Walk On By zou zo maar eens het beste Burt Bacharach-liedje kunnen. Wat een juweeltje, zeker in deze uitvoering.

De single Wish Someone Would Care van Irma Thomas had ik al wel een paar keer beluisterd, maar vond ik niet zo bijzonder. Totdat ik de b-kant hoorde. Ik wist eigenlijk niet dat Break-a-way al zo oud was. Geweldig nummer en dus alsnog een entry in mijn lijst.

Jamie Carter - The Boy With the Way. Sandra Elayne Hurvitz, alias Jamie Carter, maar ook bekend als Essra Mohawk nam op 16 jarige leeftijd dit zelf geschreven nummer op.
Zangtechnisch is het niet optimaal, maar als compositie is het buitengewoon geslaagd. Dit opmerkelijke nummer haalde geen enkele hitlijst, maar is nu te vinden op plaats 222 (in de categorie popmuziek) van Rate Your Music.

Hoogste nieuwe is de orginele versie van Go Now. Erg leuk. Jammer dat deze versie door The Moody Blues de vergetelheid in is gezongen. Precieze release data achterhalen is overigens wel een issue bij de reggaesingles. The Kinks is vooral een voorproefje voor wat over 4 maanden gaat komen.

Net als 50tracks heb ik ook wat rondgekeken in Jamaica en alle singles van het Blue Beat label gedownload. Uit de eerste reeks die ik beluisterd heb (geen straf overigens), sprong die van Buster All Stars (Prince Buster) er het meeste uit. Wellicht volgende week ook plek voor The Maytals (die zowat elke maand een single uitbrachten) en Andy & Joey. Leuke nummers ook.

The Dixie Cups' Chapel of Love is een fijne girl groupsong. Wat hogerop komen de soul van Isley Brothers en de folk (?) van Trini Lopez binnen. Die laatste zou meer mensen hier kunnen aanspreken denk ik:

Rustig weekje hier, met drie nieuwe binnenkomers. Baden Powell is een Braziliaanse gitarist die een bewerking heeft gemaakt van het klassieke stuk van Albinoni. Een wat vreemde eend in de bijt wellicht. Lastig te dateren, maar ik laat hem nu maar binnenkomen (het was in ieder geval een single in 1964). Lastig te dateren is ook de single van Nara, maar haar album kwam in april uit, dus ik gok de single ook. Eén van mijn favoriete Braziliaanse zangeressen, al luister ik liever haar gelijknamige album dan losse liedjes. Tenslotte komt ook Otis binnen met zijn laatste single.

The Yardbirds kunnen mij nog niet helemaal overtuigen met de oude bluescover 'I Wish You Would', maar alleen al om het feit, dat de band drie bij het leven legendarische gitaristen in zijn gelederen had, namelijk Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck en Jimmy Page, krijgt hun eerste single een notering.

Chuck Berry's 'No Particular Place to Go' was zelfs in 1964 een ouderwets rock 'n rollnummer, maar wel een leuke.

Het in 1964 reeds anderhalf jaar oude 'P.S. I Love You' van The Beatles werd voor de Amerikaanse markt van de planken gehaald en haalde een 4e plek in de Billboard Hot100.

Arthur heeft op de topic '1970 - Tipparade-, singles- en eigen lijsten/besprekingen' laten weten te stoppen met zijn bijdragen en dat geldt ook voor dit topic. Spijtig, maar ook niet verrassend gezien zijn regelmatige opmerkingen over tijdnood.
Als initiator van dit topic en mede namens Herman en 50tracks wil ik Arthur bedanken voor zijn deelname en altijd sympathieke berichten. Misschien zien we je hier ooit nog eens terug.

Dank voor de lieve woordjes, heicro. Meevolgen blijf ik sowieso doen, dus af en toe nog eens een berichtje kan je van mij zeker verwachten! En ook hier geldt, dat als de tijd en zin terug zijn, ik hier zeker weer van me zal laten horen, lijstjesgewijs

Jammer maar goed te begrijpen en verder sluit ik me helemaal bij heicro en musician aan. Overigens begrijp ik de keuze voor 1989 weer minder goed want dat vind ik, behalve de volgens mij gezamenlijke liefde voor The Stone Roses, eigenlijk een zeer matig muziekjaar. Ik begrijp nu met terugwerkende kracht beter waarom bijvoorbeeld de grunge zo hard nodig was.

'Here I Go Again' van The Hollies is een waardige opvolger van 'Just One Look'. Het is opnieuw een cover, maar de driestemmige zang vormt steeds meer een handelsmerk.
