Scott Walker komt met maar liefst 2 nummers tegelijk de top 20 binnen. Jackie is mooi, maar het is slechts een cover van een prachtig chanson.

Ik zag dat My Death ook een cover is van Brel:

Ik vind alle versies van beide songs mooi... 2 grote artiesten.

Luister ook eens naar mijn nummer 22: Claude François' Comme d'Habitude.

Als het je lukt om in gewijzigde volgorde dezelfde top 3 te behouden dan vind ik het ook goed.

Ik heb steeds de grootste moeite om die Franse Barclay singles te dateren.
De datering van discogs op januari 1967 klopt zeker niet wat betreft het catalogusnummer en ik heb deze veilig op augustus 1967 gezet.
Over Scott Walker gesproken: hij zingt deze weer in 1969 als "Sons Of".

Om het cirkeltje rond te maken met de vrolijke hippie van Justus en een andere moeilijke Franse Barclay single.
Vanwege het LSD-effect geïnspireerd door Lucy in the Sky with diamonds van the Beatles maar uiteindelijk toch uitgebracht in november 1967.

Ik had hem uit de index.

Volgens 45cat heeft ie catalogusnummer 60800 heeft en hier zie ik dat een promo van Brel's Le Bonbon met 60799 op 10 februari uitkwam. Releases 60794 (Aznavour) en 60831 (Dalida) zijn ook uit februari, dus wellicht Le Fils ook wel. Ik ben in ieder geval blij dat ik hem niet over het hoofd heb gezien, want het is een fraai nummer.

Op deze Russische site hebben ze het zelfs over 26 januari 1967, maar ik heb geen idee hoe ze daarbij komen.

De volgorde lijkt bij Barclay vaak meer in de opnamedatum dan in de releasedatum te zitten.

Bij Brel is er begin januari deze LP uitgebracht en Barclay heeft in februari drie singlereleases gereserveerd op nummer om ze later dat jaar uit te brengen. 60798 voor Les Coeurs Tendres / Mon Pere Disait, 60799 voor Les Bonbons 1967 / La Chanson Des Vieux Amants en 60800 voor Fils De... / Le Cheval.
Ik weet alleen de exacte datums niet maar op basis van Franse tijdschriften/sites en hitparade informatie heb ik de eerste op juni geschat en de laatste twee op augustus.
Essentieel daarbij was dat ik ergens gelezen heb dat Barclay deze singles pas heeft uitgebracht nadat Brel in mei 1967 zijn voorlopig laatste liveoptreden voor de eerstkomende jaren had gegeven. Opvallend is dat ze 60817 La, La, La / Le Gaz al wel in maart uitbrachten.

Ook de singles van Jean Ferrat 60885 À Santiago , 60884 Ce Qu'on Est Bien Mon Amour , 60887 Cuba Si, 60890 Excusez-moi, 60889 Les Guerilleros en die van Dalida 60866 La Banda, 60867 À Qui ? zijn op verschillende data uitgegeven. À Santiago en Les Guerilleros zijn bijvoorbeeld van 1968 en Cuba si van 1967.

Fraai zoekwerk. Dat op voorhand catalogusnummers werden gereserveerd had ik me nooit gerealiseerd.

En soms moet je het inderdaad ook hebben van tekstuele info om een indicatie te krijgen. Bij Franse artiesten is me ook wel eens opgevallen dat 45cat wel de releasedata in België heeft i.t.t. die in Frankrijk. En een enkele keer heeft een Wikipagina in een vreemde taal (niet het Engels of Nederlands) ineens een precieze datum.

Ijzersterke binnenkomers waarvan nota bene vier in de top 20. Wat mij betreft alle vier klassiekers.

Maar laat ik dit keer stilstaan bij de grootste stijger binnen mijn top 40. The Dells op nr. 18 die in 1968 een fraai album gaan uitbrengen onder dezelfde naam als hun huidige single. Daar hebben ze dan ook maanden over gedaan en daar staat het origineel op van Jackie Wilsons "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher". Dat origineel vind ik overigens wel wat minder dan de cover van Jackie maar die haalde bij mij dan ook moeiteloos de eerste plaats dit jaar in de top 40. En verder staat er ook op dit album de fraaie single die in 1968 uitkomt "Wear It on Your Face" en "Stay in My Corner" een re-issue van die mooie single uit 1965.
Wat je ook van het album mag vinden, het verdient in ieder geval meer stemmen dan het huidige aantal (twee).

Is er voor 1967 een equivalent van dit boek waarbij elke maand uit het jaar wordt uitgelicht en behandeld?

