The Replacements werden opgericht door de broertjes Bob (Lead gitaar) en Tommy Stinson (Basgitaar), twee wildebrassen. Drummer Chris Mars kende nog wel een zanger, Paul Westenberg. Deze laatste werd de belangrijkste figuur binnen de band. Hij schreef niet alleen alle songs, maar hield ook de discipline in de gaten. Dat was hard nodig, want de rest hield nogal van sex & drugs & rock n roll.. In 1985 ging het niet langer en werd junkie Bob Stinson uit de band gegooid door Westenberg. Hij had The Replacements intussen vanuit de punk roots richting de alternatieve rock geloodst. Bob Stinson daarentegen bleef gebruiken en stierf in 1995.

Het duurde even voordat The Replacements 10 stemmen bij elkaar hadden geharkt. Toch wel mijn belangrijkste criterium om een nieuw nummer te plaatsen. Het is daarom niet verwonderlijk dat het gemiddelde blijft steken op 7,573. (213e in het tussenklassement)

The Tubes werden al begin jaren 70 opgericht in San Francisco. Het duurde tot de New Wave periode, enkele jaren later, voordat ze bekend werden bij een groot publiek. Of beter gezegd berucht. Hun podiumact was namelijk zeer flamboyant met veel sex, geweld, humor en spektakel. Een belangrijke rol was daarbij weggelegd voor het enige vrouwelijke lid van de band, blondine Re Styles, geboren in (jawel) Middelburg. Rond 1986 begon de band langzaam maar zeker uit elkaar te vallen, na het vertrek van founding members als Bill Spooner en later Vince Welnick. Toch bestaat de band, in gewijzigde samenstelling, nog steeds. Hier is hun bekendste track, uit 1977.

Ik heb de Tubes nog gezien in de Vereeniging te Nijmegen.
Voor die tijd was er nog wel enige spektakel, maar sex en geweld toch wel erg weinig.
