Das Leiden GrafGantz: dat is toch Duits jouw username?

Vind ik toch een grote verrassing. Radiohead stond bijna met alle albums op 1 in dit spelletje en nu zouden ze volledig de top 10 missen. De koning is een minder album van hen in vergelijking met andere klassiekers maar zet ik toch nog regelmatig op.

Ik heb undun maar weer terug in mijn top 10 allertijden gezet. Na de fantastische hiphop volgt de wonderschone afsluiter, die dus eigenlijk het begin is. Wow, wat een plaat!

Ik zag die titel inderdaad. Maar mijn school Duits zei das Leiden en dat vind je dan hier weer terug:

Spinvis zal toch redelijk adequaat zijn voorspeld, want doet het altijd goed in dit gezelschap. Begon rond plekkie 10 en steeg fluks naar het podium om halverwege steady positie 2 te bewonen.

Tot ziens, Justine Keller is een romantisch popalbum waar lang en zorgvuldig aan is gewerkt. De arrangementen zijn vrolijk en luchtig, de nummers, in tekstueel kenmerkende Erik de Jong-stijl, bevatten vele onderwerpen, invalshoeken en nog meer observaties. Maar vooral de liefde komt aan bod op dit album. In veel van haar verschijningen en metaforen. Als roes of vergif, als noodlot of als de Dood zelf. Alomtegenwoordig is de figuur Justine Keller. Justine is de personificatie van de liefde en door het album heen is de Jong als een moderne Orpheus op zoek naar haar.

Het album werd opgenomen in Het Vaticaan te Nieuwegein gedurende de periode december 2010 tot en met augustus 2011. Veel van de nummers kwamen voorbij in zijn theatershow "De Weerman" die hij in de loop van 2011 in theaters door heel Nederland speelde.

Spinvis vind ik erg leuk, maar een heel album gaat me irriteren.

En alweer 20 punten, en ik neem aan dat ik de nummer 1 ook correct voorspeld heb

Prachtige top-2, en ook precies mijn top-2

ik 19 punten, dan zal de volgende ook wel weer 19 punten zijn.

Verder heb ik niets positiefs te melden over deze nummer 2

Justine Keller is samen met het album dat wellicht hierna volgt de enige albums die alle deelnemers hadden voorspeld.
10 voorspelden hem in de top 3 (vigil zag hem zelfs bovenaan eindigen) en vijf voorspelden hem correct op de 2de plaats. Hoe deze initieel totaal onvoorspelbare lijst toch nog een redelijk voorspelbaar einde kent. Maak jullie klaar voor een sterrenregen.

Zelfs dit album, dat zo overduidelijk als sterkste van dit jaar wordt gezien, startte wat traag. De juiste versnelling was al snel gevonden en razendsnel werd met topposities de voorsprong op de rest enorm.

Harvey begon al snel na het White Chalk album met het schrijven van teksten, geïnspireerd door ‘het conflict’ en had zich daartoe verdiept in de slag om Gallipoli en hedendaagse verslagen van burgers en soldaten in Irak en Afghanistan. Daarnaast liet ze zich qua stijl beïnvloeden door Pinter en Eliot, qua sfeer door Goya en Dali en wat betreft de muziek door The Doors, The Velvet Underground en The Pogues. Dan moet er wel iets deugdelijks uitkomen.

Ze had, eind jaren zero, liefde opgevat voor de autoharp en had tijdens enkele solo optredens nummers op dit instrument te berde gebracht. Hierover sprak zij: "I was really enjoying this different, enormous, wide breadth of sound that the autoharp gives. It's quite a delicate sound, but it's also like having an entire orchestra at your fingertips. I began by writing quite a lot on the autoharp, and then slowly as time went by, (because this album was written over two and a half years)… my writing started moving into experimenting with different guitars, and using different sound applications, ones that I had never really experimented with."

Na een lang schrijfproces werd gedurende ruim 5 weken, in 2010, een kerk in Dorset (UK) gebruikt om het album op te nemen met vaste kompanen John Parish, Mick Harvey en Flood. De opnames kennen een live-achtig karakter, PJ:
"I wanted to leave room for them so they could bring their feelings into it as well. Usually I would have planned everything and known what instrumentation I wanted. This time I demoed the songs mostly with one or two instruments with a voice and that was as much as I had. So I basically had the chords and a couple of saxophone melodies, a couple of voice melodies and that was what I took with me to the church. We rehearsed the songs as if we were rehearsing to play them live and found quite quickly that we had only rehearsed a song through maybe twice and Flood had started recording us."

Het is PJ's zangstemstijl op dit album die voor mij de grootste pretbederver is. Niet voor mij dus, deze.
