. de ontdekkingen van Boudewijn de groot en Frank Zappa zetten zich ook dit decenium door. Met Transistion weet Coltrane toch nog een Jazz album hoog in de lijst te krijgen. Maar de Jazz is hier duidelijk niet opgewassen tegen de concurrentie. Uiteindelijk toch 12 nieuwe aanwinsten

Mijn jaren '70-stemmen zijn op MusicMeter echt compleet niet up to date, dus ik heb niet zo snel een top 30 bij elkaar waar ik tevreden over ben en ik ben wel even klaar met lijstjes maken.
Die Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes-plaat wilde ik wel even extra liefde geven (ook extra liefde voor N°2 (1970) en Âme Debout (1971)), want die zag ik volgens mij alleen bij Koen langskomen. Andere (onderbelichte) parels die ik hier niet veel tegenkom, maar absoluut een vermelding verdienen:

Nu ik ook weer in de bewoonde wereld ben ga ik me later vandaag even buigen over de uitslag. Eventuele liefhebbers hebben nog in ieder geval tot 18u om een lijst in te leveren. Wanneer je later bent kan ik niet voor eventuele schade in staan.

Het zal vast niet als een verrassing komen als ik zeg dat dit de eerste van een reeks Neil Young-platen is. Wat wel verrassend is, is de tussenstand. Zelfs halverwege stond Neil Young met deze nog in de top 10. Daarna zakte Tonight’s the Night helemaal weg naar plek 35. Een positie waar hij vooraf ongetwijfeld voor getekend zou hebben, want geloof het of niet, maar dat is pas de eerste keer dat deze bij de bovenste 50 te vinden is.

Oei, dat is toch wel een pijnlijk klapper. AL sinds 2014 is Kate Bush aan het dalen. Hoewel het me ook verbaast dat ze het ooit zelfs een keer slechter heeft gedaan dan dit jaar.

Sinds de eerste editie is deze bijna alleen maar aan het stijgen. En zo ver weg is die top 10 echt niet!

Moeizame start, maar met een redelijk slot toch nog op een relatief mooie positie gekomen. Wel vier plekken daling. De voorganger (140) en opvolgers Houses of the Holy (439) en Physical Graffiti (420) volgen op geruime afstand. Vooral voor de laatstgenoemde is dat toch wel zeer opmerkelijk.

De trouwe fans hadden het al opgemerkt: Bryter Layter ontbrak tot nu toe. En de fans moet ik teleurstellen, dat is niet omdat deze weergaloos gescoord heeft. Nee, slechts plek 70 en dat terwijl die de afgelopen vier edities bij de bovenste 30 stond. Om dat verlies te compenseren is Pink Moon in ieder geval één plekje gestegen.

Nu is dit patroon niet heel opvallend voor Rumours. Op de een of andere manier komt deze altijd pas laat op stoom. Ook dit jaar was het tot de laatste tussenstand belabberd te noemen voor de oud-winnaar van 2015. Maar dat uiteindelijk zelfs de top 10 niet gehaald werd mag met recht wel een verrassing genoemd worden. Ik vraag me af of er oud-winnaars zijn die buiten de top 10 beland zijn.

Ik vraag me af of er oud-winnaars zijn die buiten de top 10 beland zijn.
Het antwoord hierop is overigens: ja. In the Wee Small Hours, oud-winnaar van de eerste 50s-editie werd 13e en 11e in 2015, resp. 2017.Verder alleen The Queen is Dead die negende werd in 2011 en vervolgens won in 2014.
