In 1980 zal ik Meadow van Taurus 2 of 3x gehoord hebben (en toch herinnerde ik me een deel van het refrein), met een bescheiden notering tot gevolg. Nu draai ik hem zo nu en dan, en elke keer ben ik weer verbaasd over de kracht, de meeslependheid; vandaar dat David Bowie, Manfred Mann en Robert Palmer het nakijken hebben en Taurus naar nummer 1 springt.
Verder zijn er momenteel wat te veel tips voor mijn top 20 om allemaal te kunnen noteren. Zo lijkt The Police met Don't stand so close to me het hierdoor niet eens te halen...

Helaas heeft Ruud (50tracks) te kennen geven door tijdgebrek tijdelijk met het topic te stoppen. Zonder zicht op wanneer hij weer terugkeert.
Daarmee verliezen we (hopelijk dus voor slechts even) een zeer ervaren en gedreven kracht. Aanwezig in dit topic sinds 20 januari 2013. Toen ging het nog over 1969.

Uiteraard heb ik Ruud, en hierbij nogmaals, dank gezegd voor alle inspanningen en de vele verrassende muzikale vondsten.

Tussendoor worden dat soort dingen altijd wat minder opgemerkt maar alle inzet van iedereen heeft natuurlijk buitengewone waarde voor dit topic.

Het herinnert mij ook weer aan het toch wat bizarre fenomeen dat je hier op de site jarenlang kunt zitten, schrijven en praten over muziek terwijl je geen idee hebt wie er achter de persoon zit. Sommige mede-users, ook in dit topic, ken ik al 16 jaar. Geen idee wie iedereen is. Aardige mensen, niks van te zeggen. Maar ja, hoe ze er uit zien of hoe het met ze gaat.....

In totaliteit scheelt een deelnemer meer of minder 210 punten zeg ik altijd. Punten technisch klopt dat maar het is niet altijd gezegd dat je dit direct terug ziet in de gezamenlijk lijst. Als ik alle punten bij elkaar optel zitten we deze week aan 1352 punten, vorige week was dat 1372. Dat verschil bedraagt maar slechts 20 punten.
Het aantal nummers dat meedeed staat op precies 100 (vorige week was dat 113) en als we het de ene week meer eens zijn met elkaar dan de andere kan dat ook behoorlijk schelen in het totaal van onze gezamenlijke lijst.

Waarin David Bowie nog steeds op 1 staat waarvoor hulde. Maar ik meen te mogen veronderstellen dat we voor volgende week onze nieuwe nummer 1 hebben gevonden in Enola Gay. Het moet wel heel raar lopen als dat niet gebeurd.

Verder natuurlijk een paar behoorlijke verschuivingen door het vertrek van 50tracks, onder andere zijn er problemen voor Robert Palmer en Diesel.
De grote winst zit 'm dus vooral bij Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark en de Teardrop Explodes. Die laatste band moeten we inzake naderend succes ook niet uitvlakken.
Terwijl het grote puntenverlies dus zit bij de genoemde Palmer en Diesel.

En, ook dat moet zeker even worden geconstateerd, de aanhouder wint, zo blijkt. Diana Ross heeft nu toch eindelijk haar 2 singles in de lijst. Het is maar goed, zoals gaucho al eerder memoreerde, dat er in Nederland nog een vierde single van haar album is uitgebracht. Dan kan die tenminste in alle rust in de lijst worden opgenomen als het zover is.

Ah dat is jammer dat Ruud (hopelijk tijdelijk) geen lijsten meer aanlevert. Ik kon daar altijd leuke vondsten uithalen, zoals je zelf ook al memoreerde, Hans. Ook uit het Polderpop gedeelte.

En hoe ik er uitzie en hoe het met me gaat?
Als je het echt wilt weten...laat ik het zo zeggen, het mooie is er wel wat vanaf na 52 jaar , maar verder gaat het prima deluxe, voor nu.

Hopelijk geldt dat laatste voor een ieder hier en denk ik daarbij ook aan Marzipaintree. En ben ook nog steeds benieuwd hoe het met Martial (Edwin) gaat die hier tot 2,5 jaar geleden fulltime meedeed. Maar ik zag net dat hij inmiddels ook niet meer actief is op deze site.

Inderdaad jammer! Hopelijk is er over een tijdje weer de tijd en zin.

Marzipaintree heeft mij laten weten dat hij op 4 mei is getroffen door een beroerte. Hij wilde dat eerst niet bekendmaken, maar nu maakt het hem niet zoveel uit. Het herstel verloopt moeizaam, maar hij is vast van plan om hier terug te keren. Hij bedankt iedereen voor de belangstelling naar zijn gezondheid.

Ach jee

Of je het leest weet ik niet maar vanaf deze plek veel succes en sterkte met het herstel!

Dat mag zeker wel een drama worden genoemd.
Sowieso natuurlijk een zeer voorspoedig herstel aan Marzipaintree gewenst.
We zullen hem ook zeker niet laten vallen!

Geen opvallende zaken deze week te melden.
Hoewel de nieuwe singles allemaal weer prima zijn.
Christopher Cross de ultimate Middle of the Road mag worden genoemd.
Als de song maar goed is. Met Foreigner en Billy Joel maakt hij er een beetje een nogal Amerikaanse aangelegenheid van. In tegenstelling tot de VS wisten de nummers hier niet de hitlijsten te bereiken.