Misschien hebben jullie goede suggesties maar wat mij betreft is het beste equivalent:
1967: A Complete Rock Music History of the Summer of Love van Harvey Kubernik
Kubernik behandelt in 1967 niet alleen de zomermaanden want voor alle duidelijkheid. The Summer of love duurt het hele jaar en begint in januari en eindigt in december.
En dat doet hij met nog raadselachtiger titels dan Savage: "January, Aboard the Frigate" tot December: "Psychedelic Supermarket".

In het boek van Savage over 1966 wordt elke maand voorzien van de nodige singletracks. Dat doet Kubernik voor het hele jaar. En omdat er in 1967 veel meer LP's worden verkocht besteed hij daar ook nog aandacht aan met een voor hem relevant lijstje.

Jammer dat herman vorige maand net jarig is geweest maar misschien heeft hij het boek inmiddels al op de plank.
En anders is het wellicht wat voor de kerst?

Maar mocht het allemaal niet lukken.
Ik zal alle tracks uit het boek ook hier voorbij laten komen. Zoals hierboven nr.3 van The Youngbloods en nr. 21 van het Charles Lloyd Quartet, een echte Jazz single.

Julie Driscoll met "Save me" die onze top 20 haalde komt ook in het boek voorbij. Maar die kan ik hier nog niet voorbij laten komen want het is pas in de volgende index oktober (een "Autumn shade of pale" aldus Kubernik).
Julie's inspiratiebronnen nr. 52 en nr. 26 komen wel al voorbij. Gloria heb ik trouwens pas in 1967 leren kennen toen het een A-kant werd. In dit topic was het als B-kant al een megahit in 1964.

We zitten weer op schema.
Op 18 maart 2018 hoop ik het jaar 1967 af te sluiten met 2144 singletracks. Maar het kunnen er ook iets meer of minder worden, het worden er in ieder geval 2000+.
Ooit ben ik begonnen met oktober 1965 en we zijn nu aanbeland in oktober 1967.
We zitten momenteel in 1967 bijna al op 1500 singletracks. En sinds oktober 1965 bijna op 4000 singletracks.

In de maand februari zal ik ook nog een aantal LP-lijstjes publiceren. Met deze LP lijstjes krijg je een behoorlijk goed beeld van bijna alle muziek van 1967 en kom je zeker op 3000+ tracks voor dat jaar.
Off topic informatie voor de ware singleliefhebber die dit natuurlijk kan overslaan.

Sommige singletracks staan op LP en worden later op single uitgebracht zoals we dat zien bij diverse tracks (5,17) van Aretha Franklin in de vorige index.
Bij andere komen de singletracks later op LP. Een voorbeeld daarvan is The Who bijvoorbeeld nr. 53. De B-kant van de A-kant uit index 19 nr. 20, ook een toekomstige LP-track.
Die komt pas op zijn vroegst in december 1967 op de LP "Sell out" in de verkoop.
Een erg leuk interessant boekje over deze LP: The Who Sell Out van John Dougan.

En nieuw:

Vorige maand was ik bij een popquiz waarin Arme Joe van Noordkaap langskwam. De bonusvraag was van wie het origineel was. Ik had geen idee, maar een teamgenoot wel. Nu komt het nummer hier langs. Ik had een heel ander beeld bij Will Tura, ik dacht meer dat het een soort Vlaamse Koos Alberts was ofzo. maar Arme Joe doet me meer aan teenage tragedy songs als Leader of the Pack denken. Een mooie simpele tekst met een titel die een steeds dramatischer lading krijgt.

Ik moest hem een paar keer horen, want ik hoorde eerst meer Sinatra dan François en dat terwijl die van Sinatra uit 1969 stamt. Maar uiteindelijk vind ik dit wel een heel mooi nummer.

Ik zal het in 2018 gaan luisteren; ben benieuwd. Wear It On Our face vind ik geweldig, is bij mij ook een ex-nummer 1 in dit topic. There Is is in ieder geval weer een heerlijk een soulnummer.

Daar ben ik mede debet aan, aangezien ze hier niet verder kwamen dan een 24ste plaats en deze week uit de lijst vallen. Ik vind het wel een mooi statig nummer en het was ook één van de eerste jaren '60 nummers die ik leerde kennen (begin jaren '90 via Veronica's Top 100 Aller Tijden), maar voor mij is het ook weer niet zo'n ultieme klassieker. Maar misschien komt dat ook doordat ik niet echt een liefhebber van progressieve rock ben en daar is dit wel een voorloper van.

Sommige topicverlaters weten wellicht nog niet wat ze gaan missen of wat ze gemist hebben. Neem mijn hoogste binnenkomer Traffic op nr. 23:
Het juweeltje " Heaven Is in Your Mind" werd destijds door Heicro (2012) niet in zijn lijstjes opgenomen. Wellicht dat hij deze release die uitsluitend in Canada uitkwam over het hoofd zag. Of was zijn schatkistje (top 15) al te vol? Deze single is exact de bonustrack in mono die op de CD van Mr. Fantasy staat.

