Van The Nits heb ik alleen de live-uitvoering kunnen vinden op YouTube van Typist Of Candy, maar degene die de lp of cd Henk in huis hebben weet vast hoe de niet live-versie klinkt van dit nummer.
En de mannen gaan weer toeren in het nieuwe seizoen oftewel hou de theaters in de gaten in je woonplaats

De Mary Jane Girls komen met een leuke cover (althans dat vind ik) van Walk Like A Man waar het origineel van The Four Seasons is, het geluid van Rick James is overigens duidelijk waarneembaar in deze cover.

De spin-off van Split Enz is een feit en Crowded House doet zijn intrede in de muziekwereld met een alleraardigste single en die heet Mean To Me.

De nieuwe single van Peter Koelewijn (Ah Oui) zal niet bij iedereen in de lijst terecht komen maar heb dit altijd een leuk nummer gevonden en nog steeds, tekstueel stelt het allemaal niet zo veel voor, maar "grappig" is het wel.
Voilà was ik maar weer in Pays-Bas

Sing Our Own Song van UB40 kent een ijzersterke melodie die zeer aanstekelijk is en met gemak doorstoot naar nummer 1 in de Top 40.

Een ééndagsvlieg met een vrolijk en radiovriendelijk nummer dat nu nog steeds gedraaid mag worden, het was geen tijdverspilling om naar dit nummer te luisteren.
Cijfer: 7,5

15. André Van Duin - Voor De Kat's Viool / André van Duin - Barbecue
De nummers die niet aan carnaval zijn verbonden vind ik zijn betere. De eerste vind ik zelfs erg leuk over de slechtste voetbalploeg ter wereld, de andere is wat minder maar ook nog grappig.
Cijfer: 7,5 / 6

18. Bucks Fizz - New Beginning
Zowaar een nieuwe single van de Britse Abba (zij werden daarmee vaak vergeleken maar konden nooit het peil van die legendarische groep benaderen) en het is een vrij aanstekelijk nummer met veel percussie maar productioneel ook wat tijdsgebonden.
Cijfer: 6,5

23. Topper Headon - Leave It To Luck
Clash-drummer pakt verrassend sterk uit met een soulnummer die naar de sixties lonkt al kreeg hij medewerking van andere (goede) muzikanten. Maar het belangrijkste, het resultaat klinkt prima, vooral de zang en de blazers.

25. Dennie Christian , Mieke en Freddy Breck - Vakantie
Met deze drie zou ik niet met vakantie willen gaan al klinkt het minder belegen dan je van hen zou mogen verwachten.

26. Roberto Jacketti & The Scooters - Soul of Rock And Roll
Vrij clichématige rock'n roll maar het pretendeert ook niet meer te zijn, het is niets meer dan simpel vermaak.

27. Koos Alberts - Ik Slaap Vannacht Wel Op De Bank
Met deze slijmerige smartlap heb ik het veel moeilijker, laat ik over aan de liefhebbers van dit genre.

28. Pete Wylie - Sinful
Welke mix moet in 's hemelsnaam nemen? Hoe dan ook, het kan mij geen meter boeien (kende dit nummer niet). Voor de liefhebbers: dit is de lange versie.

29. Maywood - When I Look Into Your Eyes
Een niemendalletje dat ook vrij gedateerd klinkt, hun vroegere hits (beginjaren '80) waren beduidend beter.

30. The Rolling Stones - One Hit (To The Body)
Een Stones-nummer dat een tikkeltje banaal klinkt maar mede door de sterke riff en melodie nog het beste nummer uit hun zwakke Dirty Work, het boterde niet meer tussen Jagger en Richards (en dat zie je in de clip).

A-ha stoomt deze week door naar de eerste plek, wat ook betekent dat David Bowie in zijn vijfde week al de eerste plaats moet afstaan, dat is erg snel.

Op 24 komen The Housemartins binnen met hun eerste hit, Happy hour. Een erg vrolijk, aanstekelijk deuntje dat wel een grotere hit had mogen worden.

