niet voor.
Cijfer: 3,5

29. Black Uhuru - Great Train Robbery
Ook de reggae ontsnapte niet aan die vervloekte syndrums. Al is het op zichzelf geen slecht nummer al duurt het wat te lang.
Cijfer: 6

30. Genesis - Invisible Touch
Beslist één van hun zwakste singles, is toch wel erg banaal voor hun doen. En waarom ook hier die mechanische syndrums met zo'n goede drummer in hun gelederen?
Cijfer: 4,5

Ik snap dat het weer niet echt meehelpt om met nieuwe lijsten te komen en om er eens lekker voor te gaan zitten, maar van vigil, luigifort en Poeha moeten de nieuwe lijsten nog binnenkomen

Vooralsnog geen vuiltje aan de lucht voor Peter Gabriel die met zijn 78 punten de concurrentie op behoorlijke afstand houdt.

Het is een "tijdje" stil geweest rond The Smiths, maar deze week is het weer zover en komen ze binnenknallen op nummer 5 met hun nieuwe single BigMouth Strikes Again.

De overige twee nieuwkomers Heart en Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark maken voorzichtig hun entree op 18 en 19.

Chris Rea en Felt komen de Top 10 binnen en waar Depeche Mode aan het oprukken is naar plaats 4.

The Call maakt de welbekende vrije val door te zakken van nummer 6 naar 17 en kan wel eens met de laatste week bezig zijn?

Laten we het er op houden, dat in deze hitte van de laatste meidagen de gevestigde orde uitgebreid kans zag om zwaar toe te slaan. Ook al waren de artiesten 31 jaar geleden natuurlijk nog behoorlijk aan de top van hun kunnen en populariteit, ook in de hitlijsten.

Enfin, het luistert allemaal lekker weg zal ik maar zeggen, zonder dat het 5***** niveau ergens wordt gehaald. Misschien had ik nog moeten wachten tot na het onweer....

Ik heb verder helemaal geen hekel aan B Joel maar dit is wel een heel matige single

Verder toch wel een paar hele fraaie singles

Zeker wel 1x 5***** in de vorm van topper Michael McDonald. Mogelijk mijn nummer 1 van 1986. Moet nog even de rest van het jaar afwachten natuurlijk.

Ben een liefhebber van Joel, maar Modern Woman is inderdaad niet bepaald zijn sterkste. Hij zal dit jaar echter hard terugslaan rondom week 30 Maar denk niet dat er veel medestanders zullen zijn, die dat nummer hoog zullen klasseren

Doel je op Matter of Trust? Want die gaat het bij mij ook wel aardig doen verwacht ik

1. Doobie Brothers - What A fool Believes
Dateert uit 1979, werd in 1986 heruitgebracht. Zit smaakvol in elkaar met prachtige, soulvolle zang van Michael McDonald.
Cijfer: 8,5

13. Normaal - Hoe-J'T Ok Doet
Bluesy song met uiteraard de Achterhoekse dialect wat steeds hun handelsmerk is. Zoals steeds ook simpel en vermakelijk maar net niet plat.
Cijfer: 6,5

17. Depeche Mode - A Question Of Lust
Ik vind vreemd genoeg enkel een live-versie. Hoe dan ook, prachtige emotionele synthipopsong met diepgang van een band die definitief volwassen is geworden.
Cijfer: 8,5

27. Bananarama - Venus
Covers van overbekende popklassiekers ... zelden een goed idee. Deze versie kan totaal niet tippen aan het origineel van Shocking Blue wegens vlakker en mechanischer.
Cijfer: 4,5

28. Voices Of America - Hands Across America
Erg standaard AOR-ballad met een opgezwollen productie zoals ze ook op sommige platen van Meatloaf voorkwam. Meebrulbaar maar met weinig wol.
Cijfer: 4,5

29. Het Goede Doel - Alles Geprobeerd
Eén van de betere Nederpopbands van de jaren '80 en dat bewijst Het Goede Doel met deze mooie zijn het wat te uitgesponnen popsong. De live-versie vind ik overigens iets beter.
Cijfer: 7,5

30. Chris Norman - Midnight Lady
Een solohit van Smokie-zanger met kenmerkende hese stem. De Smokie-hits in de jaren '70 vind ik beter (hier mis ik hun samenzang wat) maar dit is een gevoelige, net niet te zoete ballad.

