Het is hier een paar dagen rustig geweest, omdat ik zelf erg druk was - excuses daarvoor. The Boomtown Rats scoort een behoorlijk rapport met veel zevens en achten, maar een één uit bekende hoek haalt gemiddelde nog 3/10e naar beneden.

Komende dagen wil ik dit topic gaan misbruiken voor nummers die bij mij op de shortlist staan om te nomineren voor de Ladder van 2019, om een beetje het water te voelen.

Voor de eerste nominatie blijven we in 1979: een uitmuntend jaar voor de postpunk. Vele klassiekers uit het genre hebben al wel de lijst gehaald (o.a. Joy Division, The Clash, The Cure, Wire, The Undertones en Bauhaus), maar ik verbaas mij vooral over het feit dat Gang of Four er niet (meer) in staat. Dat terwijl, als je de band en met name dit nummer beluisterd, je toch wel een duidelijke blauwdruk hoort voor veel hele populaire indierockbands uit de 21e eeuw (hallo Strokes! hallo Arctic Monkeys!). Vandaar dat dit mijn eerste nominatiekandidaat voor 2019 is.

Gang of Four scoort behoorlijk.

Al een paar jaar probeer ik italodisco in de lijst te krijgen. Los van één nummer van aartsvader Moroder is dat genre pijnlijk ondervertegenwoordigd. Toppers als Visitors en Spacer Woman (dit jaar op 2025 ) haalden het niet, dus het wordt tijd om grof geschut in te zetten... Dirty Talk is voor zo'n archetypische track, die zijn tijd ruim vooruit was. Nog steeds hoor je hem regelmatig in sets voorbij komen. En zeg nou zelf, als Blue Monday see finale haalt, dan moet het nummer waar het op geïnspireerd is toch zeker in de lijst?
