Afgaande op mijn lijsten is dit het beste Smiths-jaar, maar voor mij is de concurrentie ook minder dan in 1983. This Charming Man had ik toen op 9 staan, maar zou in '86 de top 3 halen. Komt ook doordat ik me nooit overmatig heb verdiept in 1986.

Bij mij dus op 4! De b side is Moz' fave Smiths song, maar tegelijk dus ook the beginning of the end voor de band

Bigmouth is de enige Smiths die ik in dit spel heb doorgestuurd. Als het goed is mag het ook gezegd worden lijkt me.

Promo alert!! Op dezelfde avond geschreven als Frankly mr Shankly en I know it's over.
Marr vond zichzelf enorm slim toen hij de pers ervan kon overtuigen dat het akkoordenverloop niet gebaseerd is op There she goes again van VU, maar dat hij net als Reed de mosterd bewust bij de Stones' cover van Marvin Gayes Hitch Hike haalde.
Tekstueel vond Morrissey inspiratie bij Lonely planet boy van de New York Dolls en de film Saturday Night and Sunday Morning.
Aanvankelijk sloot het nummer af met "there is a light in your eye, and it never goes out".

Zou de herfstplaat dan gaan winnen? Of mis ik nog iets...

Ik heb het licht nooit gezien in dit nummer.

De zangmelodie van de eerste versie van het nummer werd in later versie gebruikt als counter-zangmelodie (Mills' zangpartij dus) en die tekst bevat dan ook de originele, door het fenomeen zure regen geïnspireerde tekst.

Ik voel I Want You ook niet zo, maar dat maakt het nog niet overschat natuurlijk.

Het lichtje vind ik mooi, maar niet uitzonderlijk binnen het oeuvre van The Smiths. Het blijkbaar op dezelfde dag opgenomen I Know It's Over vind ik veel mooier.

Ja, voor mij van hetzelfde kaliber als Driver 8, maar die haalde vorig jaar de top 20 niet eens. En deze dan op 1.
