Klein aanloopje en vanaf maandag stevig in het zadel. De eerste lady-winner!! Gefeliciteerd Kate, ik zal kijken of ik een manier kan vinden dit enorme succes met je te delen.

Kate was 15, had al een flinke hoeveelheid songs geschreven en begon ze op de band te zetten. 
Een vriend van de familie had een baantje bij Transatlantic Records en was wel eens in aanraking geweest met David Gilmour. Toen Gilmour het bandje hoorde was hij onder de indruk en gaf haar de studiotijd (in de periode dat Wish You Were Here werd geconcipieerd) om een demo van betere kwaliteit te maken. Ook liet hij die tape aan EMI-baas Bob Mercer horen en na wat aandringen werd Kate onder contract gebracht bij EMI.
Ze ging op toer met haar songs om te zien hoe het publiek reageerde, dit deed ze met haar broer Paddy en wat van zijn vrienden. Beetje bij beetje kreeg ze een indruk van wat voor plaat ze wilde maken. EMI wilde dat dat met 'echte' muzikanten ging gebeuren, deze werden voor de opnames in de zomer van '77 aan haar toegewezen en waren afkomstig uit de band Pilot en uit Cockney Rebel.

Ter gelegenheid van de opening van het Spookslot in de Efteling werd op 12 mei 1978 een tv-special met Bush uitgezonden. Het was haar eerste televisieoptreden. De opnames vonden onder meer plaats in en rondom de te openen spookruïne. Daar staat nu een (namaak)grafsteen met de naam Kate erop.

Ja dit is natuurlijk een debuut van jewelste. En er zou nog veel fraais volgen. Wat een talent en ze ziet er nog leuk uit ook. Ik zet haar ieder jaar weer op mijn verlanglijstje.

Mijn persoonlijke top 3 (Boss, Blondie, Bush) hebben het gehaald.

Hounds of Love is vééééél beter.

Ik vind het wel leuk dat hier eindelijk eens een vrouw wint. Een goed teken voor Hillary.

Ik had toch liever dat de beste gewonnen had, maar goed
