Ook al lag het er wel dik bovenop, het blijft natuurlijk een geweldige nummer twee.

De nummer 1 is ook wel helder. Kan ik met een gerust hart gaan sporten.

Met 4x Smiths een tikkie eenzijdig, maar kwalitatief een erg sterke top 10 mannen. Ben nog wel nieuwsgierg naar de bubbling under lijst (en de individuele lijstjes!).

En de winnaar is…..
Uiteindelijk toch met een behoorlijke afstand gewonnen, donderdagmiddag was het verschil met Talk Talk toch maar 4 punten en het was de gehele week ook spannend, de laatste lijstjes (donderdagavond) leverde de winnaar nog 25 punten op.
Dit liedje is overigens gewend te winnen , wordt er weer eens “het beste Smiths, indie popliedje, of beste Britse popliedje gekozen dan staat deze aan de top.

Je kan altijd discussiëren wat het beste liedje van The Smiths is, maar dit zal voor vele het ultieme Smiths liedje zijn, prachtige melodie, fraai arrangement en dan Morrissey en Marr.
Morrissey wilde echte strijkers, maar het budget en andere musici dan die van The Smiths in de studio waren voldoende argumenten om Marr ze uit een synth te laten klinken, credits mochten naar ( Hated Salford Ensemble ).
Ieder gezongen regel van Morrissey is raak maar ook vooral iedere tekstregel is keihard raak er zit geen hapering in.
De bekende Morrissey thema’s lijken hier allemaal samen te komen.

Het enige jaar dat ik The Smiths in mijn top 10 heb staan, al is 4 x uiteindelijk misschien wel teveel van het goeie. En Paul Simon zie ik wel wat voorbij komen, maar net als bij Bruce Springsteen en z'n album Born in the U.S.A. telkens met verschillende nummers zodat er geen enkel hoog scoort.

Ik neem aan dat je je bewust bent van het feit dat dit de versie betreft die op Salt 'n Pepa - Hot, Cool & Vicious (1986) staat en dus niet om de versie die in Nederland op nr. 1 heeft gestaan in de Top 40 in 1988. Overigens hoort die versie (de nr. 1 hit) in 1987 thuis want is in 1987 uitgebracht als b-kant van Tramp.

Toen ik in 1982 op de prachtige 12" van B-Movie - Nowhere Girl wilde stemmen, mocht dat niet meer vanwege een premature EP-versie uit 1980. Dus op Push It stemmen doe ik nu maar vast, om soortgelijke teleurstellingen te voorkomen.

Ach zo, maar aan de versie uit 1986 is behoorlijk "gesleuteld" met als resultaat de wereld hit. De nummers verschillen wezenlijk.

Gelijk maar even aan Rudi S vragen of Push It in 1987 er bij mag / moet?
Ik heb hem namelijk in mijn short list staan voor 1987.