Op 34 de laidback sophisticated AOR rock van Chris Rea, met rustgevende strandgeluiden en zijn bekende schorre stem.

Op 36 het typische Big Country-geluid met The teacher. Niet zo verrassend meer als op het debuutalbum, maar nog steeds fijn om naar te luisteren.

Op 37 de grote soulklassieker uitgevoerd door zwaargewicht soulzanger Solomon Burke. Ik denk dat ik in 1986 het origineel niet kende (wat niet op de radio gedraaid werk, kende ik niet), dus geheel objectief kon ik dit lied met een top 40-notering waarderen.

Op 38 The Eurythmics, die nog altijd een hit scoorden met praktisch elke single, ook klonken ze vaak heel verschillend. When tomorrow comes rockt stevig, maar de stem van Annie Lennox is altijd herkenbaar, en de melodieën zijn altijd sterk.

We noteren 5 nieuwkomers en waarvan er twee terugkeren in de lijst (Madonna + Talk Talk)

Stan Ridgway laat horen hoe country zou moeten klinken, een heerlijke en aanstekelijk melodie waar het meezingen vanzelf gaat of je nu wilt of niet, een klasseplaat!

Tears van The Chameleons is een ware beauty te noemen, een echt groeibriljantje.

Zomerse en luchtige klanken van Owen Paul met My Favourite Waste Of Time is gewoonweg een leuke zomerhit, niets meer en niets minder.

Michael McDonald doet zeer goede zaken in zijn 2e week met Sweet Freedom en staat inmiddels op nummer 5.

Een mooi zomers plaatje van UB40.
Het mag misschien niet allemaal even fraai zijn geweest, een hekel heb ik nooit gehad aan die band.

Het mooiste in de lijst is toch altijd maar zo'n carrière als dat van Lessons in Love van Level 42: 6 weken genoteerd en nog steeds doorstijgen, nu zelfs de Top 10 in. En dan zijn er nummers van 6 weken oud die veel hoger en sneller waren maar die nu alweer op hun retour zijn. Hulde voor King en zijn mannen!

* Een heel lekker plaatje van Robert Palmer wat resulteert in een mooie binnenkomst op nummer 20

* Arcadia of Duran Duran what's in a name zullen we maar zeggen bij het beluisteren van The Flame.

* The Snake Corps kende ik niet, maar nu wel een leuke ontdekking.

* Voor The Lady In Red moet je in de stemming zijn gok ik voorzichtig, Chris De Burgh heeft mazzel dan bij mij

The Snake Corps is het vervolg van Sad Lovers and Giants die iets dromeriger waren, deze zijn iets steviger, maar ook mooi

Dit blinkt ook niet bepaald uit in vindingrijkheid: op de tonen van Madonna's Holiday met het refrein van Summer Holiday van Cliff Richard.

Dit nummer doet mij ook niet meer erg veel - leunt teveel op productietrucs - en klinkt in zijn geheel wat sloom.

Deze man trekt zich niets aan van de trends maar blijft degelijke en tijdloze popsongs brengen. Heerlijke gitaar en fijne (schorre) stem.

Dit nummer kende ik nauwelijks meer, het refrein is enigszins catchy maar verder mis ik iedere vorm van eigenheid, het is te doorsnee

30. Kim Wilde - Schoolgirl

Slechts drie binnenkomers deze week. Op 21 komt Steve Winwood na een paar jaar weer terug met Higher love, een titel die mij destijds erg aansprak. Het is een prima Winwood-song, niet zo meeslepend als While you see a chance, en het verbaast me ook wel dat dit nog gewoon een hit werd.

Op 22 hitleverancier Simply Red, al zou Come to my aid niet de NL tipparade halen en is het ook niet een van hun beste songs; een beetje simpel en schreeuwerig.

En op 33 The Secret Sounds met Promises, standaard eighties rock met gelukkig een enthousiast gebracht refrein, anders zou het weinig positiefs meer hebben.
