Aii, die had toch wel wat hoger mogen staan. Wordt toch wat onderschat op MuMe in contrast met de (natuurlijk kortere) platen Born to Run en Darkness. Gelukkig wel gewoon dik top 10. In jaren echt gegroeid tot één van mijn all-time favorieten.

Een rivier met een versnelling, wat ben je toch een poeet, Martin!

Boy is bij mij ook een 3,5-je dat de lijst niet haalde, ofschoon ik in dit niet bijzonder vette jaar rijkelijk uit mijn 3,5*-vaatje heb moeten tappen om de top-20 vol te krijgen. Van Bruce Springsteen moest ik lang weinig hebben, maar dat is inmiddels aan het bijtrekken. Het goedkope boxje met zijn eerste zeven albums blijkt een praktisch introductiedocument. Born to Run, Darkness on the Edge of Town en Born in the USA maken vooralsnog de beste indruk. The River zit vooralsnog niet in de bovenmoot.

En ook ome Bruce kwam pas later op stoom, maar ja, die stoom houdt bij hem meestal wel aan…

Orenschijnlijk vrijwel haaks op het sobere Nebraska, pakt Springsteen hier uit met enigszins mainstream Amerikaanse rock 'n roll met wat vleugjes elektronica. Toch is het verschil met de voorganger volgens Springsteen niet zo groot; vooral kant A bevat soortgelijke karakters en verhalen, alleen in een rockband setting.

Toch bevat het album in die zin een disharmonie: de politieke teksten werden overstemd door vorm (pop-georiënteerde rock) en verpakking: de hoes laat een gespierde rocker zien met een Amerikaanse vlag op de achtergrond, wat een ander beeld geeft dan Springsteen bedoeld zal hebben.
Sommige slimmeriken zagen weliswaar een ander beeld in de bips van Springsteen en vroegen hem of hij eigenlijk op de vlag pist.
Dit ontkende hij: "That was unintentional. We took a lot of different types of pictures, and in the end, the picture of my ass looked better than the picture of my face, that's what went on the cover. I didn't have any secret message. I don't do that very much."

Ojee… en probeer hier nog maar beleefd te blijven. Hier bleef het niet langer bij onvriendelijke woorden in de relatie tussen zaaf en Bruce, hier ging ie met stoelen smijten.

Ja, 1984 is een fantastisch jaar, maar de toplijst lijkt wel uit een parallel universum te komen. Lloyd Cole? Vervelend, glad album. Cocteau Twins? Helemaal de horror. Born in the USA is dan wel vrij goed, maar er waren zeker wel twintig betere dit jaar. Oftewel: 0 uit 5 tot dusver.Bruce was het onderzoek over gezichtsherkenning bij apen ver vooruit

Glad of commercieel ,zal allemaal wel
Zeker..van totaal andere orde/ karakter dan voorganger Nebraska die ik ook op 4,5* heb staan
Born In The U.S.A ....is gewoon wat toegankelijker SO WHAT !...... blijft voor mij en vele andere muziekfielen,toch een van de beste albums van Springsteen

Lloyd Cole vervelend..Cocteau Twins de horror..Born in the Usa wel vrij goed

Daar kijk ik van op, Luigi, dat ik het eens een keer met een uitspraak van je eens ben. ?

Geloof dat we geen Hüsker Dü, Replacements of Minutemen gaan krijgen, jammer, dat zijn toch wel een beetje de klassiekers voor mij van dat jaar. Op zich niet erg dat er vooral meer Brits in deze lijst staat, maar dat Born in the U.S.A. (en niet de eerder genoemde drie) de Amerikaanse klassieker is, is toch wel erg jammer.

Bij mij wel. Heerlijk, nu kan er nog veel meer gegrasduind worden!

De top-25 met de 'makkelijke' puntentelling laat overigens andermaal weinig verschil zien, al is de veel lagere positie van Talk Talk wel opmerkelijk:
