Op oudejaarsdag Sandinista! op de speakertjes (zojuist komt Up in Heaven (not only here) voorbij) om Zaaf te belonen voor het mooie werk. Dank, kerel.

In 1980 maakte Tom Waits de perfecte bluesy plaat. De wereld had er geen zin meer in. Tom ging daarna over op potjes-en-pannetjesmuziek; ook niet verkeerd. Ik koester echter Heartattack and Vine meer.

Volgens RYM verscheen 'Is This Real' in januari 1980. Maar inmiddels weet ik dat RYM allesbehalve feilloos is.

En die Priest plaat is zo'n beetje de meest overschatte plaat. Niet alleen uit hun oeuvre, maar in de gehele metalgeschiedenis. Allemaal van die stompzinnige midtempo US-metalhoempapameezingers, met als beschamende dieptepunten Living After Midnight en het onsterfelijk belachelijke United . Alleen Rapid Fire en het platgedraaide Breaking The Law zijn goed (en The Rage en Steeler zijn okay), maar wát een onthutsend verschil met hun geniale platen als Sad Wings en Sin After Sin.
British Steel (American Crêpepapier is een betere titel) zou dezelfde reputatie moeten hebben als Point Of Entry, een gedrocht die ik in 1981 ook zeker niet zal nomineren. Daarna komen ze gelukkig weer overtuigend terug.