En ik vermoed dat mijn één na hoogste, op nr. 24, Tim Buckley, bij johan de witt hoge ogen gescoord had. Dit is de Amerikaanse release die maanden voor de Britse release uitkwam.

Van Jimmy Hendrix heb ik de Duitse release (Foxy lady) en niet de Amerikaanse release (Foxey Lady) zoals herman die heeft opgenomen. De Duitse heeft het uitstekende Manic depression op de B-kant staan en dat geeft deze single een extra boost.

Tenslotte nog een merkwaardige keuze die eigenlijk al sinds eind oktober uit is en die al heel lang bij de tips stond: "The Bare Necessities / I Wan'na Be Like You" op nr. 37. Mogelijk een "guilty pleasure" in dit gezelschap maar ik ben dol op Walt Disney's Junglebook. Een eerbetoon aan de meester die tijdens het maken van deze film kwam te overlijden.

Op nummer 14 een Britse band die pas in 1974 bij het single kopend publiek (voornamelijk jeugd) zal aanslaan. Opmerkelijk dat ze met hun eerste single met zo'n typische 1967-titel aankomen.

Een goede en voor velen al bekende tip.
Maar er is bij Marzi ook veel ergernis over deze Tjechische site.
De releasedata kloppen vaak niet en voor de Britse hitnoteringen hanteert de websitebeheerder de verschijningsdatum van de Amerikaanse hitlijsten. Zo is de releasedatum van deze week niet 20 december 1967 maar 23 december 1967. Miroslav had toch moeten weten dat die Britten dol zijn op afwijken!

Opmerkelijk is dat in de Ultimate Music Database - lijst van 31 december 1966 alles stilstaat terwijl de echte lijst van 29 december 1966 grote verschuivingen kent.

Dat is zeker waar maar voor de Britse hitnoteringen is er ook nog een heel overzichtelijk boek: The Virgin Book of Top 40 Charts (Virgin Books). Hierin staan alle UK top 40-en in tot 2009. Daarmee heb je fraai vergelijkingsmateriaal met de Amerikaanse Top 40 en de Nederlandse top 40. Overigens bevat de Britse top 40 in 1967 zo'n 231 nieuwkomers, de Nederlandse zo'n 254 en de Amerikaanse top 40 wint het dat jaar met 321 nieuwkomers.
Ze zullen allemaal voorbijkomen in de indexen.

In de pre-historische top was een nominatie van mij een liedje uit Dumbo. In mijn gezelschap is dit dus geen "guilty pleasure".

Prachtig, maar misschien nooit op single uitgebracht. De versie van Louis Prima kan ik nergens vinden; heb je een link Marzipaintree?
Ik ben opgegroeid met deze versie:



Dat vond ik als kind een fantastisch nummer en nu ik het terug hoor lijkt het wel alsof het mijn muzieksmaak voor een belangrijk deel heeft bepaald. Hier zit zoveel in.

De door mij gekozen single bevat de originele stemmen van Jungle Book. De A-kant bevat alleen Phil Harris en op de B-kant komt Louis Prima erbij. Phil Harris is in de originele film Baloo (de grijze bruine beer) en King Louie is Louis Prima, de Orang Oetan die voor koning speelt en heel erg van feesten houdt. Ze hadden eerst Louis Armstrong op het oog voor de aap maar in 1967 vonden ze die combinatie met een Afro-Amerikaan niet zo geslaagd.

In de Nederlandse uitvoering is Lex Goudsmit beer Baloe en is Willem Duyn koning Lowietje.

Phil Harris kennen we ook nog van het mysterieuze "The Thing" uit november 1950. Onduidelijk was wat het ding was maar duidelijk was wel dat niemand het wilde hebben. De Nederlandse uitvoering van het orkest zonder naam leidde begin 1951 tot massale opkomsten van nieuwsgierige mensen naar het strand omdat men dacht dat men daar het geheim ging onthullen. Je kunt het onder deze link terugvinden. Er is niet zoveel hit-documentatie over 1951 maar ik ben er bijna zeker van dat dit de grootste hit in Nederland van dat jaar was.

De 2 klassiekers, die deze week binnenkomen, worden nipt overtroffen door een EP van The Beatles als hoogste binnenkomer. Ik gun iedereen zijn vrijheid en de punten worden gewoon meegeteld, maar hoe goed die EP ook is, mijn lijstje zal het nooit halen. Op de EP kun je op MuMe stemmen, maar op singles niet. En bij mijn singles top 20 geldt natuurlijk het omgekeerde.
En kijk de hoes eens; zien we daar niet een walrus? Die staat toch gewoon op 1!
