Ik houd het op een top40. Zit veel mooi materiaal tussen. De kritiek op het selectiebeleid snap ik trouwens niet. Je hebt die vorige decennia-edities toch niet voor niets gespeeld. De kansloze liggen er nu toch al uit.

Ja, 's nachts ga ik de uitslag niet doen, natuurlijk.
Uiteindelijk toch 53 deelnemers. Met dank aan inquestos hoef ik niet meer te rekenen!
Slechts 2 platen werden nooit genoemd:

The Stooges - The Stooges
Waarbij het toch wel zeer opvallend is dat niemand The Stooges een plekje gunde.

50. Pink Floyd - The Wall (1979) (564 punten) 11x genoemd, #27 in de voorronde
De Pink Floyd-liefhebbers hadden bij de 70s een mooie editie met de bovenste 2 plekken bezet en een nieuwe notering. The Wall blijkt ook all-round erg geliefd, want hij mag deze top 50 openen. Ieder album bij de beste 50 werd minimaal 11 keer genoemd.
49. Marillion - Marbles (2004) (571 punten) 11x genoemd, #11 in de voorronde
Met een wat kleiner deelnemersaantal is de kans op meerdere noteringen van één artiest natuurlijk groter. Zeker in het geval van Marillion. Het is ook zeker niet de laatste keer dat we ze tegen zullen komen.
48. The Clash - London Calling (1979) (572 punten) 14x genoemd, #17 in de voorronde
Slechtst 17e in de voorronde (evenals de nummer 47), maar blijkbaar erg geliefd bij dit deelnemersveld. Scoorde overigens maar 2 keer top 10 (1 maal 8 en 1 maal plek 10).
47. Nas - Illmatic (1994) (574 punten) 11x genoemd, #17 in de voorronde
Wu-Tang Clan eindigt net buiten de top 50 (52e). Nas er juist net binnen. Zoals verwacht vinden we Atmosphere nog een aantal plekken hoger.
46. Charles Mingus - The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady (1963) (578 punten) 11x genoemd, #9 in de voorronde
De eerste en ook gelijk laatste jazz-plaat in deze lijst. Ten minste, van de voorrondes. A Love Supreme mocht ook in de top 100, maar voor de rest waren ze toch allemaal vrij kansloos.
Reviews komen pas hoger in de lijst.

Wat een spanning. Nas er gelukkig in. Jammer van Wu-Tang Clan. Want die zijn nuthin' ta fuck wit. Verder had ik verwacht dat The Clash juist veel hoger zou komen (niet dat ik dat per se graag wilde), maar kennelijk is dit juist hoger dan verwacht. Verder: Charles Mingus

45. Fleetwood Mac - Rumours (1977) (580 punten) 14x genoemd, #4 in de voorronde
Vorig jaar eindigde Rumours ook al zo laag. Een tijdloos album dat toch wel erg decenniumgebonden blijkt te zijn. Wat mij betreft erg opmerkelijk.
44. Marillion - Brave (1994) (583 punten) 11x genoemd, #14 in de voorronde
En daar is nummer 2 alweer. Het andere geliefde conceptalbum met Marillion 2.0 eindigt, net zoals in de Top 250 net even wat hoger.
43. Pixies - Doolittle (1989) (587 punten) 14x genoemd, #5 in de voorronde
Vorig jaar 23e en daarmee één van de beste 80s-albums. Dit jaar liep het toch wat stroef met de Pixies. Surfer Rosa eindigt zelfs buiten de beste 200.
42. Nirvana - Nevermind (1991) (597 punten) 12x genoemd, #6 in de voorronde
5 van de 12 keer dat hij genoemd werd, kwam hij in de top 10. Dat lukte niet veel platen. Toch moeten het voor de rest relatief lage noteringen geweest zijn. Dit jaar wederom geen In Utero en geen MTV Unplugged.
41. Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden (1988) (598 punten) 14x genoemd, #14 in de voorronde
Gezien het feit dat Spirit of Eden vorig jaar op de 111e plek belandde, is het dit jaar mooi om te zien dat er dit jaar wel een rechtmatige positie voor deze invloedrijke plaat is.
Vorig jaar eindigde Rumours ook al zo laag. Een tijdloos album dat toch wel erg decenniumgebonden blijkt te zijn. Wat mij betreft erg opmerkelijk.

