Het heeft zo zijn voordelen als je later met je lijst komt, want zo pak je vandaag op deze zonnige vrijdag gewoon de worldwide release van Panic van The Smiths mee

No More I Love You's van The Lover Speaks is eigenlijk nog steeds een "beauty" maar kende helaas weinig succes.
Opvallend genoeg scoorde Annie Lennox er in 1995 een veel grotere hit mee, maar mijn voorkeur ligt toch bij de versie The Lover Speaks.

Op 39 een ongelofelijke lekkere bak tering herrie van Metallica met de single Master Of Puppets en wat mij betreft heeft deze single dan ook een dubbele A-kant, want het fantastische Welcome Home (Sanitarium) doet er helemaal niks voor onder en vind ik zelfs nog beter

De sterke singles van R.E.M. In Tua Nua en Daryl Hall zijn het vermelden méér dan waard en kunnen we gerust spreken van een sterke rij nieuwe binnenkomers en zodoende is de lijst der lijsten weer geplaatst deze week en ja kom er maar weer in beste mensen met jullie commentaar

1. Spandau Ballet - Fight for Ourselves
Een wat steviger nummer van Spandau Ballet maar glad geproduceerd. Melodie en refrein zijn ook niet bijster sterk.
Cijfer: 5,5

19. Lionel Richie - Dancing On The Ceiling
Dit vind ik dan weer één van de betere (dance)nummers van Lionel Richie. Aanstekelijk ritme en refrein en degelijke (hoewel ook wat gladde) productie.
Cijfer: 7,5

25. Michael McDonald - Sweet Freedom
De productie en de schelle blazers steken mij een beetje tegen maar de prima soulvolle zang en het ritme vergoeden veel.
Cijfer: 7

26. The Housemartins - Happy Hour
Gelukkig ook nog uitstekende gitaarpop anno 1986. Vrolijk, vlot, catchy en vitaal en bovenal geweldige zang van Paul Heaton.

27. Steve Winwood - Higher Love
Steve Winwood bezit ook een geweldige soulvolle stem. Daarnaast een refrein die blijft hangen en veel ritme.

28. Anneke Gronloh - Santo Domingo
Haar jaren '60-hits waren enigszins te pruimen, deze inspiratieloze cover van een jaren '60-hit daarentegen voegt totaal niets toe aan de muziekwereld.
Cijfer: 3,5

29. Demis Roussos - Summer In Her Eyes
Deze man komen wij vaak tegen in het 1973-topic. Zijn hits in die tijd mag ik nog steeds, dit daarentegen is mij te glad en melig.

30. The Smiths - Bigmouth Strikes Again
Dit nummer is veel tijdlozer. Pakkende melodie en tekst, emotionele zang, helder en efficiënt gitaarwerk, top gewoon.

Heerlijke productie en daarom gaan ze bij mij ook alle drie (hoog) scoren.

Weer een tamme lijst, want ik ben nog steeds op vakantie (in 1986). Ook de binnenkomers zijn niet al te sterk.

Op 26 scoort Rod Stewart nog een flinke hit met Every beat of my heart. Hij lijkt hier zijn imago van rockzanger en vrouwenversierder wat van zich af te schudden en zich wat meer op een ouder publiek te richten. Dankzij zijn altijd karakteristieke zang weet hij ook deze lichtelijk drakerige song toch nog van de grond te krijgen.

Over draken gesproken: de grote doorbraak in NL van Chris de Burgh, The lady in red, komt op 34 binnen. Dit is romantiek over de top, behoorlijk slijmerig gezongen en met een spaarzame elektronische begeleiding: wel een flinke breuk met zijn rockachtige verleden. Na 1 of 2 keer beluisteren heb je het wel gehad.

Op 36 Arcadia, dat precies klinkt als Duran Duran, vooral dankzij dezelfde zanger natuurlijk. Het is wel redelijk overtuigend gebracht, maar het swingt niet echt meer.

En op 37 een nogal schreeuwerige song van Spandau Ballet: wat is die band in een paar jaar inspiratieloos geworden! Waarom dit dan wel allemaal in mijn top 40 komt? Er moesten ook platen uit. Volgende week eindelijk wat echte verversing!

Eindelijk dan een van de heerlijkste nummers van de prima band Spandau Ballet, Fight For Ourselves. Jullie doen en vinden maar, ik vind het een geweldig nummer. En er zullen in de komende jaren nog een paar mooie tracks volgen.

Gisteren de film Cobra (met Stallone) weer eens voorbij zien komen, na hele lange tijd. Die goede oude tijd en daarin kwam Feel the Heat ook veelvuldig voorbij, dus, toeval of niet, die moest er ook in natuurlijk. Ben altijd al weg geweest van die jaren 80 soundtrack nummer, bekend of niet.

Vervolgens nog de disco soul productie van Gwen Guthrie. Een richting waar ik nogal voor te porren ben. Fijne track.

Too Good To Be Forgotten was toen een alleraardigst leuk hitje, vandaar de binnenkomst, maar deze zal het niet al te ver gaan schoppen.

A-Ha en The Smiths zitten elkaar al een paar weken op de hielen, maar A-Ha trekt nog steeds aan het langste eind en deze week zelfs met het gelijke puntenaantal.

