Vandaag een van de meest bekende post-punk/new wave songs aller tijden. Misschien compleet stuk gedraaid en daardoor laag scorend, maar in elk geval een klassieker uit het genre. Behoeft ook geen nadere toelichting. Of is er iemand onder jullie die niet weet wat Bloody Sunday is? Nou vooruit, Bloody Sunday vond plaats op 30 januari 1972 in Derry. Op die dag werden 14 jongens tijdens een vreedzame demonstratie neergeschoten door Engelse soldaten, omdat deze mars verboden was. De dag geldt als dieptepunt van The Troubles, de burgeroorlog in Noord-Ierland tussen op Ierland gerichte katholieken en op Engeland gerichte protestanten. Om hier een pakkende song over te schrijven, kun je wel aan Bono overlaten.

Frontman Danny Elfman leidde eind jaren 70 een dadaïstische toneelgroep, genaamd " The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo ". In de kunstwereld overigens bekender dan de latere rockband, die relatief weinig succes had. De muziek, die ze maken is erg druk en levendig, waarbij vooral de blazers sectie een vooraanstaande rol speelt. In 1995 werd Oingo Boingo opgeheven, want Danny Elfman had een nieuwe bezigheid gevonden. Film scores maken. Hij is uitgegroeid tot een van de meest vooraanstaande namen op dat gebied als huiscomponist van Tim Burton (oa. Batman, Edward Scissorhands), Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting) en Sam Raimi (Spider-Man).