40. The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) (603 punten) 15x genoemd, #19 in de voorronde
Sgt. Pepper’s bewijs zijn status hier. Er zijn maar 2 albums die lager eindigden in de voorrondes en die de top 50 haalden. Ik zal ook maar alvast verklappen dat er nog één Beatles-album langskomt.
39. Talking Heads - Remain in Light (1980) (605 punten) 12x genoemd, #6 in de voorronde
Net zoals vorig jaar nooit echt bovenin meegedaan, maar uiteindelijk vrij makkelijk de top 50 in. Dit leek mij toch wel een echte favoriet, maar zelfs op het forum zijn de meningen verdeeld over dit (voor mij) moeilijk te doorgronden meesterwerk.
38. Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life (1976) (606 punten) 13x genoemd, #16 in de voorronde
2 maal op nummer 1 (en dat gebeurde maar met 10 albums!) en een plek op nummer 2 (en dat lukte maar 6 albums). Toch was het bij lange na niet genoeg om eeuwige vijand Marvin te verslaan.
37. Miles Davis - Kind of Blue (1959) (610 punten) 16x genoemd, #1 in de voorronde
Want de hoogste jazzplaat is, uiteraard zou je bijna zeggen, Kind of Blue. Vorig jaar op het laatste moment nog toegevoegd en destijds rond plek 70 geëindigd. De winnaar van de 50s-editie van vorig jaar krijgt dit jaar de ereplek die het verdiend.
36. Marillion - Misplaced Childhood (1985) (617 punten) 11x genoemd, #7 in de voorronde
En is men dan toch nog erg verdeeld over welk album nou echt het beste is, dat men elkaar alsnog in de weg zit? Het bekendste werk van Marillion leek na een uitstekende prestatie tijdens de 80s-editie op een hoge positie af te stevenen, maar eigenlijk stond Misplaced Childhood halverwege nog achter Marbles en Brave.

35. Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights (2002) (623 punten) 15x genoemd, #9 in de voorronde
Twee maal op nummer 1, zoals gezegd een mooie prestatie. Toch was de rest wat minder lovend over deze alternatieve rockplaat.
34. King Crimson - Red (1974) (630 punten) 14x genoemd, #35 in de voorronde
De grote winnaar is Red. Bijna genoeg punten om het onbereikbaar geachte In The Court… te passeren!
33. R.E.M. - Automatic for the People (1992) (639 punten) 19x genoemd, #4 in de voorronde
Maar liefst 19 keer genoemd (waarvan één keer een plek 2) en toch 33e eindigen. Ter illustratie, de nummer 11 is ook 19 keer genoemd, de nummer 12 zelfs 17 keer. Het scheelt ruim 300 punten.
32. King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King (1969) (641 punten) 17x genoemd, #3 in de voorronde
Slechts eenmaal top 10, op plek 9. En toch nog op 32. Kwestie van vaak (17 keer) genoemd worden.
31. Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane over the Sea (1998) (646 punten) 12x genoemd, #12 in de voorronde
2 maal op nummer 1 en 2 maal op nummer 2. En toch slechts op 31. Kwestie van weinig (12 keer) genoemd worden.
Tot zover de ietwat saaie droge tekst. Vanaf nu weer leuke quotes en plaatjes.
Twee maal op nummer 1, zoals gezegd een mooie prestatie. Toch was de rest wat minder lovend over deze alternatieve rockplaat.

Geen idee of de meeste deelnemers het "1-album-per-artiest-principe" toepassen, maar mocht dat het geval zijn, dan zouden UP en CL elkaar weleens in de weg gezeten kunnen hebben in deze editie.
