Mijn absolute nummer een release dit jaar zou Fragments Out Of Time van Dylan zijn maar of dat nu als nieuw album telt...

De eindstand

De transformatie tot eigenzinnige rockster is compleet op Sean Bowie’s beste en meest consistente album tot nog toe.

2. Lalalar - En Kötü Iyi Olur
De tweede worp van dit psychedelische trio uit Istanbul is wederom heerlijk geproduceerd en groovy-as-fuck.

3. MSPAINT - Post-American
Post-hardcore maar zonder gitaren en met glansrollen voor de basgitaar en synthesizers, oftewel synth-core.

4. Flamingods - Head of Pomegranate
Charismatische, psychedelische indie uit London, met hier en daar ingrediënten uit verschillende Aziatische keukens. Perfect voor zonnige dagen.

5. The Murlocs - Calm Ya Farm
Op de nieuwe plaat van The Murlocs (met leden van King Gizzard), ligt de focus op blues en americana. Optimistische en gezellige plaat.

6. The Armed - Perfect Saviors
Het hardcore collectief ging voor een pop plaat. Een geslaagde combi van warme melodieën en uitbarstingen van noise en chaos.

7. Paris Texas - MID AIR
Een knaller van een debuut, deze alternatieve hiphop plaat met rock en punk invloeden.

8. Muzi - uMUZI
Wederom fijne, licht verteerbare Zulu pop/house van producer Muzi.

9. Bokanté - History
Het internationale 8-koppige gezelschap onder leiding van Michael League (Snarky Puppy) levert weer een artistieke plaat af waarbij vooral inspiratie wordt gehaald uit West Afrikaanse blues.

10. Young Fathers - Heavy Heavy
Weinig nieuws onder de zon, maar wederom een lekkere plaat met euphorische en eigenzinnige ‘Voodoo Gospel’.

De nummers 1 t/m 3 staan wel vast, maar er kan nog wat geschoven worden en ik twijfel of ik de retro-progplaat van Agusa er in ga zetten.
Er zijn overigens wel wat platen met historische opnamen gemaakt dit jaar, waarvan ik ook twijfel of ik ze niet gewoon kan meenemen in de lijst, ze zijn immers dit jaar uitgebracht.

Mijn nummer 5 zie ik heel veel lijsten terugkomen, misschien dat ik haar een plek omhoog zet.

Ik ga hier vnv mee aan de slag

Erúg genoten van wat 2023 op muzikaal vlak te bieden heeft. Vooral de hiphop van dit jaar was smullen en heb ik regelmatig gedraaid. Paar (inmiddels) gevestigde namen, maar allen brachten ze weer hun a-game. Verder paar tour de forces van een Lankum en Sprain, aangevuld door poppy goodness van Ana Frango en Polachek, snufje jazz, en wat Chileens gitaar-gepriegel, en de top 10 was zo gevuld. Ook in de bubblin' heel wat moois wat ik in de toekomst zeker weer zal herbezoeken.

In september nog je album van het jaar en nu uit de top 10 gedonderd? Wat is er gebeurd?

Ik ben hier tactisch aan het stemmen: Madame haalt nooit de top 100 op Musicmeter. Dus vandaar plek 11.

Verder zijn er inmiddels nog een paar albums die wel mee kunnen strijden met Madame voor album van het jaar bij mij. En die staan wel bovenaan.

Het effect van tactisch stemmen hebben we 4 weken geleden gezien

Perzoonlijk zou 't mij jeuken als ik de enige 'fiver' was voor een album dat mij helemaal meenam. Andersom heb ik wél de neiging als recalcitrante agnost argwanend te staan t.o een album dat veel bevijfd wordt.