Drie nieuwe binnenkomers begroeten wij dit keer en waarvan Joe Jackson met het leuke Home Town op 12 de hoogste nieuweling is.

Bryan Ferry wordt vooral gedragen door de oudere garde en The Go-Betweens met Head Full of Steam valt weer in de smaak bij johan en luigifort.

UB40 en Billy Bragg zien we de Top 10 binnenkomen en voor de rest wat lichte stijgers en dalers in de lijst.

Het Goede Doel moest flink wat punten inleveren deze week en die zakt dan ook van 3 naar 9.

Ik vermoed zo maar eens met de nieuwe single van Bruce Hornsby Poeha een groot plezier te doen, het is tenminste nog niet die platgedraaide The Way it is.
Want de eerste single van zijn enige grootste en meest bekende album was Every little kiss.

Het komt natuurlijk niet in de buurt van Panic van The Smiths , ik moet hier toegeven geweldig gelachen te hebben, het is haast nog spreekwoordelijk geworden, om Morrisseys eindeloze herhaling van Hang The DJ Hang The DJ Hang the DJ. Haha, die moesten we er maar voorlopig even inlaten. Hoewel het voor The Smiths al druk genoeg is, dit jaar.

Dat heb je goed geraden, heer musician, voor wat betreft Every Little Kiss.

Ik ben niet zo'n groot liefhebber van The Smiths, maar vind ze ook zeker niet slecht, alleen die overdaad in bepaalde jaren

Panic zei me niets. Echt
Maar toen ik het nummer beluisterde... tja dat is dus dat nummer wat ik ken(de) onder de titel Hang the DJ. Ik dacht altijd dat dat van een andere band was. Dit vind ik met afstand hun lekkerste.

De top 3 zit al 3 weken vast. En Sly Fox stijgt in zijn 13e week van 10 naar 9, een ongehoorde prestatie!

Op 25 komt de nieuwe Big Audio Dynamite binnen. Medicine show heeft net niet die drive die E = MC2 wel had, maar heeft wel dezelfde sound en feel, en ook weer de nodige samples uit films en dergelijke, en ook nog wat van een Ennio Morricone-soundtrack. Amusant is het zeker wel.

Op 33 gaat Daryl Hall ineens solo, na zoveel jaren een vast duo te zijn geweest met John Oates. Qua zang maakt het weinig uit, die nam Hall toch al voor zijn rekening, maar het is wel een heel ander type lied dan voorheen, een stuwende rock ballad, rijkelijk voorzien van een violenarrangement. Ik vind het erg geslaagd, overrompelend zelfs.

En op 35 komt er zomaar een rapplaat in mijn top 40 binnen, en niet de minste: deze heeft de eerste plaats in de top 40 bereikt! Holiday rap is natuurlijk gebaseerd op Holiday van Madonna en Summer holiday van Cliff Richard & the Shadows, maar de raps zijn van MC Miker G en DJ Sven zelf, en ik krijg hier altijd een goed humeur en een glimlach rond mijn mond van.

Tipparade: week 30 van 1986.

1. Sly Fox - Let's Go All The Way
Het lijkt wel jaren '60-psychedelica gestoken in een jaren '80-jasje. Hier vind ik de synths en syndrums wel functioneel en er goed bij passen. Nadien niets meer van deze band gehoord maar dit nummer mag niet vergeten worden.
Cijfer: 8,5

24. King MC featuring: Screamin "K" - What Have I Done For You Lately?
Natuurlijk gebaseerd op die hit van Janet Jackson, originaliteit was duidelijk niet hun sterkste kant. Al vallen de raps wel mee.
Cijfer: 5

25. Gloria Estefan - Falling In Love (Uh-Oh)
Wat minder dan de andere hits van Gloria Estefan, het heeft minder vaart en tempo en het refrein is ook niet sterk.
Cijfer: 5,5

26. The Art of Noise with Max Headroom - Paranoimia
Lijkt naar een climax te groeien al weet het mij niet over de hele lijn te boeien. Soms vind ik het mooi, soms vervelend ... een gemiddeld cijfer dan maar.
Cijfer: 6

27. Robin Wolter - I Mend Your Broken Heart
Jaren '50-doo wop in een jaren '80-jasje (een beetje in de stijl van Gerard Joling). Het is mij te glad en te overgeproduceerd om mij te charmeren als de oude doo-wop en de uitspraak is ook een minpunt om maar te zwijgen van die vreselijke hoge stem.
Cijfer: 3,5

28. Daryl Hall - Dreamtime
Een dicht gesmeerd geluid maar past tenslotte bij zijn krachtige zang en het refrein is tevens catchy.
Cijfer: 7

29. André Hazes - Piove
Een oude Italiaans nummer gecoverd door André Hazes. En het is niet slecht gedaan, hoor ik zelfs liever dan zijn smartlappen.
Cijfer: 6,5

30. Samantha Fox - Do Ya Do Ya (Wanna Please Me)
Arenarock dat te weinig om het lijf heeft en teveel moet hebben van de - nu gedateerde - productie met dichtsmerende synths, syndrums en voorspelbare gitaarsolo.
Cijfer: 3,5

Furniture blijft het uitstekend doen en is inmiddels op 5 te vinden.