It's Immaterial alweer 4 weken op 1, en een duidelijke opvolger is nog niet in zicht.

Wel zes binnenkomers. Op 21 David Bowie met weer zo'n geweldige eighties-single Underground (uit de fantasyfilm Labyrinth). Bij eerste beluistering valt alles al op zijn plaats, opbouwende coupletten, overtreffend refrein, sterke koortjes en levendigheid.

Op 27 de (bij mijn weten) tweede single van The Communards (Jimmy Somerville en Richard Coles). De grote hits moesten nog komen, maar de kwaliteit is des te hoger: de band weet opzwepende siwngende popmuziek te paren aan zinvolle, betrokken teksten.

Op 32 een opmerkelijke samenwerking tussen Heaven 17 en (sixties) soulzanger Jimmy Ruffin, vooral bekend van het weergaloze What becomes of the broken hearted. Heerlijke sophisticated soulpop, uiteraard gevoelig gezongen.

Op 33 laten The Ramones horen dat het niet allemaal feestpunkpop is; Something to believe in is zowel tekstueel als muzikaal van een andere orde, en mij bevalt dat veel beter. De tubular bells-achtige klanken geven nog meer allure aan de song.

Op 37 gaat OMD steeds meer op de vertrouwde, minder spannende toer; het is nog prima te beluisteren, maar je gaat het niet snel uit jezelf opzetten.

Op 38 dan een internationaal klinkende ballad van Neerlands hardrocktrots Helloise. Toch ontbreekt kennelijk iets aanstekelijks, want een hit wordt het niet.

Een "aardige" opruiming in de lijst mede door de 5 nieuwkomers deze week en twee daarvan komen direct de Top 10 binnen Genesis en Het Goede Doel en is het ook wel weer eens leuk om een product uit eigen land te zien gloriëren, want zo vaak komt dit helaas niet voor

The Housemartins met het aanstekelijke en vrolijke Happy Hour zien we op 11 binnenkomen, de zomerhit in optima forma is van Matia Bazar met Ti Sento en Erasure in hun bekende stijl sluit de rij nieuwkomers met Oh L'Amour.

Dat je ook zomaar uit de lijst kan verdwijnen, terwijl je vorige week nog in de Top 10 bewonderen was "bewijzen" de Pet Shop Boys (vorige week op 6) en GTR (vorige week op 7) oftewel het kan snel gaan ......

Een 'gevecht' lijkt aanstaande om de nummer 1 positie houdt de Sledgehammer stand of heeft de Bigmouth het volgende week voor het zeggen?

luigifort, misschien handig om volgende keer alleen de nummers 21 t/m 40 te plaatsen dan is je lijst nog een beetje actueel

Soms zijn er nog obscuur uitgebrachte singles in landen die nu alsnog naar voren mochten komen. Of er was een resoluut verschil tussen land A of B in de keuze welk nummer werd uitgebracht.

Van de single We work the black seam van Sting had ik nog nooit gehoord maar het is uiteindelijk toch werkelijk uitgebracht, getuige ook nog het gevonden hoesje.
Het was natuurlijk al een succesvol album en de singles die werden uitgebracht vielen steeds minder op. Maar toch, daar hoeven we nu geen rekening (meer) mee te houden.

Dan wordt volgende week in onze contreien de single Friends will be friends uitgebracht van Queen. Persoonlijk geef ik echter de voorkeur aan het elders uitgebrachte One year of love. Volgens Rate your Music, die het kan weten, werd de soundtrack uitgebracht op 4 juni.

Dat de zomer in aantocht is weten we inmiddels al is daar vandaag weinig van te merken .... en dat betekend ook zomerse plaatjes en die komen we tegen op 28 van de Italiaanse band Scotch met Mirage dat een heerlijk meezingrefrein heeft en je in vakantiestemming brengt.

Het nummer Pictures uit 1987 mag er wat mij betreft ook zijn en kent ook een sterk refrein.

De Nederlandse band Savan kon ik zelf niet, maar waar zouden we zijn zonder de verrukkelijke 15
Een lekker voortkabbelend plaatje dat fijn wegluistert al lijken de invloeden toch wel bij Everything But The Girl vandaan te komen.

Ik heb twee nummers 35 zie ik ineens
