Een 7e plaats met een gemiddelde van 8,315 in onze lange lijst van inmiddels 248 nummers.
The Midnighters staan 140 plaatsen lager met een gemiddelde van 7,238.

Om een baby te krijgen moet Annie eerst aan het werk. Er zaten daarom zo'n 9 maanden tussen "Work with me Annie" en "Annie had a baby".

Ook bij Buddy Holly twijfelde ik tussen A- en B-kant van de single. De B-kant Not fade away heb ik leren kennen via the Rolling Stones. En deze B-kant is eigenlijk niet veel slechter dan Oh Boy. Maar Not fade away staat niet op mijn shortlist.
En wellicht vinden jullie dat juist deze gekozen had moeten worden.

Mijn shortlist begint trouwens op te raken. Daarom mogen jullie hem aanvullen.
Aan het eind van dit jaar stop ik met de 50smeter.

Mijn shortlist bestaat nu nog uit zo'n 12 nummers. Welke dat zijn dat verklap ik nog niet (er worden er wel straks twee geplaatst). Die 12 nummers komen sowieso nog voorbij om op te stemmen.

Daarnaast heb ik nog een longlist van meer dan 1000 nummers. Ik vraag jullie tot en met 23 november maximaal 10 nummers aan de longlist toe te voegen.
Die nummers kunnen jullie gewoon op het topic plaatsen.
Als jullie daarmee een nummer uit mijn shortlist raden dan laat ik dat alsnog weten.
De overige nummers plaats ik op de longlist erbij.

In de tweede ronde die vanaf zondag 24 november begint mag iedereen één keer een eerste keuze en één keer een tweede keuze geven aan alle nummers uit die longlist. Ook dat mag via het topic. Een PM mag ook maar is minder handig omdat je dan niet kan zien welke nummers al gekozen zijn.
Een eerste keuze nummer gaat dan naar de shortlist, de lijst met nummers die beoordeeld gaan worden. De tweede keuze nummers niet tenzij een andere deelnemers deze ook als tweede keuze heeft. Dan gaat die ook naar de shortlist.

Dat betekent dat bij deelname van 10 deelnemers er minimaal 10 nummers naar de shortlist gaan en maximaal 15 als iedereen zijn/haar tweede keuze ook met een ander deelt.
Nummers die maar 1 keer als tweede keuze worden opgegeven blijven op de long list staan.
Deze ronde duurt tot 30 november.

Daarna komen in december alle nummers aan bod die door jullie alsnog op de shortlist zijn gezet.
Tot die tijd blijf ik de nummers die al op de shortlist staan plaatsen maar als het bij de huidige shortlist blijft zijn we begin december al klaar met de 50smeter.
En als we de kerst nog halen dan plaats ik ook nog als bonus twee kerstnummers (die ik als reserve op de shortlist heb staan).

Ik ben ooit opgegroeid in het Gelderse plaatsje Apeldoorn.
Nou ja, plaatsje. Het wordt ook wel het grootste dorp van Nederland genoemd.

Eigenlijk is Den Haag dat. Maar die noemen zich al sinds de sixties "muziekstad nummer één" en zijn sindsdien de titel "grootste dorp" kwijtgeraakt.

Apeldoorn is echter een dorp waar niets te doen was. Boswandelingen waren zo'n beetje het spannendste wat mogelijk was.
In de jaren 70 was er slechts één café op al die 140.000 inwoners en die sloot al om 11 uur. Er was geen dancing of disco. En er was één bioscoop.

Er was één platenzaak waar ik als twaalfjarig jongetje een gedrukt exemplaar van de top 40 haalde. Daar kreeg ik dan te horen dat ik eigenlijk eerst een singletje moest kopen.
Maar als je dat al van plan was dan bleek minstens drie kwart van de top 40 uitverkocht of niet te leveren door die winkel.

Ze hadden in Apeldoorn wel zo'n vijf winkels waar je uit een ruim gesorteerde voorraad je postzegelverzameling kon aanvullen, dus dat werd mijn grootste hobby destijds.
Jullie begrijpen nu waarom ik hier mijn halfverloren jeugd alsnog probeer in te halen.

Het TV-programma "Andere tijden" heeft ooit van mijn dorp een special gemaakt (klik). Want in 1956 braken er zware rellen uit in Apeldoorn. De burgermeester had besloten de film 'Rock Around the Clock' te verbieden.
Na dagenlange onrust werd de film alsnog beloofd en vertoond in Apeldoorn.

Ik heb de rellen niet meegemaakt. Pas daarna ben ik verwekt en geboren. Toen alles allang weer rustig was in mijn slaapdorp, als vanouds.
Mijn moeder heette overigens geen Annie.

Platters - Only You (And You Alone) (1955)

In een ander Gelders dorp Hedel (zeker 50 keer kleiner dan Apeldoorn) woonden eind jaren 50 de Tielman Brothers. Oorspronkelijk kwamen ze uit Nederlands-Indie en zij maakten misschien wel de eerste echte Engelstalige Nederlandse Rock and Roll plaat. Die plaat kreeg gigantisch negatieve kritieken. Het had verboden moeten worden!
Maar nog altijd zijn deze broers legendarisch vanwege hun pionierschap.
