Low op 2 en Beach House op 1, daar kan toch geen discussie over zijn?

Jammer, want ik denk wel dat ik in het linkerrijtje was geëindigd

Met 10 deelnemers staat iedereen in het rechterrijtje

Als Low het niet heeft gehaald, staat er niks van mijn top 20 in deze lijst.

Low stoomde vrijwel vanaf het begin op naar plek 2 - de koppositie bleef tamelijk buiten bereik. De beste prestatie van de groep, na 7 ('94), 24 ('01), 23 ('02) en 22 ('05).

Low maakte natuurlijk altijd wel goeie muziek, en week ook al eerder iets af om de paden niet teveel plat te treden. Maar deze is echt een spannende plaat te noemen.
Producer BJ Burton drukte al ietwat een stempel op Ones & Sixes, de voorganger van deze plaat, maar de samenwerking met de groep vindt op Double Negative echt een piek. De songwriting kent geen makke en de uitvoering is zeer geinspireerd en af en toe lekker verwrongen op de plaat gezet.

Nog steeds een trio, maar met Burton mag Low gezien worden als kwartet. Mimi zingt overigens af en toe hemels - brengt Mezzanine weer in herinnering.

Zeer fraaie plaat en lekker dat ie het tussen de pleaseriger albums goed redde.

Soeverein. He lekker dat woord weer eens van stal. Geregeld gebruikt bij dit spel, laatstelijk op een ander moment (27 jan jl.)
Na twee podiumplekken in '10 en '12 en twee plekken net buiten de top 10 in '15 is Beach House nu echt op het toppunt van haar roem.

B-Sides and Rarities kwam twee jaar terug uit als cleaning out the closet en dus zette Beach House zich aan een vernieuwd creatief proces. En ging dat proces in met ook een verse producer: Peter Kember, prominent lid van Spacemen 3 - toen dat nog bestond, nu bekend onder zijn producersnaam Sonic Boom.

Anders dan de eerdere platen nam Beach House nu flink de tijd voor het schrijven en opnemen. In 5 ‘mini-sessies’ over geheel 2017 werden kleine aantallen songs vastgelegd. Begonnen als jonge muzikanten maakten Scally en Legrand nu bewuste keuzes dat een aantal bekende mechanismen ingesleten waren, maar niet meer bij ze pasten. Zoals het principe van: ‘we moeten het wel live kunnen spelen’.

Over de wording van het album: ”7 often deals with the beauty that arises in dealing with darkness; the empathy and love that grows from collective trauma; the place one reaches when they accept rather than deny." Zo zeg…
En: "There is quite a bit of chaos happening in these songs, and a pervasive dark field that we had little control over. The discussions surrounding women's issues were a constant source of inspiration and questioning. The energy, lyrics and moods of much of this record grew from ruminations on the roles, pressures and conditions that our society places on women, past and present. The twisted double edge of glamour, with its perils and perfect moments, was an endless source."

Ja lekker. Fijne plaat. Ik was BH nogal beu aan het geraken, maar deze geeft de burger moed.
