Ik ben met m'n weeklijstjes gestopt na 1993 en heb via dit topic 'aangevuld' tot 1999, daarmee m'n favoriete decennium alsnog volgemaakt. Mooi geweest.

Herken het gevoel, al heb ik besloten nog even door te gaan. Dank voor je lijsten hier, en wellicht vind je het leuk om aan te sluiten in 1981?

Ik denk er nog over. Ik was het niet van plan maar even gekeken en er zijn toch best veel goede nummers die nu in de lijstjes staan en m'n ooit gemaakte top 20 van 1981 heeft ook veel geweldige nummers.

Erg jammer ranja dat je er helemaal mee stopt hier. Jouw leuke nummer 3 van Le Tigre heb ik maar meteen als hoogste nieuwe laten binnenkomen. Wat een leuk nummer is dat. Lene Marlin ook maar meteen meegenomen

R.E.M. had in deze periode een paar absolute topsingles met Imitation of Life en deze The Great Beyond. Deze single van de soundtrack van Man on the Moon (film over Andy Kaufman) gaat komend jaar vast nog hoge ogen gooien.

Lambchop heeft een wat unieke mix van somber klinkende indie en disco, een beetje zoals Arab Strap dat ook kan. Van Fiona Apple heb ik Fast As You Can op single, maar moest hem nu toch best horen voor 'ie in de buurt kwam van mijn top 40. Goed nummer, maar de echte klik is wel wat verdwenen. Kings of Convenience heb ik pas een paar jaar later opgepikt, eigenlijk pas nadat ik Erlend Oye solo heb leren kennen. Maar achteraf waren ze hier ook al goed bezig met hun prettig zijige liedjes.

Wellicht doet het hoesje sommige mensen pijn aan de ogen.
Maar ik heb die hele saga rond Kane nooit gevolgd, laat staan de opkomst en ondergang van de band. Nooit wat beluistert ook. Ook de recente reünie houd ik verre van mij. Ik heb op onze site (later) wel gelezen over de aversie en de negatieve reacties die de band nogal schijnt op te roepen. Vanaf album één staan de beoordelingen op onweer, zwaar onvoldoende, ik zou ook mijn gitaar in de wilgen hangen.

Ik was nog niet in de wetenschap dat ik ooit nog in een topic over het jaar 2000 terecht zou komen.

Dus toen ik de 'tip Kane' tegenkwam, was ik geneigd deze direct terzijde te schuiven. Zelfs zonder af te luisteren, wat met mijn tipsysteem eigenlijk verboden is. Daar is het niet voor in het leven geroepen.

Damn those eyes valt mij echter alleszins mee. Oké, de beoordelaars van het album verkiezen het nummer als het beste nummer van het eerste album dus het vervolg moeten we nog maar afwachten. Maar ik ga nog niet over tot afbranden, daar geeft Damn those eyes bepaald nog geen aanleiding voor.

Mijn jaaroverzicht van 1999, waarin ik 1 week miste door ziekenhuisopnamem dat kost Kristin wel 40 punten en Madder Rose en Eden ook meer dan 35 punten. Nou ja.

Een typische lijst uit de laatste dagen van het jaar, met slechts twee nieuwe tracks. Op 25 de Smashing Pumpkins met The everlasting gaze, waarin ze weer ouderwets van leer trekken; helaas vergaten ze hierbij om een herkenbare melodie in te voegen, zodat ik dit liedje allang vergeten was en het ook niets meer oproept.

Beter geslaagd is de tweede entry van de week, The Lightning Seeds met Life's too short. De song klinkt verrassend modern, erg dansbaar maar ook melodieus. Ook de videoclip valt op, dus waar het mis is gegaan? Misschien is de zanger niet opmerkelijk genoeg, anders zou ik het niet weten.

Op naar het derde millennium!

NB. Nummers met een * staan nog in de lijst genoteerd en zullen meestal nog wel meer punten gaan halen. Als alle 1999-platen uit mijn top 20 zijn verdwenen, maak ik de eindlijst van het decennium op.

Grootste ontdekkingen:
1. Tindersticks - Can We Start Again?
Tindersticks heb ik diverse cd's van huis en ook wel eens live gezien. Maar dit specifieke nummer kende ik nog niet. Voor mij kan het zich meten met de beste nummers die ik van ze ken.

2. Placebo - Without You I'm Nothing (ft. David Bowie)
Niet helemaal een ontdekking, want ik had hier zelfs de single van. Maar ik vond het ondanks dat ik Bowie-fan ben altijd een veel mindere versie dan het origineel. Maar dit jaar viel ineens het kwartje. Tevens is dit een van de weinige Placebo-songs die bij mij nog echt goed scoort, terwijl ik destijds wel een liefhebber was.

3.. Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - Spanish Dance Troupe
Een band uit Wales die destijds langs me heen is gegaan, ik kon nu eenmaal niet alles kopen. Via dit topic inmiddels al hun singles tot nu toe beluisterd en daar zitten wel een paar echte pareltjes bij. Dit is volgens mij hun bekendste nummer, maar ik heb het dit jaar pas echt leren kennen. Tof nummer over een schoolreis met zelfs wat Spaanse tinten in de muziek.

4. UA - スカートの砂
Japanse artiest die ik eigenlijk helemaal niet kende, behalve van de avatar van een (ex-)MuMe-gebruiker. Verder ben ik nog niet helemaal om bij deze artiest, maar dit is hele fijne artsy reggae pop.

5. Four Tet - Misnomer
Four Tet is inmiddels een hele grote naam, zelfs enkele collega's van in de 20 kennen hem van hun festivalbezoeken. Meestal weten zij niet dat hij in de jaren '00 meer aan de downtempo-kant met albums als Pause en Rounds waarmee ik hem destijds ontdekte. En ik wist weer niet dat hij zelfs daarvoor nog enkele uitstekende EP's/singles heeft uitgebracht, waarvan het jazzy Misnomer mijn favoriet is gebleken.

Zo zeg, die heb ik lang niet meer gehoord. Net weer eens volledig beluisterd. Je kunt zeggen, volledig "misplaatst" in die tijd. Blijft een fijn nummer.

Edit: En daar achteraan kwam via YouTube While I'm still strong. Die is mogelijk nog beter. Toch maar eens dat album volledig beluisteren van deze Zweedse band.
