Flinke veranderingen in weeklijst 6, welkom.

Met REM als ruim overwinnende nummer 1, Stand torent ver boven de rest uit en lijkt zeker meer weken op 1 te gaan krijgen dan Orange crush dat deze week geheel verdwenen is, vorige week nog op 5.
Eigenlijk is van 5 tot 10 1 groot middenveld waar het maar net eraan ligt of 1 speler meer een plaat opneemt of eruit gooit. Daarbij zijn Duran Duran, Julian Cope en Gary Moore subtop.

Vier frisse nieuwe platen hebben de 9 nieuwe lijstjes opgeleverd met maar meteen op 10 de band rond de charismatische Paul Carrack.
The living years met veel emotie en kerstgehalte knalt er hoog in, een beetje de signature song van de groep (of toch Over my shoulder). Gooi er nog een kinderkoor in en iedereen is om.

Heel wat anders dan op 16 waar we de gladde skyradiopop van Will To Power vinden.
Baby I love you way zingen ze samen en deze brave Amerikaanse liefdesballad zal niemand tegen de borst stoten.
Dat kan je wel gebeuren als je tegen de housediva op 19 ingaat, Respect eist Adeva en dat zal ze krijgen ook met kenmerkende freestyle housebeats die veel crossover houseplaten in 1989 van de garagevloer gebruiken,
En net op de rand onze vrienden van Prefab Sprout die ook wat tougher over komen nu met meer straight to the point rock zonder meisjes die meezingen, een kalfje naar hun hand.

Totale failure met de tips voorspelling van vorige week, net als The Sundays I can't be sure maar ik gok op deze en anders mevrouw kuiltjes in de wang We'll be together '89

Weer zes binnenkomers, van diverse pluimage...
Op 23 Morrissey met één van zijn bekendste solosingles.
Op 24 René Froger ( ja wel) met zijn enige entry ooit in mijn lijsten. Helemaal onverklaarbaar is het niet, want dit nummer is geschreven en ingespeeld door Het Goede Doel, alleen de zang is van René. Het begin alleen is al het weirdste wat je ooit in het Op volle toeren-genre zal tegenkomen. Tekstueel erg sterk en nog steeds een klassieker.
Op 32 moeder en dochter The Judds met een country klassieker Why not me, in een tijd dat country in NL volledig uit was.
Op 33 gaat Joe Jackson op de bigband toer. Grappig, maar haalt het niet bij eerder werk.
Op 34 beroepsmelancholicus Black (die van Wonderful life); hier wordt het iets vrolijker, maar zijn stem maakt het toch weer één en al droefenis (ik bedoel dit positief).
En op 36 een vergeten plaatje van Dan Reed Network. Veel Amerikaanser kan een plaat niet klinken, en dit bedoel ik voornamelijk negatief...

Deze week vijf mooie binnenkomers, de hoogste is voor The Waterboys, prachtig keltisch werkje. Daarnaast weer nieuw werk van Deacon Blue met misschien niet hun beste nummer maar ik mag het altijd graag horen. Tante Kim is ook weer van de partij met een vergeten maar prima single (Close stond vol met singles) en een fijne Paul Haig kon ik bij luigifort opppikken. Dan heb ik nog Kon Kan over, tja dat mag je met recht een echte GP noemen. Ik gekozen voor de lange versie.

week 7 van 1989 met weer een stationaire top 5 maar wel een Raochford en Living in a Box die de top 10 in knallen. Als dat maar goed gaat... Overigens slechts 2 binnenkomers.
Hoogste binnenkomer, moet dat nou dacht ik nog toen ik de lijst zag.... ik weet niet meer wat de gelegenheid was, vast een re-release van de film, (op video?) de soundtrack op cd of iets dergelijks. Maar goed, als ik het dan zo draai dan is het eigenlijk toch wel een lekker nummer.
Maar dan Texas. Ik denk dat ik die in de Miniparade hoorde, heerlijk nummer. De band maakte nog veel fraaie muziek, wie ook de lijsten van 1993/94 heeft gevolgd kan hebben gezien dat ze in 1993 nog een nummer 1 scoorden (ook in de lijst van toen dus) maar het begon met deze, I don't want a Lover. In het topic van zaaf herontdekte ik het nummer, indien mogelijk, nog een keer en daarmee stond het zelfs op 2 in mijn 1989 lijst, hoger dan ik van te voren had ingeschat.

Elke keer bij het (op)nieuw samenstellen van de lijst van 1989 ga ik net als bij mijn andere lijsten in deze topics nog steeds voortvarend te werk: een selectie van zo'n 25 nummers wordt beoordeeld en dan uiteindelijk teruggebracht tot 10 serieuze tips.

En vervolgens is elke keer de teleurstellende ervaring: o ja, slechts een top 20, er kunnen er maar een paar verdwijnen.
Alleen de besten blijven over. Dat houdt in dat je ook veel "nee" verkoopt, ook tegen nummers waar je dat niet snel verwacht.

En dan hou je een prachtige 'guilty pleasure' van Dusty Springfield over, een onverwachte maar niet minder prachtig nummer van de Hollow men dat hier in dit topic naar voren werd geschoven en een opbeurend nieuwe en sterke single van Chris Rea.

Hopelijk bedenk ik in de komende week, dat alleen de allerbeste nummers voor 1989 hoeven deel te nemen aan de voorselectie.

Aangezien het album vrij leeggemolken werd en veel mensen het album al hadden, had ik het wel wat gevonden inderdaad als bijv. Stone als single was gereleased in een Shep Pettibone remix (kijkend naar 1989) a la Express yourself/Vogue/Janet Jackson house remixes van 1814), die ballads werden hooguit ge-edit voor de single releases. Had bij Stone zeker gekund zo'n Pettibone verbouwing.

ben ik dan de enige die Hey Mr. Heartache een goede start van de Close periode vond?

Nee hoor, maar ik doelde meer op het uitbrengen van Four Letter Word en Love in the Natural Way als singles i.p.v. European Soul en Stone. Let wel, het album Close (voor mij de beste van Kim) staat bij mij op 4,5 sterren. Ik vind alleen Four Letter Word een mindere track op dat album, verder vind ik de overige nummers minimaal goed.

P.S. Stone heeft voor mij geen bewerking nodig, is op zichzelf staand al een beretrack.

Maar je kan ook moeilijk zeggen dat Four Letter Word (Ik vind m zelf ook minder) een niet succesvolle single was.

Je maakt een Onweerwelpje van net 10 jaar met terugwerkende kracht verdrietig door zo negatief te doen over het liedje dat hij wekenlang uit volle borst mee'zong' als het op de radio kwam.

Overigens wist ik niet wat de titel was van het nummer destijds, want 'Four Letter Word' is te abstract. Het regeltje "Hide away the tears" verstond ik destijds als "Hold you in the tree" en dat was voor mij de titel.
