Het is weer eens veel te vol, met veel te veel goede recente muziek. En dan komt het allemaal in een file waarbij er nauwelijks noemenswaardige wijzigingen zich voordoen.

Toch is het een ijzersterk deelnemersveld, met hele goede nieuwe binnenkomers. Ik had van The Kinks een dergelijke prestatie niet meer verwacht, maar Ray Davies blijft nu eenmaal de man van de ongebreidelde talenten.

Wellicht zal Peter Gabriel een satanisch plezier hebben beleefd aan de verschillende releasedata in de verschillende landen. In de VS, nadat het deze week was uitgebracht, Big Time volgende week in de hitlijsten. En wij waren natuurlijk nog maar net aan Don't give up begonnen.

1. Europe - Rock the Night
Op Amerikaanse leest geschoeide hardrock van Zweedse band, niet erg speciaal maar prima, krachtige zang.
Cijfer: 6,5

14. Peter Gabriel - Don't Give Up (ft. Kate Bush)
De meeste duets in de jaren '80 zijn zoetsappig maar deze niet. Subtiel, ingetogen, melancholiek en warm mede dankzij de productie.
Cijfer: 9

18. Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Warriors of the Wasteland
Frankie Goes To Hollywood moest het steeds meer van de bombast dan van de inhoud maar dit zit nog net aan de goede kant wat ik van de meeste andere nummers uit Liverpool niet kan zeggen.
Cijfer: 6

24. Andre Hazes - Jij Bent Alles
Ja, een overbekend nummer coveren is de gemakkelijkste weg om te scoren. Het origineel van Peter Maffay is alles, dit is niets.
Cijfer: 3

25. Lee Towers - Golden Lady
Deze man moet het ook hebben van de (gladde) covers. Ik weet niet of dat een eigen nummer is of een cover maar zijn Sinatra-imitatie en zijn uitspraak liggen mij niet.

26. Henny Huisman - Later Als Je Groot Bent
Vooral bekend als presentator van de soundmixshow en aan dit nummer te horen had hij het beter alleen tot presenteren gelaten.
Cijfer: 3

27. Nick Kamen - Each Time You Break My Heart
Ritmisch heeft dat veel weg van Into the Groove van Madonna. Gladde 80's pop dat ermee door kan maar veel brengen deze zanger en dit nummer niet bij in de muziekwereld.

28. Kinderen voor Kinderen 7 - Ik ben toch zeker Sinterklaas niet
Als kinderliedje is dit niet onaardig en bij momenten best grappig, productioneel is het wat minder.

29. Frank Boeijen Groep - De verzoening
Een ingetogen nummer van Frank Boeijen maar met de nodige passie. Goed opgebouwd en emotioneel.

30. De Havenzangers - We gaan tot aan 't gaatje
Sommigen denken al in november aan carnaval. Om één keer te horen en dan te vergeten.

Don't give up had de nummer 1 in sneltreinvaart bereikt, maar moet die in zijn vijfde week alweer afgeven aan Silver moon, ook in zijn vijfde week.

Op 23 komen The Communards binnen met So cold the night. Iedereen kent de band van hun twee grote coverhits, maar de singles tussendoor zijn vaak nog beter, zeker deze. Voorzien van mysterieus-Oosterse klanken, maar ook van een stevige beat en natuurlijk de falsetvocalen van Jimmy Sommerville is het een ijzersterk nummer dat in de slipstream van Don't leave me this way nog een aardige hit kon worden.

Nog meer melodieuze rijkdom op 25. Red Box debuteert met For America, een vrolijk, van koortjes voorziene song waar niemand een hekel aan kan hebben (ik weet dat dit niet zo zal zijn, maar ik kan het me niet voorstellen).

Op 33 het titelnummer van Janet Jacksons actuele album Control. Swingend en superstrak geproduceerd, uiteraard ook met een uitbundige dansvideoclip. Het liedje is ook best aardig.

Op 34 weer een scherpe track van The The. Infected lijkt over AIDS te gaan, en Matt Johnson is ook niet bang voor een beetje gevoelig onderwerp, maar ik kan niet alle lyrics plaatsen. Wel is er een stevige beat waardoor dit in de disco niet zou misstaan.

Op 35 weer eens een single die ik niet kan terugvinden, uiteraard Nederlands. Ik herinner me Miracle van The Dame als vrij middle of the road, gezongen met hoge (dames)stem, maar verder kom ik niet.

U vraagt, wij zoeken .........




Aardig, maar ook niet meer dan dat als ik mijn bescheiden mening mag geven

Ha, een complete vrouwenband, dat wist ik niet meer. Het refrein kende ik nog wel. Inderdaad, aardig, erg hoog gaat hij niet scoren bij mij.

Maar dank voor het opsporen. Toch al zo'n 30 jaar niet meer gehoord...

Ik moet voor de zoveelste week achtereen verstek laten gaan. Excuses.

Vier nieuwkomers in de lijst waarvan de Simple Minds met Ghostdancing de hoogste is op 11, New Order, Spandau Ballet en Frankie Goes To Hollywood zijn de overige nieuwelingen.

Er is misschien een klein "bommetje" nodig om alle-hits-die-van-geen-wijken-weten weer eens flink door elkaar te husselen.
Slecht is het heus niet, maar forse stijgers, bedreigers van de bovenste plekken, ik ben er voor dit moment in 1986 naarstig naar op zoek.

The Smithereens neemt een mooi voorschot met een fraaie naderende hit voor donkere dagen. Maar ook dat is altijd maar tijdelijk.

Zes binnenkomers, waarvan de hoogste met kop en schouders boven de andere uitsteekt. Op 20 komt Genesis binnen met Land of confusion, een single waarmee ze kwaliteitsmuziek weten te paren aan een aanstekelijk refrein, actuele maatschappijkritiek en een hilarische videoclip (met dank aan Spitting Image). Geen wonder dat het een grote hit wordt. Hoewel de tekst serieus en onheilspellend is, raakt dit door de clip en door het koortje wat ondergesneeuwd. Dit werd later goedgemaakt door de cover van Disturbed.

Op 33 de laatste single van Frankie goes to Hollywood die nog de top 40 weet te halen. Warriors of the wasteland heeft het typische bandgeluid, maar de melodie blijft niet hangen en originaliteit is ver te zoeken.

Op 34 het debuut van Swing Out Sister (in mijn top 40). Breakout heeft frisse heldere vocalen en een vloeiende melodie. Een song waar niemand een hekel aan kan krijgen (zou ik denken).

Op 35 New Order met Bizarre love triangle. De sound is helemaal New Order, maar de melodie wil maar niet blijven hangen. Volgend jaar komt True faith uit, en dat verdringt als het ware deze song, waar verder weinig op aan te merken is.

Op 36 een eendagsvlieg uit Ierland, I can't dance van It's a Secret. Sindsdien nooit meer gehoord, tot ik hem dit jaar in een popquiz terughoorde (ik vermoed Berry's singletjes quiz). De bandnaam was ik vergeten, maar een teamgenoot wist hem minuten later nog op te hoesten. Geinig, maar meer ook niet.

Op 37 Frank Boeijen op zijn meest karakteristiek, een donkere, dramatische ballad met teksten waar alleen Frank mee weg kan komen. Het tekstfragment over 'die hyena, die jakhals' blijft aangrijpen.

1. Huey Lewis And The News - Hip To Be Square
Misschien niet erg bijzonder rocknummer maar de bluesy aanpak, smaakvolle arrangementen (orgel en blazers) en het erg vlotte ritme zorgen voor een hoog cijfer.
Cijfer: 8

17. MC Mike G DJ Sven - Celebration Rap
Na Holiday Rap met een samensmelting van Madonna's Holiday en Cliff Richards Summer Holiday doen ze gewoon hetzelfde met We Are Family van Sister Sledge en Celebration van Kool & the Gang.
Cijfer: 4

18. Centerfold - Radar Love
Van popklassiekers van zulk kaliber moet je gewoon afblijven, dat bewijst deze cover op een pijnlijke manier.
Cijfer: 4

21. Mel & Kim - Showing Out (Get Fresh At the Weekend)
Dit bestempel ik als een guilty pleasure. Weliswaar uit de Stock, Aitken & Waterman-stal maar onweerstaanbaar.
Cijfer: 7

25. Robert Long - Geef Ons Vrede
Tekstueel steeds tijdloos en goed voor eindejaar maar het melige refrein met kinderkoor staat wel haaks op de coupletten.
Cijfer: 6

26. Demis Roussos Nancy Boyd - Tropicana Bay
Klinkt exotisch door het ritme en Demis Roussos is ook goed bij stem, de arrangementen zijn helaas wat melig en een tikje gedateerd.
Cijfer: 6

27. Koos Alberts - Winter in mijn hart
Ook goed voor eindejaar maar zijn slijmerige zang en dito arrangementen steken mij zoals altijd tegen.
Cijfer: 3

28. Genesis - Land Of Confusion
Nog een van de betere Genesis-nummers in de jaren '80 door de opbouw, de drums en krachtige zang maar de productie had iets minder glad gemogen.
Cijfer: 7,5

29. It's A Secret - I Can't Dance
Kende ik niet (ik vind niets van deze band op MuMe), de folky viool valt het meeste op en redt het nummer nog enigszins want de zang en het goedkope refrein doen roet in het eten.
Cijfer: 5,5

30. Robbie Nevil - C'est La Vie
Een nummer dat ik niet gauw zal draaien maar ook niet dadelijk zal uitzetten wegens weinig opvallend. Typisch een nummer dat iedereen wel aardig vind maar niemand het tot zijn favorieten zal rekenen.
Cijfer: 5,5

Ik vind dit toch wel een 80's dance classic en eveneens hilarisch nummer, vanwege de enorm hysterische gil op de achtergrond bij refrein 2e keer, beetje Duran Duran esque actie uit Notorious tijdperk

Geen weeklijst van mij.
Ziet er naar uit dat ik de achterstand (vanaf week 43 meen ik) niet meer kan bijwerken.
Maar hopelijk aankomende week wat meer tijd om mogelijk terug aan te pikken.

Komt luigifort nog met een nieuwe lijst?

is het niet handiger om (weer?) een vaste tijd vast te stellen (bv zondags om 15.00 uur ofzo) en het te doen met de lijsten die wel zijn ingeleverd?
