Ik vind Etta niet echt een girl op een of andere manier

James Brown doet het ook niet voor me

Probeer het nog eens eind jaren '60/begin jaren '70. Dan heeft 'ie wel heel veel moois voor je in petto.

Man??? Genderneutrale muziekliefhebbert! En dijkbewa(a)k(st)er aan de Waddenzee.

Mooie singles. Runaway ken ik vanuit een politieserie uit de late jaren '80 en voelt daarom als jeugdsentiment. Geweldig nummer en tragisch levensverhaal overigens.


Dat vind ik dan wel weer verrassend, want ik ken volgens mij helemaal geen albums van Etta James, maar heb in diverse topics toch wel blijk gegeven van mijn liefde voor girl groups uit de vroege jaren '60. Zo staan er een paar in mijn top 100 aller tijden (zie vanaf hier De top 100 van...) en ik houd nu al 7 jaar wekelijks met terugwerkende kracht een hitlijst van de jaren '60 bij en de grootste hit tot nu toe is er eentje van de Shangri-La's.

Wat doen we eigenlijk in dit hypothetische geval?

Ik ga dan voor de eerste omdat die eerder was, maar worden in dit geval beide singles bij elkaar opgeteld? Want niemand zal deze singles kiezen voor de Kabouterdans of Pommetje Horlepiep.

Ik denk het hypothetische geval van herman te herkennen. Ik vind het antwoord met inachtneming van dat geval lastig te beantwoorden. Op voorhand heeft zaaf enkele restricties gesteld voor wat betreft het land van herkomst van de single. Dat wil ik in het hypothetische geval ook weten.

En ik maar denken Summer Is Over van Dusty Springfield. De link naar Irma snap ik niet zo, maar het nummer staat op mijn shortlist. Net als Breakaway trouwens. 2 nummers die veel bekender zijn in latere coverversies.

Ja, dat is wel lastig bij sommige nummers. I Heard It Through The Grapevine is ook zo'n geval.
Maar als Jackie het zelf niet eerder heeft uitgevoerd, dan is het hier gewoon Irma vind ik.

Mijn lijstje is ook op de bus. 13 keer stond er een dame (of meerdere) achter de microfoon, 5 keer een man (of meerdere) en dan zijn er 2 instrumentale nummers. Niet gek in dit tijdperk vol surfplaatjes, maar een van de 2 heeft toch niets meer surfen te maken al is het verder wel een winderig nummer.

1962 kwam er wel bekaaid vanaf met maar 2 nummers. 1963 had er 7 en 1964 11.

Snap ik, maar ik ben nooit zo van dit soort kunstgrepen (bv. ook niet van 1 song per artiest). Ik ken nou eenmaal niet zo gek veel uit 1962 in vergelijking met de latere jaren. Valt nog een hoop te ontdekken, maar daar kwam ik deze week niet echt aan toe.

De rest is ook stuk voor stuk prima (toevallig een week of 2 terug Blue Velvet weer eens gezien), maar voor mij geen top 99 materiaal. Van Francoise heb ik wel een andere erin.

Verder heb ik bij Francoise gekozen voor de oudere single waarop Tous les garcons de b-kant was.

Beatles' A Hard Day's Night viel er bij mij net buiten. Ik had wel een andere van ze vrij hoog. Misschien komt die nog, alhoewel ik liever de girl groups zie...

Mooi nummer van Otis, maar hij zou nog veel beter gaan maken. Dus niet in mijn lijst.

Machtig nummer van Dusty, een van haar beste. Bij mij dik in de top 10.

Wordt nu wel eens tijd voor een girl group.

Mijn nummer 15, maar wel vanwege de b-kant. Eén van de betere vroege Dylan-nummers.
