De primary release op RYM bepaalt in welk jaaroverzicht die geplaatst wordt. Zo is dit dus volgens RYM "#623 for 1973". Het klopt natuurlijk niet dat de primary release later is dan andere versies maar zo staat het er nu een keer (wordt hopelijk opgelost met de nieuwe versie van RYM, ooit)

Ik gebruik die lijst alleen maar om te controleren of ik niet iets vergeten ben. Mijn TOP20 controleer ik door te zoeken op de single zelf.

Ik kijk eerst in m'n eigen collectie, vanaf 1977-78 zo'n beetje zal dat misschien wel voldoende zijn. Maar zeker in dit soort jaren niet. Dus dan kijk ik in die lijst wat ik daar tegen kom. Mocht ik dan het gevoel hebben dat ik nog wat mis kijk ik nog in het jaaroverzicht van de top 40 van het jaar op top40web en dat is het dan wel.

Het blijft een moeilijke discussie. Wat RYM aangeeft, is de releasedatum van de single per land. Soms alleen het jaar, soms de maand er bij, soms ook de dag.
Dat kan per land dus verschillen. Als je er gezamenlijk iets mee doet, kun je er verschillende afspraken over maken. Bijvoorbeeld de eerste datum als release datum aan te houden of alleen maar de releasedatum in Nederland.
Het blijft op die manier wel opletten bij RYM en al helemaal als ze van mening verschillen met andere naslagwerken!

In de ladder zouden we zeggen dat die 3 singles elkaar behoorlijk in de weg hebben gezeten. Een ervaren automobilist als dix kiest dan het midden.

Toch wel een verrassende nummer één wat mij betreft. Ik dacht dat Inner City Blues de belangrijkste Marvin Gaye troef zou zijn. Wel mooi om What's Going On bovenaan te zien staan, blijft een iconische song. Sowieso een uitstekende eindlijst dit jaar .

Bedankt zaaf, op naar nog zo'n goed souljaar.

Dat klopt, en 1 van die releases wordt tot 'primary' benoemd - vaak degene die als eerste toegevoegd is, zeker bij dit soort oude singles in de tijd dat er nog geen meerdere issues mogelijk waren bij RYM.
Die primary bepaalt ook in welke jaarlijst van RYM die komt. Dan is het dus wel onhandig als er later andere issues worden toegevoegd met een eerdere releasedatum. Dat zou dan gefixt moeten worden maar dat gaat niet zo snel helaas (ooit had ik die rechten zelf maar al een poos niet meer) en met de nieuwe site op komst misschien ook niet perse nuttig.

Oké, ik zie net van the Rolling Stones, het wel aardige wat uitgekauwde Wild Horses op 13 staan en de tijdloze klassieker Brown Sugar op 27? Best moeilijk te volgen voor deze Stones fan.
