Vijf lage binnenkomers, zoals te verwachten is rond de kersttijd. Toch zitten er wat aardige songs tussen. Op 30 de doorbraak naar het grote publiek voor Crowded House: ineens verschijnen ze in de top 10 met Don't dream it's over, inderdaad een erg aansprekend liedje, meeslepend, anthem-achtig bijna (don't let them win).
Op 32 een pareltje van Nederlands bodem, Nadieh met Windforce 11, een bijna sprookjesachtig liedje met een mysterieus begin. Werd toch wel een klein hitje.
Op 34 een wat stevigere single van a-ha, die al enkele jaren nu flink op dreef is. Cry wolf is inmiddels degelijk vakwerk, maar niet erg verrassend.
Op 38 Wang Chung dat er nog één keer een lekker dansbaar nummertje uit weet te persen, hun laatste hit.
En op 39 Berlin, in de slipstream van hun megahit Take my breath away. Like flames klinkt heel anders, uptempo, stevig, zwaar geproduceerd. Hierna heb ik niet veel meer van de band gehoord.
In mijn schrift van 24 december staan 5 tips, waarvan er volgende week vier binnenkomen. Alleen Driving home for Christmas haalt het dan niet (Kerst is dan net voorbij). In dit jaar was het voor het eerste kerstsingle, maar het haalde de top 40 niet, zelfs de tipparade niet, en leek snel in de vergetelheid te raken. Opmerkelijk dus dat het in de komende jaren toch gedraaid zou blijven worden en inmiddels tot de canon van de Kerstliedjes is gaan horen.

Tipparade-lijst van week 51, 1986 - top40.nl
1. Red Box - For America
Nooit veel met dit nummer gehad hoe goed bedoeld ook, te kitscherig en die jodelende koortjes irriteren mij mateloos.
Cijfer: 3,5
12. Communards - So Cold The Night
Dan veel liever dat nummer van Communards. Ik kan begrijpen dat de ijzige zang van Jimmy Somerville niet iedereen ligt maar hier past dat perfect bij de tekst en de sfeer dat een ijskoude winternacht inderdaad treffend weergeeft.

17. Erasure - Sometime
Hun grootste hit en ook hun beste, erg aanstekelijk nummer met doeltreffende vrouwenachtergrondzang.

23. Kim Wilde - You Keep Me Hangin' On
Een cover van de aloude hit van The Supremes. Klinkt mij te mechanisch en plastic, geef mij maar het origineel.

24. Micaela - La Isla Bonita
Nu een cover van Madonna, merkelijk minder goed gezongen dan Madonna. Voegt niets toe aan de muziekwereld.

25. Elton John & Cliff Richard - Slow Rivers
De twee stemmen lijken goed bij elkaar te passen, het nummer zelf en de productie zijn echter minder al is nog één van de betere nummers uit het zwakke Leather Jackets.

26. The Pointer Sisters - Goldmine
Ook van Pointer Sisters is dat niet bepaald hun meest memorabele song (het werd ook geen hit) al zijn de stemmen zoals altijd wel behoorlijk.

27. Nadieh - Windforce 11
Doet mij een beetje denken aan Earth & Fire door de sound en zang, toch wel een talentvolle zangeres die helaas te vroeg overleed.

28. The Pretenders - Hymn To Her
Een rustig nummer, naar een climax groeiend. Melodisch wat eenvoudig maar de zang en instrumentatie zijn zoals steeds herkenbaar en prima productie.

29. Golden Earring - They Dance
Geen beste Golden Earring met steriele drums en te scherpe blazers. Het nummer zelf is ook te weinig geïnspireerd en werd - begrijpelijk - geen hit.

30. Jaki Graham - Step Right Up
Slechte en te tijdsgebonden productie en doorsnee, vrij banale compositie, ook dit is snel vergeten.

Het jaaroverzicht is weer een feit, de 52 weeklijsten zijn samengevat in deze Top 100 en door ons zelf samengesteld.
R.E.M met het schitterende Fall On Me is als glorieuze winnaar uit de bus gekomen op de voet gevolgd door The Smiths die de nummer 2 en 3 in handen hebben.
The Smiths zijn sowieso zeer goed vertegenwoordigd in deze Top 100 met maar liefst 5 singles!
De (muziek) meningen lagen dit jaar wel ver uiteen, want maar 1 keer werden de 100 punten aangetikt en dat was al in week 5 door A-Ha met het nummer The Sun Always Shines On T.V. die te vinden zijn op nummer 7 in het jaaroverzicht.
Qua Nederpop producties een zeer kleine vooruitgang
want er staan zomaar 4 nummers in deze Top 100 en dat is wel eens anders geweest, de hoogste notering van Nederlandse bodem is Het Goede Doel met Alles Geprobeerd op nummer 16.
Met het plaatsen van deze jaarlijst komt er voor mij een eind aan dit topic.
Het was me een waar genoegen en voor degene die overblijven nog veel plezier met het lijstjes maken

1986 toch wel een van mijn (zo niet HET) favoriete muziekjaren ooit, en dat daar dan hier ook nog eens een perfecte top-3 uitrolt is natuurlijk helemaal mooi.

Dat maakt ook 1987 weer uiterst boeiend.

Op 35 een wonder van subtiliteit en spanning, The cutting edge van de Comsat Angels.
Op 37 weer een stemmig liedje, net geen kerstliedje, Stay with me till the morning, feitelijk een cover van Mozarts klarinetconcert. Melodie blijft sterk, al is het verder vrij klef natuurlijk.
En opvallend laag, op 38 zomaar Paul Simon met The boy in the bubble, een song die ik achteraf wel sterker vind dan You can call me Al. Kritische tekst, swingende Zuidafrikaanse muziek.
