Je zegt toch wel malle dingen af en toe .

The Joshua Tree was, toen ik hem bijna 15 jaar geleden 'toch maar een keer' beluisterde (Achtung Baby was niet lang daarvoor mijn U2-debuut) een aangename verrassing. Wat kwam er een hoop klasse voorbij na die uitgekauwde eerste vier nummers.En dat is te horen! Deze en Achtung Baby (hoewel totaal verschillend) zijn nog altijd verreweg mijn favoriete U2. R.E.M. stond, na vier platen die mijn top-20 niet haalden, ook in mijn lijst, maar in het licht van de rest van hun repertoire sluit ik me wel een beetje aan bij de zuinige opmerkingen die deze en gene er al over maakten.

Enfin, 16 albums had ik al weggegeven. De overige 4 en de volgorde:

Nu ik al langdurig vrijwel geen radio meer hoor, ben ik jegens die eerste drie nummers wel iets milder geworden. Bullet the Blue Sky blijft waardeloos.

Maar je zult toch met me eens zijn dat de alomtegenwoordigheid van U2, in vergelijking met vrijwel alle andere muziek, een tikkeltje overdreven is?

Toch nog 2 van de 10 die in mijn lijstje staan, Prince & Sylvian. Tom Waits slecht op 25, das moeilijk te geloven.
Onderaan in de top 100 zie ik nog Brötzmann & Bill Laswell (97) en Negativland (100) en dat verrast me dan weer positief.
Ook Neubauten bij de eerste 50 (49 ) is leuk om te zien.

Voor de rest, zoals gewoonlijk, veel mainstream in de top 10/25. Kan er echt niets mee. Niet dat die muziek slecht is maar het doet me totaal niets en als het al iets teweeg brengt is het meestal verveling. Als je de eertse minuut van een popsong kent, ken je (meestal) ook de rest.

Mooie nummer 1, al had ik graag ook GnR in de top 10 gezien. Toch nog altijd een dijk van plaat en een sterk debuutalbum. Als het wat meevalt zie ik dit jaar beide groepen live. Ticket GnR is al binnen, maandag verkoop van U2.