Grace Jones zingt geheel in het Frans (?) maar we kennen haar voorkeuren. Het prachtige Politiek van Bram Vermeulen zat al een tijdje te dringen en Billy Idol wil met Generation X nog maar weer eens aantonen hoog in de lijst van getalenteerde newwavers te staan. Hoewel het nummer wel even op gang moet komen.

Weer drie fijne nieuwe binnenkomers, maar er staan er ook nog veel (al langere tijd) te wachten. Pino D'Angiò, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Supertramp, Lio en zo kan ik nog wel doorgaan. Wat moet dat muzikaal gezien toch een toffe tijd geweest zijn, met ook al zijn contrasten.

Voor George Benson kun je me altijd wakker maken, dus deze moest er in. Van de twee andere had ik tot voor kort nog nooit gehoord.

In Transit staat niet op deze site (nog niet), maar het bijbehorende album wil ik wel graag snel gaan beluisteren. AOR waar ik graag naar mag luisteren, op basis van Turn on Your Light. Zanger Don Dunn (uit San Diego) heeft schijnbaar diverse nummers geschreven die zijn opgenomen door o.a. Joe Cocker, Jose Feliciano, Rare Earth, Kenny Rogers, Cher, 5th Dimension en Diana Ross. Hopen dat het album een mooie ontdekking wordt.

Maar het frappantste wat ik deze week tegenkwam bij het zoeken naar nieuwe nummers was wel Don't Come Stoned and Don't Tell Trude door Max 'n' Specs. Martijn Jonkers was me voor. Het betreft twee Amerikaanse gasten die in Nederland wonen/woonden. Op 22 september 1980 werd het nummer door Frits Spits verkozen tot Steunplaat. Dat weet ranboy vast ook nog wel, die is van de Steunplaten

Wat is dan het frappante zul je denken? Nou dat dit nummer is geproduceerd en gecomponeerd door Ilja Gort. Die ken ik dan juist van zijn diverse programma's over wijn. Mag daar graag naar kijken. Het blijkt echter dat hij voor hij de wijnbranche in ging, schrijver was van voornamelijk reclametunes, zoals voor Duo Penotti, Nationale-Nederlanden en Nescafé. Zo leer je nog eens wat.

Ook hoor je op de achtergond (en zie je in de videoclip) o.a. Cherry Wijdenbosch. Die ik dan weer vooral ken van het anti-racistische nummer Dame uit Suriname. Het nummer wat daarvoor werd uitgebracht, Vang Me werd ook bij, daar heb je hem weer, Frits Spits, Steunplaat.

Bijzondere sound inderdaad. Ik vroeg mij nog af of het wat te maken had met de oude Wings hit en kwam er toen ook bij terecht. Maar heel fris jazzy en funky. Heel apart ten opzichte van wat er gemiddeld allemaal voorbij komt.

Wat een leuk verhaal over Max 'n' Specs Poeha! Wist ik niet van Ilja Gort en Cherry. Naast de nummers die je noemt vind ik My Second Skin ook wel een leuk nummer van Cherry

Goed om Totally Wired binnen te zien komen bij Justus18. Het verbaasde me al dat ik hem nog zo weinig zag. Toch een van de bekendste en beste Fall-singles dacht ik. Ook The Soft Boys zie ik nog nauwelijks terug (op deze pagina alleen bij mezelf). Dat zou toch ook meer mensen moeten aanspreken.

Qua nieuw spul bij mij ook 'My Old Piano', van de huidige reeks singles van Diana Ross toch wel de beste. En met Kano's It's A War komt ook een uitstekenede italo-klassieker tegen.

Verder nog een nummer van A Taste of One, waarin een behoorlijke one-hit-wonder uit de eerste helft van de 90's is terug te vinden.

Ik zie trouwens her en der Crosseyed and Painless voorbij komen, maar die komt pas in 1981 (videoclip althans) toch? Voor dit jaar zie ik alleen een promo.

In de The Fallmeter (1976-2018) haalde Totally Wired P47 met 8,18. How I Wrote 'Elastic Man’ haalde 8,23 en bereikte P39. De laatste kreeg toen van mij een 9, terwijl Totally Wired 9,3 kreeg. Daarbij moet ik opmerken dat ik mijn cijfersysteem een paar jaar geleden herijkt heb, waardoor vroeger gegeven cijfers hoger zijn dan wat ik er nu voor zou geven. Ten tweede zijn gegeven cijfers de waan van de dag. Ik verwacht dat ik nu How I Wrote 'EM' hoger zou waarderen dan Totally Wired (nummers in mijn TOP40 geef ik geen cijfers, omdat die de wekelijkse herbeoordeling in de weg zitten).

24cat vermeldt het nummer alleen als b-kant van de Italiaanse release van Once In A Lifetime ut 1981. Ik ben verder gaan zoeken en vond ergens (RYM?) niet alleen de promo, maar ook een 12 inch uit het najaar van 1980 met The Great Curve op de b-kant. Daarop besloot ik musician te volgen.
