Ten opzichte van 2017 eigenlijk maar 13 albums meer bestemd (336 om 323). De jaren '70 zijn dan ook niet mijn voorkeursdecennium. Ten opzichte van de vorige keer winnen vooral Serge Gainsbourg en Fela Kuti, beide artiesten die ik de afgelopen jaren ook nog meer ben gaan waarderen. Daarentegen verliezen de Duitsers wel wat terrein. Verder blijven Bowie en kornuiten wel een constante hier, dat zal wel nooit meer veranderen.

De top-8 is ongewijzigd ten opzichte van de vorige editie. Daaronder vinden we 3 nieuwe binnenkomers, waarvan de derde Eloy (op 30) een re-entry is. De derde Steeleye Span (op 23) is wel nieuw en dat geldt ook voor de cultklassieker van Comus (op 24). Een en ander gaat ten koste van de vierde Camel en van twee van de drie Genesissen (tja, dat waren nou eenmaal de nummers 28-30). Ten slotte vallen de 8 plaatsen stijging van zowel Crime of the Century als Relayer nog op.

De top 30 is vrij arbitrair. Het was ooit een top 20, maar is er geen reden waarom het dit aantal is. Wel denk ik dat dit een soort optimum is tussen een enigszins representatieve uitslag, de mogelijkheid tot het inbrengen van eigenzinnigheid en de kans voor minder populaire albums om ook goed te scoren.

De top 40 komt oorspronkelijk van dit topic: De MuMe variant van de Top 40 van OOR, 1971-2011.

In de geest van dit topic gaat het nog steeds om de top 40. De reden dat ik de nummers 41-50 ook noem, is omdat ik deze meeneem naar het eindspel (met 300+ albums).

Dat het wat vreemd is, ben ik overigens volledig met je eens.

Ja, ik kom toch weer uit op Wish You Were Here op de eerste plaats, vooral vanwege dat in tweeën geknipte nummer dat we toch eigenlijk een moderne symfonie kunnen noemen, 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond'.

Er staan een paar live platen in, maar dat zouden er meer kunnen zijn. Terugkijkend merk ik dat ik van een aantal artiesten eerst een live plaat had en daarna pas het, toen vaak iets tegenvallende studiomateriaal. 'David Live', 'Get Your Ya-Ya's Out', 'Yessongs'. Die heb ik er, ook om het mijzelf iets makkelijker te maken om tot 30 te komen, weggelaten. Dat is iets wat veranderd is. Nu ik bijna alles wat ik zou hebben willen zien optreden, ook gezien heb in de afgelopen decennia, is een liveplaat van status veranderd. De opwinding ben ik deelgenoot in geweest. Dat maakt het gewoon anders.

Nog iets dat ik heb opgemerkt. Ik stond op het punt om alle Stones platen er uit te kieperen. Dat was toch echt mijn 70s band en daarna kwam de rest. Inmiddels is de band totaal overvleugeld door mijn ware 70s band, Pink Floyd. Ik denk ook niet echt dat hier veel aan veranderd als ik mijn beste platen ooit mag uitzoeken.

Er staat vrijwel niets Nederlands in. Gruppo Sportivo wel, want deze plaat maakt me altijd weer vrolijk als ik hem speel. Geen Earring, dat blijft een singles band in mijn ogen, maar wel wat voor een. Ik ben bezig met Earth & Fire, Kayak en Focus te ontdekken op tweedehands LP, maar tot nu heb ik niet het idee dat deze platen een kans maken op deze lijst. Maar wie weet.

Als geheel zijn de 70s een ijzersterk LP decennium. Veel meer dan de 60s. Dat is voor een groot deel een singles met opvullers c.q. covers tijdperk tot aan 'Rubber Soul'. Die plaat legde voor iedereen de lat ineens heel hoog en diverse bands wisten die horde te nemen en popmuziek tot een kunstuiting te maken. Ik hoef alleen maar hierboven te kijken hoe dat vervolgens doorwerkte. Hieronder staan nog zoveel geweldige LPs.... Ik zal de laatste twee afvallers toch even noemen: 'Band Of Gypsys' van Jimi Hendrix en 'The Yes Album' van Yes.

De volgende 80 (hoe net niet toepasselijk) gebruikers kwam ik tegen bij een rondje langs de 70s-velden en daar zitten ongetwijfeld nog wat mensen tussen die het ook leuk vinden een lijst aan te leveren. De precieze 'regels' staan in de openingspost, maar in het kort komt het erop neer om een lijst van de jouw 70s-favorieten aan te leveren (min. top 10, max. top 30).
