Album dat prima in de tijdgeest past, maar in werkelijkheid nogal vooruitstrevend was. Opgenomen in '71/'72 maar door de wispelturigheid van met name Richman, de onderlinge clashes en het overlijden van goede vriend Gram Parsons kwam na een aantal mislukte albumsessies het platencontract ten einde. Wat goed is komt snel. De Ramones kwamen, met dezelfde stijl als hun debuutalbum, overrompelden wat belangrijke mensen, scoorden een contract en namen binnen een week deze plaat op. Deed in de verkoop niet veel, maar de reviews waren zeer positief en natuurlijk werd het album als trendsettend neergezet, in de loop van de tijd.

Toch wel straf dat Joni's Hejira even goed scoort als Blue (ook nr6, 1971). Terwijl dit een van de minder toegankelijke albums is uit haar glorieperiode die eigenlijk hier eindigt.
Leuke lijst tot nu toe met veel overeenkomsten, en veel van wat ik niet heb (Rainbow, Modern Lovers) zou zeker in mijn top 25 zitten.

Nu maar met een flesje suikervrije coke wachten of de trein nog op tijd rijdt.

De nummers schreef hij grotendeels met psycholoog Jacques Levy.
