Tijd voor de verzoekjes.

Dit Detroitse Doo-Wop duo nam een paar singles op die lokaal werden uitgebracht door een grote speler in de niet-landelijke muziekscène. Mike Hanks runde verschillende labels en probeerde tussen 1959 en 1968 zoveel mogelijk groepen singles te laten opnemen. Hij was een lokale concurrent van Motown, met het grootste verschil dat die laatste landelijk wist te scoren en uiteindelijk de geschiedenisboeken inging als één van de bekendste labels ooit.

Hanks werkte vooral met lokale mensen die liedjes wilden opnemen. Zoals bijvoorbeeld moeder en dochter Clara en Sherri Taylor. Omdat in die tijd alle Doo-Wop- / vocalgroepen die geen echte bandnaam hadden 'Tones' achter hun naam kregen, geschiedde dit ook zo bij deze dames. 

Sherri gebruikt de Taylor Tones als opstapje. Ze ging solo en belandde zelfs bij Motown. Sterker nog: een van de eerste songs door een vrouw bij Motown, en een van de eerste duetten die Motown opnam, staan op naam van Sherri Taylor.

De bodem van de Top 400 geeft duidelijk aan dat we niet zo gecharmeerd zijn van Nederlandstalig, Duitstalig en... Spike Jones.

Ik zal eens zoeken naar een Nederlandse novelty-artiest die in het Duits zingt: gewoon om jullie te sarren.

Dit is wel een alleraardigst moppie.

De Nederlands- en Duitstalige songs krijgen er inderdaad van langs, en met 3 songs bij de laatste 6 plekken is 1966 ook niet al te geliefd.

Stuur me vooral jouw verzoekje door (geldt voor iedereen), daar wordt het klassement alleen maar diverser en persoonlijker door.

Het 2e verzoekje:

Het zal geen verrassing zijn dat dit nummer werd geschreven door Ray Davies. De man schreef veruit het merendeel van de songs voor zijn band. Deze song was één van de songs die over hem en zijn broer Dave ging. De twee hadden totaal andere persoonlijkheden en ook al leidde dat tot veel mooie dingen, leidde het ook tot veel spanningen en ruzies. 

We horen trouwens Nicky Hopkins op de harpsichord. Nicky horen we wel vaker op platen voorbij komen, bijvoorbeeld op Sympathy for the Devil van de Stones, My Generation van The Who en Matthew and Son van Cat Stevens.

Beetje wat flauwer liedje van de Kinks. Die harpichord moet het een soort klassiek sausje geven: 6,8

de Two sisters zijn hier inderdaad 'n metafoor voor de broertjes Davies.

Ray was al gesetteld met vrouw en kinderen, terwijl Dave de rockstar uithing in Swinging London.
Prachtig stukje storytelling in twee minuten en biezonder fraai gezongen. De harpischord geeft precies het goede folkachtige en licht psychedelische tintje aan de song. 8,8

Precies wat mijn bovenbuurman zegt. En dan heb ik uit persoonlijk oogpunt ook nog 'een zwak' voor The Kinks.
